Motorola's Droid X up for pre-order today at Best Buy: $200, no pesky mail-in rebates
Sweatin' those iPhone 4 reception issues? Got a thing for beastlier phones? Still perturbed that your white iPhone 4 pre-order didn't exactly "work out" as expected? If you've found yourself nodding that noggin' up and down upon reading any of the above questions, you should know that Best Buy's offering pre-sales of Motorola's forthcoming Droid X starting today. The benefit, naturally, is that you can avoid Verizon's pesky $100 mail-in rebate, paying just $199.99 (plus all applicable taxes and bribes) to BB while grabbing a coveting spot in line for the next giant Android phone. Not like you needed an excuse to take a half-day today, but hey -- at least you've now got a legitimate one.
Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile have truly become the leading destination this summer for all your mobile smartphone needs – from HTC EVO 4G from Sprint to the iPhone 4 on AT&T to the upcoming DROID X on Verizon. Enthusiasts of the Android platform can be the first to reserve a copy of the new Verizon DROID X by Motorola today at Best Buy. The pre-sale begins June 25 and the smartphone will land in stores on July 15.
"With the buzz we've seen around the Android platform, Best Buy is confident that consumers will be thrilled about the Verizon DROID X by Motorola pre-sale," said Scott Anderson, senior director of merchandising at Best Buy Mobile. "It has been a great summer for smartphones with the HTC EVO and iPhone 4 launches, and the addition of the DROID X adds another strong option for our customers to consider."
The Verizon DROID X by Motorola features Google's Android 2.1 operating system, 4.3-inch screen and 720P HD video recording and playback. Android 2.2 will arrive to customers on the DROID X later this summer. The DROID X is available at Best Buy for $199.99 with 2-year activation, with no mail-in rebate hassle.

Meh ill stick with my EVO 4G
As long as it is ANDROID, You WIN!
@xifranx
right along with you...evo still has alot of stuff that droid simply doesn't do
@xifranx
Let me guess, that Droid eye eats children with this one. Buyer bewar theres a techno apocalypse
wheres Resident Evo when you need him
@xifranx Verizon's coverage is much better where I live. So I'll probably move over to this device once 2.2 is released for it. Really tempted to root my Droid (I am very lazy) finally and update to 2.2 to see what its all about.
The speed improvement to 2.2 I hear is well worth it.
@Zylam Well I think Josh T thinks its a creeper phone. :/
My iPhone 4s screen looks like a fingernail compared to this beast.
@xifranx
What's a mail-in rebate?

@TomSawyer surprising the evo has had less hardware problems than the iphone.
@Energy Turtle
A phone that sells 600,000 in the day of preordering, tends to have more problems than a phone that sells 60,000 in the first week.
Just saying.
@uckApple 2 things wrong with this phone no kick stand and no front facing camera other then that i would have switched back NYC gets great sprint and verizon i just canceled my incredible contract for the EVO
@xifranx
Evo is nice but I'll go with the big V. Ready for my first smartphone and it's really great to have competition and choice. GO ANDROID GO!
@xifranx
Even lefties can use this phone ...woot
@potretr
One for the good guys @ best buy mooooobile!
@TomSawyer
Good thing you're right handed, or else you wouldn't have been able to send this from your iPhone.
-Sent from my Nexus One
@spielnicht Werd
Sent From My 27" iMac

i always wait for the reviews no matter what it is.. phone, movies etc. .
Any word about a GSM model?
@djt
"Really tempted to root my Droid (I am very lazy) finally and update to 2.2 to see what its all about."
Do it!!! It's really easy to do even for lazy people.
1) Go to the marketplace and download "ROM Manager".
2) Run it and choose the first option, Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. 3) Choose "Download ROM" and choose either CyanogenMod or Bugless Beast
4) Then choose the latest version of that ROM.
That's it!!! It's so easy it's rediculous.
@dswatson83 ...as in? the only thing it has that the Droid X doesn't is the front camera and 4G. 4G's not going to be expansive enough to be noteworthy for another year or two, and the front camera would only be used with people who actually have one.
The Droid X has a far better GPU/CPU, a multi-touch keyboard, and the screen most likely doesn't fall off, and there won't be any need for magical rewiring firmware updates.
@travis8214 Ummmm BTW
Front Faceing Camera On the Evo works with Desktop Computers Via Skype and Via Fring
Also Pretty Awesome to Lifecast on facebook or any other social network i agree with the 4G thing tho idc even tho we have it spotty here in NYC
@Makali
actually 'lefties can't use several HTC models or the Nexus one" either, they all suffer from dropped signal strength depending on how you hold them. It's a fact of life, the only difference is they don't sell 1,000,000 phones in 1 day, so it's not news.
@Bobbo Thanks for the info Bobbo! I think I will try that out this weekend.
@adamjustadam Yes most phones will have dropped signal strength when you cover the antenna. Problem is the iPhone completely loses signal when u hold it "the wrong way" A huge difference.
@TomSawyer What does "no tethering" mean?
whats this used for?
is it like a iphone but it doesnt say iphone on it?
weird contraption.....
motorola should...... stop trying
adding more power is not always the option,
@Nestea69
Actually, the screen on this device isn't yellow, it's on a capable network, and you can probably make calls while actually holding it in your hand. It's the farthest thing from an iPhone.
@Nestea69 How is this anything like the iPhone?
Not to mention the design is different and is better (material-wise). But okay, they obviously started working on this as soon as they saw the iPhone 4 to make it soo alike.
@man
you're right, thats definately not a iphone.
it has 3 apps in total LOL
can that capable phone control my pc? no? thats intresting cause the iphone does it just fine
@Nestea69
Those touch screen copying bastards apple invented that! Oh wait...
@rutter9
I think you guys are missing a huge bonus on the Droid X: DIVX.
@Nestea69
Actually remote desktop on a 4.3 inch screen is much better than on a 3.5 yellowed screen that you cant even use unless you are not holding it.
@Nestea69
Android has plenty of apps that can be used for controlling your PC, I use gmote and it works great. But does iPhone have an app that controls signal strength when holding the phone? You better start looking for one
@Nestea69
How is this anything like an iPhone?
@Nestea69
Still using an Apple IIe then?
@jubby2000 Is DivX support hardware based or software? I'd love to see some good Divx support out there on xda and others for rooted Android devices.
@n8equalsd
Hes right, it looks almost exactly the exact same as the iPhone 4.
All you have to do is take off the fake mustache.
@Nestea69 Yeah that whole HDMI output thing is lame compared to the hype-fest that is... Facetime.
@Nestea69
Damn... you are a strong case of Applepsy
@uckApple Funny, I felt the Iphone 4 looked exactly like the Evo when the first shots came out too...
@Nestea69
Phone looks sexy...nice addition to the Droid army.
Now onto your comment...cant believe iphone people still have guts to comment on other when their primary function does not work and the company says you DONT KNOW HOLD TO HOLD IT. Its like taking your car to the dealership and them telling you are not driving it right.WTF
anyway....I like my EVO I hope the 2 people here at work get it cause i want to play with it.
@Nestea69
The Droid X doesn't have that big-ass bezel around it.
@man neither is the screen on the iphone yellow. If anything it will most likely blow away the Droid X in terms of resolution, color accuracy, viewing angle and bright lit conditions.
As far as the network and losing connection the verdict is still out there. Verizon has done a good job of marketing their service as being more reliable than ATT. But there are more smartphone users on ATT than Verizon and just yesterday around 70K Verizon customers switched to ATT.
As for other apps and general smoothness of the UI, we already know iOS pretty much wipes the floor with Android. So that isn't going to change.
Only reason to get a Droid X is if you're fed up with a Blackberry and want to stick with Verizon the Droid X is a decent phone. However, unless they get the iphone, Verizon will never have as many smart phone users as ATT - even if Verizon believes otherwise. ATT has added more new customers than Verizon every single quarter since 2007. Every single.
@jaffreywali
Don't really care if Verizon catches up to AT&T in smartphone users. Who buys a phone or picks a network based on that??
Note: I have both networks and IN MY LOCATION Verizon rules.
@Seven2k The Evo has flaws as well, don't act like it's immune to not being able to function properly, it is manmade so it isn't perfect. At the end of the day the iPhone still prevails & still is superior.
@jubby2000 Is this confirmed? I'm done with my iPhone 3G. Please let me know where you saw that the Droid X is divx compatible. If so I will switch as soon as it comes out. That's the nail in the coffin for me. Divx on a 4.3" screen is glorious!
Hope the preorder goes smoothly.
@FriarNurgle
All 10 of them
@uckApple Actually, this was funny :D
@FriarNurgle
This is how the pre-order will go...maybe the same has EVO.
Walk up TO A PERSON and say i want to pre-order a Droid X....BB asso. hand you a form and you fill it out...they say 50 bucks please...you pay and GET A RECEIPT...they put in your order call you in a couple of weeks and schedule and appointment for to pick it up and activate.... WOW sounds hard right!
Get to talk to a really person and not hit the refresh button 1 million time and have the server time and have verizon say too many orders OMG shut it down!!
Basically thats how it goes.
