MobileProtect now officially ready to insure your iPhone 4 from everything*
And just like that, it's confirmed. We'd heard through the grapevine that AT&T may be fixing to certify a third-party to sell an iPhone insurance program, and now it looks as if Asurion has been given the green light by Ma Bell, and not a moment too soon. According to the company, MobileProtect is the "only iPhone (and iPhone 4) insurance to protect against loss or theft (the reason for nearly 50% of phone claims), while also covering water or other liquid damage, accidental damage, and out-of-warranty failure." Of course, you'll have to shell out a borderline-ridiculous $11.99 per month for the coverage (and yeah, there's still a deductible), which is made even more outrageous by the fact that the iPhone 4 and its Gorilla Glass is nigh indestructible. Er, wait...*Claims of "everything" are subject to interpretation, as anyone who has ever dealt with an insurance company will attest.
P.S. - SquareTrade still works on the iPhone 4, and it's probably worth considering. Take a look at the price breakdown after the jump. Also, Worth Ave Group has an option that looks even more acceptable. The bottom line? You can insure everything.
- AT&T - $487
- SquareTrade - $149
- Difference = $338
Two device failures in two years:
- AT&T - $686
- SquareTrade – $199
- Difference = $487

With Asurion MobileProtect, iPhone users who lose their phone, have it stolen or damaged -- including water or other liquid damage -- or who experience a failure after the warranty has expired can receive a replacement iPhone as quickly as the next day.
"Nearly 50 percent of claims we see are filed for lost and stolen phones," said Cindy Christy, Asurion President. "MobileProtect is the first product to include loss and theft coverage in addition to protection for damage and failures after the warranty expires. Plus, it provides the added convenience of next day replacement in most cases."

Hopefully they'll think twice about it. There's an endless list of failed customer service with Asurion.
Are we to assume the three different priced are for the 3GS/iPhone4-16gb/iphone4-32gb?
Seems like insuring the 3GS would be incredibly stupid.
The best insurance to get is Safeware. Go to insuremyiphone.com, which is Safewares website for the iphone. $99 for a year and you can get it at anytime, and it covers theft, loss, accidental damage, EVERYTHING! I got it for my 3GS and my phone was stolen, and received a check in the mail for $500 within a week and a half
These insurance plans with high monthly fees and a deductible, coupled with phone company's shady "In contract" and "out of contract" costs for a new/replacement phone is just criminal.
You'd think your high monthly fees for service would be enough.
If you have state farm, call your agent and ask for a personal article policy. iPhone 4 would be about $3 per month with zero deductible. Protects against all but normal use.
If you're going to say "AT&T may be fixing to ..." you should spell it how you say it "fixin to"
Ok why would you try this? Would you through a brick at your car window just to see if it would break? You can break just about anything some how. If you shoot bullet proof (resistant) glass enough times it will let a bullet through. This could be a cheap replacement glass from this repair company. If so they are making them self’s look real bad
@dandowns ment to say throw..
Those plans are ridiculous!
11.99 a month plus a $199 deductible for a 32gb iphone 4!!?
Get a rider on your homeowners or renters insurance. It would be wat cheaper.
@bigal Yep. My whole house contents insurance costs just under £200 a year. Covers up to £5,000 out of the house, with a £50 excess on each claim. I once lost a phone on the train, I called the insurers at midday, and a new one arrived at my home to me in less than 24 hours.
I have State Farm... same as everyone said above. Covers everything. We asked and re-asked considering we have a 2 and 3 year old boys! They cover 2 laptops and 2 iphones for like $3 a piece.
And the claim does not go against your home owners policy.
This is ridiculous
Global Warranty Group carries a warranty on the Iphone. It covers lost, stolen, damaged, and water damage. It only costs $50 for 1 yr, and $80 for 2 yrs. $100 dollar deductible.
O2 insurance in the UK is £15 pounds per month.. yes that is $22 a month.. ouch!
There is a common misunderstanding what hardness means. Hardness relates to material's ability to scratch something (diamonds are the hardest and thus scratch everything else). But, the harder something is, the more brittle it becomes. If you don't believe me take a hammer to a diamond and see what happens. This phenomenon is called fracture toughness. I noticed that all of the testes for gorilla glass are forces slowly applied, not impact. I am guessing gorilla gas has some chemical treatments to help modified the structure of the glass to help, but honestly there is only so much that can be done. Also, the only scratch I have seen has been on the back surface. I am guessing that this is some other material.
What about credit card companies' warranties? Mine (AmEx and MasterCard) both automatically extend your warranty one year and give you 90 days of accidental damage for no charge and no deductible when you use their card to purchase a product. Any one try to make a claim on these?
I take it the glass is slippery when wet.
I have had to deal with assurion with other phones, and it was terrible. I had to send back 3 phones in a row on the same day I recieved them necause they werw worse than my defective phone.
Yes, like someone else mentioned, try Best Buy. They have the best I came across for insurance/protection plans on the iPhone. For about $13 a month and no deductible. If anything happens to it, they repair it, or if it's beyond repair they replace it. When they are trying to fix it or you are waiting for a replacement phone they give you a loaner phone to use, they said.
At the time when I got my iPhone 3GS they were the only company in my area that was offering any kind of insurance/protection plan for the iPhone.
