Bloomberg: Hulu coming to PlayStation network 'soon'
It was just two weeks ago in the runup to E3 that Reuters spread rumors of Hulu coming to the Xbox 360 and the iPad as some sort of paid service, and now Bloomberg is adding to the chatter, saying that everyone's favorite video service is also in talks to become part of Sony's Playstation Network and appear on the PS3 "soon." As with the previous rumors, Hulu on PS3 is said to be a paid service, but nothing's actually confirmed yet. So is Hulu playing Microsoft, Sony and Apple against each other in a bid to collect the biggest exclusivity fee possible, or are we about to see an aggressive Netflix-style multiplatform rollout? We'll see.

Sounds good. Hope they don't charge too much.
@dardub I hope Hulu goes to the Xbox360 soon
Can I hack a PS3 and get this service in Canada?
@dardub
lmao paid service. owned.
Can't you stream through PlayOn? Last I checked it still worked through my Xbox360.
@dardub "coming back"
those assholes locked us ps3 users out of their service, then they want us to pay for it? They can f*$% off!!!
@dardub it only does everything; and you don't need an app for that.
@tDot
i just use ps3 media server.. and download whatever i want to watch..
@elijahblake
Using PS3 Media Server also solves the 4 GB max problem. I have my PS3 and PC hooked up to my router with an Ethernet cable, then I just copy it over at 10 Mbps. And you can still browse the internet at full speed. It's kind of ridiculous so many NIC's can handle 100 Mbps yet nobody has that...
Anyway, with both hooked up by LAN, you can copy over anything. I have a 1080p rip of the Watchmen on my PS3 that's 14 GB. The FAT32 restriction only applies to any external storage plugged in to the PS3.
FYI for those browsing.
uckApple is going to need to stock up on Jergens and Kleenex when he hears about this...
omg my heart just skipped a beat
Please please please don't make Hulu require PS Plus membership like XBL does for Netflix.
@CentralOffice you dont know what you talking about lol.... you dont have to have live gold to use netflix.... even if you have it you cant do anything with it without a subscription.... so all you need is a hulu subscription.... it should be free cause 50 dollars for what? psn has barely no features at all your playing for free so what are you paying for? i guess voice chat even though you have to buy a bluetooth mic and gotta b 18 to talk online....
@big nazty No you don't know what your talkIng about actually, you need gold for netflix, and would need it for hulu most likely, psn doesn't have much less features as far as I know, but anyone can have an account so there's lots of nooks which is why I have 360
@big nazty
Yup, @That Guy 2 said it best. Maybe Hulu will be rolled out to justify the 'premium features' of decidedly bare-bones PS+. Hope not cuz no way in he'll I'm double dipping for that...I'll just keep downloading and streaming to my PS3 with TVersity.
@big nazty
Actually, you DO need a Xbox Live Gold membership to use Netflix, AND a Netflix membership.
http://www.xbox.com/en-us/live/netflix/
@big nazty you dont have to be 18 to talk online, get your facts straight you just need to have it enabled by the master account
and you can use wired headsets too
i probably know the features of your console better than you do
@manofchao5 lmao you have to enable it? oh really and my bad i as wrong about the gold thing and live cause i wouldnt know all i have is gold... you still have to pay to talk on psn when they roll in premium services and xbox live arcade has way more titles.... thats a big feature ima let you guys look at this video.... please mind that the outcome of it is not relavent anymore seeing that the 360 new slim version is out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fX_bamk-uU
They never confirmed cross game chat for PSN+, you're wrong. At least I assume that is what you were referring to, you do look dumb enough to think you can't "talk" at all on the normal PSN...
why ps network?? y not ios or android or xbox or anything else that is major??
@TheSunman89
starting small, see who bites my guess.
@TheSunman89
Isn't it coming to Xbox in the fall?
@TheSunman89
actually xbox and playstation marketshare are about even. And mor people actually use ps network than live. Live is better r gaming though. Im willing to bet that sony gets exclusive rights to this on consoles since sony can offer cash and access to their sony pictures media to hulu which itself could bring in money for hulu by then charging for movie watching
Meh, I guess it's kinda cool, but I rarely use Netflix on my PS3 or Xbox as it is, I can't see me using Hulu either. For those that would use it, however, it would be a great addition. I just wonder how much they will charge for the subscription? $4.99/month? $9.99?
I think the most expensive Netflix sub is... $17/month or so, but that allows 3 movies out at a time, and instant streaming. I can't imagine them being more expensive than Netflix if you can't get hard copies of the media.
ahh i remember the good old days of my PS3. you know back when i could already do this for FREE. money grubbin $#%$#&%#
I got a PS3, an Xbox 360 and an Iphone;
So I guess I'll be getting Hulu on at least one of them =)
I'm not paying for sh*t. Its free right now isn't it? Just like twitter, last.fm, and Facebook, unless youre using them on Xbox.
@KwietStorm: Twitter is free, sure (who knows how long that existence will last).
The others aren't though - if there are ads, it isn't free. You may not be paying out-of-pocket, but your eyeballs are still looking at those ads, which means there are people out there that will continue to pay Hulu, Facebook and Last.fm to advertise their products.
So, if you had to pay $50/year to Sony for PSN and $50/year to Hulu... that's only $100/year. What if most of the shows you watch on cable are on Hulu? What if the fee means you can watch them ad-free?
Honestly, $100/year is far less than most people around here pay Comcast or Charter or whomever for cable per month. If it's coming, and costs a reasonable price, then it might make sense to check it out and not dismiss it just because it could cost some money.
If this is a bidding war, Who do you think will win?
I bet M$ will :P
I was excited... Till I saw it was going to be a paid service.
I would rather purchase a computer to connect to my TV just for Hulu over a subscription service for Hulu.
YES!
...
Wait. I'm in Europe. *sits in the corner, sulking*
Sprint TV is not so bad as an alternative... If you're in 4g area that is.
Hulu has a lot of gems, I'd pay for their service even with commercials, seeing as how it's replaced my Comcast box already.
net neutrality laws should be written so that services such as hulu, shouldn't be allowed to discriminate between web browsers. Why charge to be shown on TV via a gaming console? I can connect my computer to the TV just as well. It's stupid, and anyone who pays for it is an idiot.
Humm pay for tv shows, or torrent for free, decisions decisions
I've been using PlayOn to watch hulu on my playstation for a year. Forget paying for this new service or even waiting for it.
@ChipK3
Same here. with PlayOn I can watch HULU on all 3 consoles and any DLNA equipped receiver.
paid? lame. I hope it has a better model than the current itunes/PSN store. Something like a monthly pass.
Pay to stream from Hulu? 1 - I have a DVR so I don't have to worry about missing most shows. 2 - If I'm going to pay for the privilege to watch a show, I'm either going to buy it from PSN or iTunes so I can own a copy in good quality instead of watching a pixellated stream that I don't own. Besides, with my DVR I've only bought maybe 5 TV show episodes in the last 2 years.
It'll be a Netflix style multiplatform rollout. With Netflix having gone that route, there really is no other option
I wouln'y mind paying for Hulu to have more content (and streaming it in HD). Thanks to Hulu and Netflix I dropped cable TV over two years ago. Never been happier.
PlayOn rocks, btw. Makes my 360 the ultimate entertainment system.
I tas just wondering og that would've make it available outsider of the us. Would've sure hope so, bit I bet not :(
I wonder if this means that they will push hard to kill playon, I hope not
bake it into Playstation Plus subscription, and I'm happy.
I think Hulu is going to have a uphill battle convincing people to switch to a pay service, when they've been free to date. They're going to have offer more than they do now to entice you to switch (no commercials, more content) OR remove free content (possibly over time), so that you have little choice but to subscribe. I'm suprised they've given away as much content as they have for free to date.
That being said, I think digital downloading/streaming is the long term winner here and will one day be the norm Since Netflix started offering Watch Instantly on a bunch of devices, I now use that almost exclusively rather than disc. If only everything was available that way.
