Twitter for iPhone now ready for iOS 4 multitasking
The official Twitter app is keeping up with the times by rolling out iOS 4 support in its latest build. With the program now able to run in the background, you'll finally be able to send tweets while switching in and out of other applications. It also means you won't have to relaunch the app every time you want to check up on the latest happenings, it'll just keep your place like a good and loyal piece of software. Retina Display-friendly graphics are also part of the new package, along with "more secure" tweeting, if you ever felt insecure about the integrity of you shorthand missives. All it's missing now are the millions of "sent from my iPhone 4" messages, a gap we're sure you'll be filling pronto.

Too bad my Home button is semi-functional..
iOS4 is a pain in the (place swearword here)
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt -.-
@uckApple works fine for me
@uckApple Least you get it -.- I mainly want the Folders function & the extra free RAM. I know I could JB for it, but I just never liked JBing my iPod touch 1G. No practical use for me.
@Teslanaut
Folders is a waste of time if you have more than 12 apps per category..
The folders look silly and out of place when you have more than 3 per page.
Your best bet is to just stick to OS3 (3.1.2 or w.e) and use categories, it blows Apples folders out of the water, only downside is you cant organize apps as easily in Categories.
And when I said iOS4s multitasking is a pain, that would only be for those with a dis functional home button, it isnt software related at all.
@uckApple totally feeling you man. my froyo nexus one can't view flash... because the screen is cracked.
@uckApple
Sorry to highjack you post, but I am unable to read the entire review of the iPhone 4. It stops loading at the vid through New York ( at the bottom of firefox the only thing it says is :read cdn-thumbs.viddler.com) Is anyone else having this problem?
@uckApple Erm, "iOS4 is a pain in the shit" really doesn't make sense...
@daytripper Same problem in Opera 10.53. Had to run Chrome to read it
@engadget Stop calling it multitasking ffs!
@uckApple You complain a lot about Apple, for someone that actually buys their products.
@Teslanaut get an android, they have supported folders since what 2008?
@Fleksnes i posted this in the 30 fps unlock for the evo
@hell hound primitive multi tasking i think not. i prefer it over apples *save state of program* multitasking what happens when your making a call and your gps program starts talking and you dont hear it? you gota like end your call, then go to the app, and since your iphones now doing 2 things, you have to wait for the app to load, and relocate your position on the programs gri... oh wait you just missed your turn. looks like your gonna have to find a uturn there pal.
@huskie fluff Sure, I'll get an Android. Any Android devices like the iPod touch that DON'T require a contract and don't suck? Don't tell me to get that Archos POS because it's just crap. I've seen some Android devices that MIGHT'VE come out but have become vaporeware. I really want an Android device too. Problem is, there are none that DON'T require a contract. See my dilemma?
@Teslanaut Well that's because the iPod Touch is a glorified regular iPod that Apple was smart enough to include in it's iOS program before there was such a thing (I am not bashing here btw, even though I do own an Android phone I love my iPod Touch for music and have even developed professional for the iPhone 2.x/3.x OS).
The nice thing about the open-sourceness (I know that's not a real word =p) of the Android platform is that it very well could be turned into a rocking iPod Touch-like device, however it needs to reach a mature/solid state which probably won't come until next year.
@uckApple first of all categories is nothing that great. It's your choice to use it or not but I personally think that folders is much better. Yes it is not the most functional feature when you have a lot of things in a folder but you can always split things. Plus folders actually give me quick access to things like phone messages skype and SIP client right from the dock on any screen. You cannot do that with anything else (without using cydia apps). Yes iOS4 is a bit glitchy on 3GS and there are some random things that happen every once in a while but it should get better as more and more apps start using the new APIs.
Anyway this thread is about Facebook for iOS 4 and it's nice that they finally updated it. The screen also no longer gets corrupted when you pull the task manager up.
@grouver oops too many open tabs … sorry
iOS4 is coming along nicely! Updating now.
@ChazClout
i just updated my android app to support 2.2.....
how come i don't get a post dedicated to it?
:(
@justinisyoung
Is it used by millions of people?
@Apple Rocks HTC Sucks
You think your clever and you think your getting on peoples nerves, but the truth is, people see you as a pathetic kid with too much time on his hands, and you will be banned in just a matter of days.
Now it is your turn, Engadget. You are a tech blog. Having your own app not up to date is unacceptable.
@nwndarkness You know the iPhone 4 isn't even out yet, right? So technically we're not up to (a future) date.
@nwndarkness
Yep... Oh well.
@Vlad Savov
iOS 4 has been officially out for almost 3 days. Engadget has had the RC for around a month.
When I want to app switch out of engadget, when I come back, the app restarts. Pathetic.
@Vlad Savov
iOS4 is out
@Vlad Savov
He isnt talking about iPhone 4..
iOS4 has been out for a while, and that is the firmware that allows multitasking.. lol wow.
Is it too hard to do? jeeze
@nwndarkness I'm using it to. It's dissapointing. There are already 80 bugs and they haven't updated it since the app came out.
@Vlad Savov
Yeah, but iOS 4 IS..
@nwndarkness
Yes, please update for iOS4 engadget, and also please change your icon since we no longer have black backgrounds.
@nwndarkness
Actually it is because they're a BLOG and not a DEVELOPER. Who gives a crap, use the website.
@nwndarkness
Why not just use the browser? It provides the full web experience after all.
@tusing
Seconding this! It's embarassing to see so many bugs on this program. Please fix this.
@nwndarkness
It'd be nice if Engadget got the update, but in fairness, their app is already incredibly quick to load and update the stories. Startup takes maybe 3-5 seconds. No big deal. Sure you may have to reopen a story depending on your reading habits, but compare Engadget to All Things Digital. THAT app is an embarrassment. On a good day, it takes 30+ seconds to refresh the stories. So bad that I simply don't launch it anymore.
This is great news for people that have the app! I dont twitter but iOS4 is sweet!
Twitter 1 Facebook 0
Engaget should seriously start a new subsite called "AAPL". So we would have "Classic", Mobile, HD, Alt and AAPL.
Fair enough, iPhone launch and review could be published on Engadget Classic, but please! Twitter for iPhone now supports multitasking?
Please, Engadget. Start a subsection for Apple news - it will please the apple devoted, and it sure as heck will make it easier to file through the piles of apple related 'news' for those of us more interested in a slightly broader range of information.
@higherdestiny
Here's a better idea: Use the exclude url that Engadget already set up for whiny babies like you.
http://www.engadget.com/exclude/apple
Use it and STFU.
@higherdestiny agreed.. I honestly couldnt care less about apples garbage and 2 out of 3 posts on here are apple related..
@Jack
Thanks for your kind and considerate comment.
If you actually read my post closely, you would see that I'm actually not wanting to exclude all Apple news. I want to know about new iPhone launches, reviews and news that would be considered noteworthy to the general tech enthusiast public.
The reason I suggested a dedicated AAPL subsection is so more detailed news such as this particular story could be directed to a section of the website where dedicated apple users could easily source the information, freeing up the main engadget classic site for a wider spread of news.
I don't think I would be alone in what I believe to be a very reasonable request.
@higherdestiny I agree with you...even a GOOG or ANDRD section...for apps and other general OS issues...I don't think Engadget mobile should be cluttered with minor app updates for Google Maps for Android or Twitter for iPhone...
sent from an open-minded "Fandroid"
@higherdestiny @AbsoluteDesignz You can already do this.
http://www.engadget.com/tag/google
http://www.engadget.com/tag/android
http://www.engadget.com/tag/apple
@Thomas Ricker
See, but he wants a way to simply exclude all the extraneous fluff. It's great that you can get a dedicated Apple or Google stream, but he's talking about things like "Apple's boxes change!". Those can be ONLY relegated to the Apple channel.
I love reading about hardware teardowns, unboxing, reviews, sotfware upgrades, etc. But seriously? Twitter now supports multitasking? Apple changes their boxes?? I love the new iPhone, but really...
@Jack
Exclude does NOT work in the App of engadget. Also the OP (and so do I) doesn´t want to filter out all Apple related news... only this kind of non-news.
PS: Welcome to 2004 Apple users.
@higherdestiny Oh stop your whining! And go $h!+ in your hand!
@Mike10010100
Well I sure as heck wanted to know when these apps get updated API's. Thanks Endgadget, keep up the good work.
@thegooddoctor so why did u read it, and spend the time to comment if u hate it so much?
@Mike10010100 We can't even file a non fanboy based complaint without stupid responses. I love reading about all hardware and new phones etc. But come on with the new boxes and slightly updated Google maps or whatever. Plus I think dedicated streams for both apple and android would do wonders. iOS4 update? Engadget Mobile. Twitter updates twitter app? Engadget APPL.
Tell me how that is a bad or unreasonable idea.
@Bootman340
So you could visit the dedicated Apple stream, where they would update everyone on little things like this. The rest of us would be over on the main Engadget stream where iPhone unboxings, teardowns, etc. would take place.
That picture looks awfully familiar.
*pushes menu button on evo. Oh that's where I've seen it *
@DefPoet
Lol
iOS4 is just getting better and better!
