The official Twitter app is
keeping up with the times by rolling out iOS 4 support in its latest build. With the program now able to run in the background, you'll finally be able to send tweets while switching in and out of other applications. It also means you won't have to relaunch the app every time you want to check up on the latest happenings, it'll just keep your place like a good and loyal piece of software. Retina Display-friendly graphics are also part of the new package, along with "more secure" tweeting, if you ever felt insecure about the integrity of you shorthand missives. All it's missing now are the millions of "sent from my iPhone 4" messages, a gap we're sure you'll be filling
pronto.
So are we going to see a new post every time "x app now has multitasking" now?
@einhanderkiller
exactly my thoughts. (sorry I did not notice your comment before posting similar comment of mine)
are we going to see a post for every App update in the Apple App Store?
Are we going to get a new story for every app that multitasks? lol wait
fast app switching is one of the best things about iOS4 from a user perspective. a nice WebOS feature-jack.
NOW YOUR TURN ENGADGET, UPDATE YOUR APP! Add that backgrounding API so when I switch in and out I can keep my place on the article I'm reading. Thank you kindly
As you were Engadget, I for one appreciate the heads up as literally none of my third party apps are multitask compatible yet. Ignore the haters, embrace the lovers!
Come on now kiddies,It's not hard to scroll past a story you don't want to read, grow up!
Has the ability to periodically grab tweets in the background been added? From the descriptions of the available background services it didn't seem like this would be possible without using some server to push notifications on your behalf.
@nermell
Nope, only "send while closing" and "fast app switching." There is no way to implement any background checking (other than the horrendous kludge that is push notifications).
Yes, your turn engaget! Hurry up!!
Update your app
I never like to bite the hand that feeds but come on, Twitter app? It pretty much multitasked before the update just a little slower. Maybe you should have covered the TomTom update to show true use of background navigation services, because multitasking with the tomtom app is a spectacle that has to be seen! Or even review peggle to show game freezing in multitasking. Also hoping for an engadget update soon. moan moan moan...
/\ engadgets app does need updating...
Yep, would also love to seethe Engadget app updated to support multitasking....a refresh button on the main page would be nice too!
How is the most obvious update in the world news here on a site like this? -.- Are you gonna report on every single app that gets this??
Enough with the iOS4 App updates. Nobody cares that you can now app switch with your Fart app so you can open your Twitter app, just to app switch to your Fart app to continue to annoy your coworkers.
apple is the best!
