Samsung Behold II finally gets Android 1.6 update
Yes, yes, we know you'd rather get Eclair or Froyo -- but sometimes you've got to be happy with what you've got, and this is one of those times. As far as we can tell, Samsung hasn't budged on its commitment to sunset the Behold II's upgrade path with Donut, but at least 1.6 is finally trickling into the hands of owners this week via a rolling over-the-air update that should wrap up on the 25th. There are a few bug fixes in the mix, too -- so unless you've got a rooted Behold II running 2.2 already, you probably want in on this action. Or... you know, dump this inadequately-supported piece for something running 2.1 out of the box.

While I'm at it, I might as well say it... boy am I glad I waited for and bought a Nexus One. I honestly feel bad for people who buy phones that seem to have no support behind them.
I have thought of getting the Galaxy S.
But Samsung's history of problematic phones in the past (pre-smartphone era) have made me very warily of them.
And now they can't be assed to update their phones on a timely basis.
HTC Desire it is.
PS: would love to get the Motorola Droid 2, but it's probably going to take months to get to my country, and might end up exclusive to some mobile operator I don't use.
Samsung: "Behold mortals! The 1.6 update is here!"
Mortals: "a bit too late, Sucksung, we are already using EVOs and iPhones"
As I say, spoon has a value during dinner, after dinner - it's useless.
Dear Samsung. I used to like you. Please stop being idiots k thx :D
What a complete POS phone...Thank god my brother ditched it for a Nexus One.
not a bad phone, lame samsung cube skin, but nonetheless not bad.
if you want android 2.1 do what the rest of the world did. root and flash a rom you lazy lazy chumps.
@dudeguylikesandroid I would love to....64-bit systems don't play nice.
This kind of crap makes android look bad. No wonder so many buy iphones. You may be in Steve's walled garden but at least you don't buy a new phone and get left in the dust 6 months later.
@theinternetstom
No, it just makes Samsung look bad.
Hey people, this phone was ROOTED long ago and we have had 1.6 ROMS for a long time, but we CAN'T get 2.1 so stop saying we can.
Also, anyone without root can use a number of home replacement apps so they never even see the Touchwiz UI.
behold owners should consider themselves extremely lucky to get 1.6. i, galaxy i7500 user, will most probably never see this update. btw if i ever change my phone, you can bet it’s not going to be a samsung
@pikacz I don't know if you should consider yourself lucky, but Samsung has released an official 1.6 update for the Galaxy in January this year.
In any case, you'd be crazy to use the official update when you have the excellent Galaxo roms.

BTW, those guys are now furiously working on the 2.1 update. They were getting held up on the hardware 3d drivers, but that seems to have been taken care of now, so the outlook is positive.
Hopefully, after 2.1 is working properly, the migration to 2.2 won't be too difficult.
@zebedeu are you sure that that january update was official? cause it must be installed by odin and the phone must be rooted, that doesn't sound so official to me ;) anyways, i'll wait until drakaz cooks up 2.2, no rush
@pikacz Not sure :-)
I thought it was official, at least in some countries in Europe (Germany, Italy, UK, etc.) but I stopped using the official channels to update since time immemorial, so I can't really tell :-)
In any case, the Galaxo build is working well for me, so you might want to try that while we wait for 2.1 / 2.2 (the camera is still broken in the upcoming builds, and they don't know if it will ever work -- probably yes, but it could take a while).
@zebedeu i'd say it's 90% official, because it originated from samsung servers, but is not available through nps, at least not in my country it isn't (poland). anyway, after over half a year on 1.5 i decided to install at least 1.6. i found an excellent guide, just google "samsung i7500 android 1.6 update step by step" and select the first result. i'll stick with it until drakaz cooks up 2.2 ;)
This is why I don't understand people who are excited for the Galaxy S. Yes the specs are nice and blah, blah, blah. I hope you're really happy with 2.1, because odds are you stuck with it until you get a new phone.
I am one of the duped consumers that were swayed by Samsungs shady tactics. NEVER AGAIN SAMSUNG.
I did get the update, and its nice, but there is still a HUGE bitter taste in my mouth after the PROMISE of 2.1 that was taken away.
Im seriously considering breaking my T-mo contract, getting an Evo 4G, and destroying this POS phone on youtube
Today is the last day the update is being rolled out....still no update.
This is a rumor or something because as you can see its the 27th and my phone is still 1.5...
