Why can't we all just get along? AT&T's network works fine for some, horrible for others. If it works well for you - good.
Verizon phones are getting better and better... especially with the DroidX coming next month. And the Incredible is a great phone, I'm not sure what there is to laugh about it.
whats droid x? is that the typical incrimental hardware updates with the same old hack-together OS? You do understand most people dont care how many task managers android has in the marketplace, right? People also dont care about open source, because it obviously has proven that it doesnt make anything better.
@kid300 We are an honest majority not a vocal minority. I can not make a call on 29th st and broadway with full 3g signal showing on the phone! Its a good thing I barely make phone calls (few friends).
I had AT&T for 2 years (3G and 3GS). I had calls drop regularly. This occurred in two different areas on a regular basis (Home / College). 3G seemed to drop out for no reason.
While I hate to agree with you that CDMA tech is on it's way out, the phones on Verizon are far from horrible. How's this for a crappy lineup: Touch Pro 2, Droid, Incredible, Pre/Pixi, any number of CrackBerries, and soon to be Droid 2 and Droid X. All very, very horrible.
Don't lie to yourself. Just because you get good reception doesn't mean there aren't millions of people who don't. In Los Angeles area I have witnessed my friends with iPhones drop calls, get text messages late, not have reception in their own homes and work places. It's really bad and LA is a major metropolitan area where you would think AT&T would have better infrastructure.
The iPhone 4 is a worthy competitor to the Droid X and Droid Incredible, not the other way around. One of the huge reasons for that is the quality and reliability of service you get on Verizon.
if you knew anything about telecommunications, you would understand that major metropolitan area have the largest congestion of data on the planet, and just adding hundreds of cell towers everywhere doesnt fix anything, But its ok, keep saying at&t isnt doing anything and they dont know anything.
@kid300 Just admit androids ugly If the Droid X is just an incremental hardware update, what's that make the iPhone 3G and 3GS? Those were tiny updates and the phone only really got much of an update with the iPhone 4.
Also, the task manager argument is dead. Most people know that task managers are unnecessary since Android can handle itself.
@kid300 Just admit androids ugly Please stop you give people with iphones bad names. On to the story, the name change I believe but them not wanting a phone that by early reports have sold over a million at launch. I can't believe that after all this is a company and like all companies they are out there to make money.
Verizon, imma let you finish, but you need a new commercial.
Open to hot chick talking on her DroidX. After 15 seconds she smiles, switches to her left hand and jots something down with her right. Fade to black, then three white letters: PFM
"Rule The Air"? Would be more appropriate of a tag-line for an air-force...
And anyway, the avatar-the last airbender, you know, not the blue one... is not going to let it happen anyway... so lots of false marketing here, people!
@kid300 What does your network have for a proper phone operating system? iOS? The operating system that's been out since 2007, and just now enabled psuedo-multitasking? WebOS? The operating system that just got bought up by hp for use in printers? Your android phones are filled with bloatware to the point of unusability. Your network doesn't even have a proper smartphone! Comment me back when the Vibrant comes out.
Why are you trying to defend AT&T's network? They themselves have even admitted to the issues. You're like a super apologist...only you're not apologizing. You're an excusealogist
"It doesn't work? Clearly you don't understand the underlying technology. When you do, it'll magically work!"
Incedible, Droid, Eris, and the coming Droid X. At&t has nothing but a bunch of crappy dumb phones and the can't get nothing right IdiotPhone. CDMA dying!? Not with better building penetration and range than GSM. Oh, and we can hold our phones anyway we like, get my drift buddy?
I love how Apple dittoheads became AT&T fanboys when the iPhone was release, and feverishly defend AT&T as much as they would their beloved Apple, as if they were the same company.
kid300: You realize that the "A" in AT&T doesn't stand for Apple, right?
You also realize that GSM is more "ancient" and less advanced than CDMA, right?
Take two on that commercial. Before fade to black, zoom to the girl's notepad to see what she's written: PFM. Fade to black, then white letters "Lefties are people too", then new Verizon logo.
@Revolutionary - Verizon 3G?! Really? LOL! More like 2.7G. If it can't do voice and data at the same time its not really "3G" period. Qualcomm's Frankenstein trick of EVDO bonded to old ass CDMA is tech Bondo plain and simple. So please spare us the hype. CDMA should have died when TDMA died. Now bring on the LTE already. Sayin...
@Dustin and Minnesota... and Wisonsin... and North/ South Dakota... and Wyoming.. and Montana... and, oh wait now im just getting obnoxious. You get the point.
@Revolutionary AT&T is very effective. It's the iPhone that drops calls...before I got the iPhone I never dropped calls, the iPhone alone has given AT&T a bad rep, when in actuality, they're very good
stop naming a bunch of phones that run android, the worst and ugliest UI on the planet with less-functional apps than their iphone counterpart (see facebook and virtually all other apps)
Hey everybody, this guy has been banned several times already under the names: Android looks hacked together Fragmented Account5
and probably more. You may notice that he created this account right after "Android looks hacked together" was banned. Clearly he's just an anti-Android troll, probably paid by Apple to spread propaganda. So please, if you see stupid usernames like this one, report instead of downrank. Thank you.
@Frankenstein Black You do realize LTE and HSDPA are based on CDMA tech, right? (HSDPA is based on WCDMA, which stands for Wideband CDMA) In fact it is GSM tech that is going to die off with the advent of HSDPA, and in the future, LTE, while CDMA will live on.
False. LTE doesn't even exist yet. WiMAX is a better 4G technology and it will be more worldly available. I still have the last laugh though because sprint is getting LTE too! ha suck on that
@kid300 Just admit androids ugly So I am "nobody"? I have an iPod Touch, but only for the app store. I hate iTunes so much! iTunes locks you into them, and if you want to share your music with a family member... no problem, just re download it from iTunes. Drag n' Drop was first, and still the best.
@Dustin Thanks for Blaming AT&T (yet again) for a failure of the FCC and not anything AT&T can do about it.
NYC is simply so dense, that is is NOT POSSIBLE to support all the devices that operate in the same airspace as they have reserved by the FCC (which, btw, included devices not from AT&T that happen to also have the capability of using that airspace, combined with the fact that NYC is heavily transient, and AT&T can't exactly limit subscriber share there either, nor prevent NYers from importing devices registered to people out of state even if they tried).
btw: Verizon also admits issues in NY, SF, Chicago, and Dallas, even though it;ls not near as pronounced, and not ridiculed either.
I am an AT&T customer but you're full of FAIL. Verizon's 4G network that will prob be 3x bigger then AT&T's is LTE the same as AT&T's, they are done with CDMA/EVDO you twit.
But anyone who would make a user name like yours for ANY phone is obviously a moron irl.
@kid300 Just admit androids ugly. True cell towers alone are meaningless. However Verizon spends more on infrastructure upgrades than any provider while At&t spends more on advertising to tell you that their network is fine. And by the way there is nothing wrong with At&T's network you are just holding it wrong
@Mr Blue Great phones, OS still needs some maturity, but the deal-breaker I'm afraid is the simple lack of ability to make voice and data connections concurrently. I spend about 4 hours a day on calls, and MUST be able to get e-mail, SMS, GPS, and more while on those calls. I also have to be able to receive calls when tethered as dropping the VPN connection to a customer you're supporting when they call you simply doesn't work... If Verizon ever got voice/data concurrency running, and then changes it's billing model to not be anti-consumer (um, can we get some rollover here, and oh, not charge 4000% more for overage data than for the first 5GB please?), then MAYBE i'd switch, but if I really had an issue with AT&T, I'd probably go Sprint or t-mobile first... The people at verizon are profiteering assholes, and it's one of the most evil companies on earth as far as how they treat their consumers.
@kid300 Just admit androids ugly I know, Verizon has such horrible phones. They only have the Droid, Droid Eris, Droid Incredible, Droid X, Kin 1 & 2, Motorola Devour, Samsung Omnia 1 & 2, LG Fathom, HTC Imagio,
Oh yeah, I forgot this too, they're all exclusive to Verizon, and not on any other US carrier.
And Verizon only has the best 3G network out there. Pshhhh, AT&T's so much better.
@Simba501 AT&T is pretty shitty. When I moved to Portland my iPhone was losing calls left and right and then not receiving calls at all. I had other phones lying around and since I was out of my warranty and did not buy the applecare I switched to my older 3G MotoQ. It booted fine and all features worked except text messaging. So I went to activate it and when they sent me a signal to my device it no longer booted. I asked AT&T to reimburse me for the phone, they said no. I went a week without service until I could pick up an old razr from someone, and I still lost calls constantly.
So I paid a $65 ETF and went to Verizon. My Droid Eris is a POS, but at least my calling woes are over.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Verizon, the network you can make calls. Join us today.
@Revolutionary
wow are the anti-at&t fanboys are sad. On at&t, I cant remember the last time I had dropped call. actually, I almost never lose a 3g signal.
Have fun with your dying CDMA tech and horrible phones on verizon. htc incredible is the best thing you have? bwuahaha. good one.
@kid300 Just admit androids ugly

Have fun trying to make a call, if possible.
@Herman Melville
I bet the lord is even more pissed that he can't make a call to earth.

@kid300 Just admit androids ugly
Damn, you got downranked in less than a minute. A new record!
Unleash the downranken!
@Dustin
Wrong. theres a vocal minority from new york that dont understand technology.

Not.
@Wjackson25
Sprint 4g? you mean 3.5g , because most people havent gotten over 2.5 mbps speeds. REAL 4g is LTE, not ghetto wifi called wimax.

Quick question. In how many countries is Verizon active again? Something wrong there with the logo in the picture I think.
