Motorola's Droid X up for pre-order today at Best Buy: $200, no pesky mail-in rebates
Sweatin' those iPhone 4 reception issues? Got a thing for beastlier phones? Still perturbed that your white iPhone 4 pre-order didn't exactly "work out" as expected? If you've found yourself nodding that noggin' up and down upon reading any of the above questions, you should know that Best Buy's offering pre-sales of Motorola's forthcoming Droid X starting today. The benefit, naturally, is that you can avoid Verizon's pesky $100 mail-in rebate, paying just $199.99 (plus all applicable taxes and bribes) to BB while grabbing a coveting spot in line for the next giant Android phone. Not like you needed an excuse to take a half-day today, but hey -- at least you've now got a legitimate one.
Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile have truly become the leading destination this summer for all your mobile smartphone needs – from HTC EVO 4G from Sprint to the iPhone 4 on AT&T to the upcoming DROID X on Verizon. Enthusiasts of the Android platform can be the first to reserve a copy of the new Verizon DROID X by Motorola today at Best Buy. The pre-sale begins June 25 and the smartphone will land in stores on July 15.
"With the buzz we've seen around the Android platform, Best Buy is confident that consumers will be thrilled about the Verizon DROID X by Motorola pre-sale," said Scott Anderson, senior director of merchandising at Best Buy Mobile. "It has been a great summer for smartphones with the HTC EVO and iPhone 4 launches, and the addition of the DROID X adds another strong option for our customers to consider."
The Verizon DROID X by Motorola features Google's Android 2.1 operating system, 4.3-inch screen and 720P HD video recording and playback. Android 2.2 will arrive to customers on the DROID X later this summer. The DROID X is available at Best Buy for $199.99 with 2-year activation, with no mail-in rebate hassle.

Can't wait until my AT&T contract is up...was goin to get the new iPhone 4 with my upgrade but not with all the problems I'm hearing about...DROID X here I come
This looks way better than the garbage HTC churns out!
I seriously hate phones. I'm so tired of the moronic commentary and people wanting you to like "their" phone that I could puke in my suit. "Oh, pre-orders for X are low...it sucks," or "Oh, iPhone is Garbage." Jesus Krast...if I were working for any of these companies I would cream my assless chaps over how convoluted and impressionable my consumers "thought process" is. Damn...I used to really look foward to new releases.
I'm up for an upgrade on July 22nd. I'm one of the "children" on a family plan. Anyone know if Best Buy will be able to get me the phone on the 15th? I know it's only a week, but I worry about Evo / Incredible-esq shortages on this. I think it's going to be huge (no pun intended... ok, maybe a little). Plus, I'm seriously coveting it right now. :)
No online pre-orders, how quaint.
Does it come with froyo? I'm assuming yes.
@superaj No. It will push Froyo out in late August.
Naaaa!!! I like my iPhone 4! Note to the stupid, wait a month and wait for the buy one droid x and get 3 droids x free "deal" hahahahaha
Sent from my iPhone 4
@Allstar650
How did u send it? Did u get signal? Are u holdin that iCrap in right way?
@JAG Hater alert! People are still going to buy it no matter what, just go hate in silence.
If only At&t would see the light... Guess I'll have to take my 5 lines to the new Verizon...
I looked on the Best Buy website and it was not on there to order. Did they set a specific time?
Now this is the one without a keyboard right?
@husher
You said it
I got mine! I'm the second person in Atlanta to pre-order.
Can you still pre-order it at the Verizon store instead of BB???
Also, I am still waiting to find out what happens if you pre-order, but end up not liking the phone??? Do you get your money back? Re-stocking fee? Other BS? Also how long does the rebate usually take to get?
I just am not sure if I want a phone this large... but I also don't want to miss-out if their supplies run out and then I have to wait a whole month for more of them to ship.
@Hazdaz No pre-orders through Verizon, only BB. If you don't end up wanting the phone, you can just keep the gift cad and use it for something else...you're not obligated to take the phone. At least that's how they explained it to me.
Trolololo the best buy app for my iPhone 4 doesn't have the ore order anywhere
Will u send it to my home?
Whenever you see too many "Highly/Highest Ranked" posts, this is the conclusion:
1. The post has something to do with Apple competitor products/services.
2. Apple haters out in full flow all together bashing Apple products and services even though the article is not even related to Apple.
Good job guys!
Someone has said this and it's true for sure...When you are too successful, people hate(jealous of) you more and that means you are definitely doing something right. Keep it up Apple!
@buy2gain Amen!
There's already divx players for android. Rockplayer ... google it
So I just preordered it, and this is the first phone I've preordered.
All the guy did was fill out a short form with my name and phone number and we set up a 10AM appointment for July 15th, and then the $50 deposit was put on a gift card and given back to me. I don't have anything written saying I preordered the phone, only the gift card.
Does this sound right?
@NickButler Yep...that's exactly how it went down with me. Can't wait till 7/15.
I have a nexus one but this phone is "one sexy beast"!
The funny thing about this phone is that it's a Motorola O_O IMO they make the crappest phones. I don't care how you try to pretty it up with an UI, their phones aren't even considered in my book. I think it will fail as people will flock to something better.
So I just went into best buy today to pre-order the Droid X, and the woman said that I couldn't upgrade because I wasn't eligible by the release day. I have a Blackberry Storm and my contract ends December 2010.
I told her that they announced that any verizon customer whose contract expires in 2010' could upgrade to the droid X early for $200 on July 15th by signing a 2 year contract. She called 2 people (verizon reps) who said that they hadn't heard of any such thing.
I've read it on probably 10 different sites, however... Am I crazy? Did I read things wrong? Won't I be eligible?
Me to Best Buy associate: Can I pre-order a Droid X today?
BBA: Yes you can, have a seat and we'll get right to it.
Me: Ok, I do want to pay full price... don't want a contract.
BBA: Oh, sorry sir. Can't help you. We're only taking preorders with a contract.
Me: So... I want to give you more money, but you're telling me I can't?
BBA: Yes, I'm afraid that's the case.
Me: Shakes head.
got my pre order today..
What the heck.... went to a Verizon Store yesterday and no pre-order there.
:(
(I prefer to go through Verizon because I don't know if I want this phone, and BB is shady)
where do i go to pre-order?
@Prof X never mind my comment
BTW - You can no longer pre-order the X @ BB. They stopped accepting orders a couple of hours before I came in to order mine . . . And they also are no longer selling the Incredible ... Something about issues with screen durability and future liability. Said Verizon had discontinued it ...
I want. Can't afford Verizon though.
