Android 2.2 Froyo source code available today
It's still not hitting the bulk of Nexus Ones as far as we can tell, but for what it's worth, Google has unleashed the source code for Android 2.2 today, which is a solid sign that the code's been bulletproofed to the Open Handset Alliance's satisfaction and is ready for deployment across a number of phones from different manufacturers and carriers. It's still ultimately up to a bunch of gatekeepers in suits to decide when various models will get the upgrade, but this is basically zero day -- so let the countdown begin.

CyanogenMod in 3...2....1....
@Peter F
+1, as long as he removes that shit-ass aftermarket music app in 508+.
@Peter F
Woooo! 2.2! On my Hero please? With unicorns? rofl
Nexus One owners, you lucky dogs.
@Peter F
I give them 14 hours and they'll have the Nexus1 and Evo sporting this
@Mike10010100
My Nexus One still doesn't have the update I'm on 2.1 still.
@massalo
Well yeah, but you could always flash the new ROM. It's available for Nexus One. 2.2 isn't even possible right now for the Hero :(
@Level 5
I haven't used CyanogenMod since Froyo came out, but I loved 5.0.6-Test1 I had before then! I ran the phone for nearly a month without rebooting!
Then I flashed the first Froyo leak without clearing my phone. Now it reboots randomly at least once a day and I'm too lazy to format it.
@Peter F doesnt cgen need busybox? can you tell me what busybox is, im to lazy to figure it out (using stock rooted 2.1 with 1.2 ghz kernal)
Here's hoping someone can port it to some Windows Mobile phones *cough*TP2*cough*
@Peter F Im more excited about soon having 720p on my nexus one in froyo, maybe the added speed will up the 20 fps cap too. :)
@Peter F
Can't wait! Just a matter of time until my G1 is running Froyo!
@massalo 2.2 was never officially released.
As soon as 2.2 drops, game over!!! I can't see Apple doing anything to top Froyo, the ability to push content from the web to a device running Froyo, is a major win-win for Google, among other great features. Don't get me wrong, there are elements of 2.1 that are superior to OS4.
@Peter F
Froyo! Froyo! Froyo! Froyo!
>(:[00=
@Mike10010100
With flash on 2.2, it does come with unicorns...sorta:

@Level 5
Shit ass? It's a hell of a lot nicer than the stock music app which is replaces and noone is holding a gun to your head and stopping you from installing the music app you like so go away please.
That looks like shit.
@BHFoster
Hmm, it tastes rather sweet to me...
@BHFoster
So does your face
:D
@BHFoster
um, let me guess you're an iPhony user?
@commenter7
A mobile commodore, nice.. real slick :)
@BHFoster I was going to write a witty, well thought-out response to your feeble minded comment, but then realized it would be nearly impossible to steer anyone off their one-track Apple mind. "Think Different" is a slogan that I think no longer applies.
@liquidkernel
http://www.nooooooooooooooo.com/
@BHFoster to bad you cant use that on your iphone eh? it uses flash.
@huskie fluff
No but I can tether it to my Macbook Pro :)
@liquidkernel
you are so right! Thats why google RULZ NOW!!
@BHFoster
The sad thing is your ignorant comment is based on a shot of the screen when its stock and hasn't been customized. The endless ways you can change how things look is great, from backgrounds to live wallpapers, basic to custom icons and widgets, a couple screen to many with shortcuts pinned to the bottom.
But hey, maybe you prefer trolling due to a preference for Apple's plain wall of icons. Oh wait, you guy JUST got the ability to use wallpapers :P
@BHFoster Thank you, I had no idea. You must be an expert.
@huskie fluff
But I can on my Nexus One with Froyo
@rstoplabe14 amen brotha. bra. bomine. broseph. ma homie.
eww
@BHFoster You're such a simple minded troll, stick to your iPhollow.
So I can expect HTC to get around to this in about 6 months,
@Colours
MY EVO NEEDS IT!!
@Colours ... by simply releasing new models with 2.2 instead of updating the previous models.
@Colours I know what you mean. HTC will take a year and a day to update Sense to work with it. I like Sense, but I might just go AOSP if it means I can't have 2.2 in a timely fashion. Hopefully the brilliant minds at xda-dev can whip something up.
@Colours
Anyone know of any news on the HTC HD2 front? Have they got Android working on that thing yet?
@Colours I get the feeling that updates are likely to be quicker this time. Many of the tentacles that Sense needed to implant in the OS lose their necessity with the advent of Froyo e.g. USB tethering, data backup etc. Now that Google have done so much back end foundation work, things do not need to be as complicated for future updates. If Google do a reasonable job on the UI with Gingerbread then many of the handset front ends may well become themes and widget packs provided free for their customers rather than being too obtrusive. We will see.
@joshroseca Ill bet the devs at SDX have froyo on the Moment before the EVO, or maybe around the same time.
Kewl!
i feel as if one of my children was just reborned
Yeeeeeeaaaaaaa
I'll give.5 hours before a Froyofail Rom is released for my evo and even shorter time for other phones
oh gees, someone want to compile it for n1 yet? :)
YUMMY!!!
I think I just froyo'd on my shorts
@JavaJunkieInLV rofl
@JavaJunkieInLV
I sharted i was that excited :(
(it rhymes which is cool.. but still :(...)
I've had the leaked version on my Droid for awhile, and it's great. Can't wait for this to work its way into my favorite ROM (Bugless Beast FTW)
@Addyct i never did get froyo to work on mmy droid, i think it was mainly due to the fact i used the sbf sp recoery install method, just put me in a boot loop?
@huskie fluff Yeah, I just went ezmode method and started using ROM Manager. Koush puts a ton of work into that thing, It's great.
