Care for some more specificity on when exactly to expect the
Droid X to become even awesomer? Well, according to one "very reliable" source over at
Droid Forums, we can look forward to a late August landing for
Android 2.2 on the X, which will be preceded by a late July delivery on the venerable Droid. Both dates are caveated with an ominous "currently planned" proviso, so don't consider them carved in (
Mile)stone, but we're liking the idea of Motorola having both its flagship devices tasting of
Froyo by summer's end. There's no mention of the
Droid 2, however, which may mean nothing or might suggest that handset's still a fair way away from its release. We shall see.
EVO in late December? o.O
@osk Bwahaha...that's wishful thinking. This is HTC we're talking about! Froyo for HTC phones in 2011, Gingerbread December 12, 2012.
I'm probably just going to root and get the inevitable XDA version of 2.2 for Evo.
Yeah, Droid will get 2.2 in July like the Cliq was supposed to get 2.0 in May, then June, now sometime "real soon" as a Tmobile rep told me.
@rawoods75 If you get the Droid X and it has Android 2.1, how can you upgrade it to 2.2? Can you go to a Verizon store and ask them to upgrade it to 2.2 for you?
it would be nice to know at what stage the updates are for each phone. All this blind guessing and "very reliable" sources crap needs to stop. Google and the manufacturers and carriers need to take responsibility and let their customers know what the deal is.
I don't understand all the secrecy..At least tell us your working on it.
I hope this helps all OEMs feel the pressure and up their efforts.

@barry99705
Already did, It runs pretty smooth.
Here's hoping this speeds up all the OEMs.
-sent from my brand new 2.1
You here that HTC. I want my frozen yogurt right now. In a hurry, I can take the brain freeze. Incredible, not so incredible once everyone has 2.2 and we are still stuck on 2.1.
@davidac doh! Hear that , hear that HTC?
@davidac Well rumor has it (there go the rumors again) that the Desire and Legend are supposed to be getting it pretty soon. And the fact that the Incredible was recently certified for wireless N may point to it coming soon as well.
By 'Late August' they mean "Hopefully by Christmas"
Ahh, gotta love the power of fragmentation and a 3% market share in Europe and the rest of the world. That’s gotta hurt! BUTTHURT
@magadget
Windows is fragmented and seems to be doing fine. Android can do the same. Stop bitching about fragmentation, its a stale argument
@coitis1 actually, that's not the case, as manufacturers don't have to push out the new OS to existing customers, they install it themselves.
Had 2.2 on my droid for two weeks now. Once again, you retail hounds are late to the party.
@Addyct google just recently released the 2.2 source so even if moto wanted to they couldn't have had a release right now. Cyanogen is working hard on their 2.2 Froyo ROM now that they have something to work with. The froyo for the droid that has been out was hacked off of the Google phone.
Heeeyyy... what about my HTC Evo? It's hungry for some 2.2!
@metalshinobi Yeah please I'm begging you HTC, evo needs froyo more than anyone! If the cruddy droid has this update before me I'll be pissed!
@metalshinobi CyanogenMod 6 is supposedly coming to Evo, if you want 2.2 goodness.
@Bshaw1090 it would actually make sense for the original droid to get it first becuz it runs stock android while the Evo runs android with sense.
And the incredible?
@Rampy And how about the Eris..?
No? :(
Motorola is generally pretty quick with their updates. Sense UI is what's holding up you HTC fans.
Ok. Now hunt down some Droid incredible news for us. Thanks.
Sucks want it now
Keep on dreaming. I believe it when I see it. I don't see Verizon would bless 2.2 with its free tethering feature.
@pika2000 Well the tethering can be removed from the ROM if Verizon wants.
But keep in mind they're allowing free wifi tethering on the Palm devices so maybe they'll do the same for Droids.
@pika2000 My guess is that, if they allow WiFi tethering with 2.2 on the Droid, they'll use the same pricing plan they outlined at the Droid X launch last week.
I WANT IT ON INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
What a bunch of whiney little bitches. Damn, I entered the fold.
This better mean that Milestone is getting 2.2 around the same time!
@Hermith I'm not holding my breath, sadly.
What about the Incredible?? When will we get Froyo?
Why would the Droid 2 be on the list, when it's supposed to run 2.2 at launch?
Will it fix the HD video cos it got owned by iPhone 4
fuc andriod, this laggin update and finnally had enough, continuall specualtion on when updates will be and then "in a couple of month" line is getting old real quick. until google has a policy to manufacturers that they have to update thier software within a month then no more android. ffs 13 year kids can cook up roms within days and multinational multibillion $ corporations taking a year to get the rom update is unacceptable
@tc4101
Difference is,a13 year old hacker doesn't have to worry about quality and bricking phones and lawsuits when he makes his rom. Multinational corporations do, so they take a little longer releasing an update to make sure everything works right.
Nice, beautiful song
Gee, I wonder if the Nexus will ever get that official 2.2 OTA. You know, being it's the Google phone and all.
If you get the Droid X and it has Android 2.1, how can you upgrade it to 2.2? Can you go to a Verizon store and ask them to upgrade it to 2.2 for you?
