Expansys becomes exclusive retailer for Huawei S7 Android tablet
Huawei's Android-based, Snapdragon-powered S7 tablet certainly managed to impress at Computex earlier this month, and it looks like you'll soon be able to get one yourself -- UK retailer Expansys has announced that it'll be the first to carry it and, for the time being at least, the only place to get one. Somewhat curiously, Expansys lists a 768MHz Snapdragon processor, not 1GHz as we had heard before, but the rest of the specs are right in line. That includes Android 2.1, a 7-inch WVGA display, 3G and WiFi connectivity, a 2-megapixel camera, and a microSD card slot for some additional storage, among other standard tablet fare. Sound like just the tablet you've been waiting for? It'll set you back £299 (or about $450) and should ship within seven days.

Huawei needs a major rebranding and ad campaign, a la HTC.
I wonder if they make quality goods, as I have never handled a Huawei product.
@xxjoaquin The mostly make enterprise grade networking gear. Routers for ISPs and telecoms and such. Generally known for having good quality in their consumer product lines.

Weirdly, the lawsuit that Cisco had filed back in 2003 against Huawei and 3Com was entirely dropped by Cisco so I'm guessing it may have been total nonsense.
@hated one,
Being Android fan, I still mostly agree with you :( These tablets do a bad job for Android. And while there are excellent Android phones which already surpassed iPones in virtually anything, Android tablets still suck. This will change soon, though.
HAH. This is the most awesome device out there :DDDDD If they really release it now. AND if it has any damn Ram in it.
256MB. Let it rot!
I hate it when people blame 'Android' for making crappy devices.
Google have created the Android OS, not the hardware!
Great vid at umpc.com
market enabled, maps, supports voice calls, removable battery :)

@hated one
this one has a 3g and also a video camera..how much is the iPad with all this ?
@sliderem
It can't play flash, but neither ipad can't do that.
and for the rest, it can do most of the job for half the price of the ipad.
If your new android device is running 2.1, you blew it.
@magallanes No, no it can't. I doubt there are any tablet optimized applications in the entire Android Marketplace.
A lot of you haters seem to forget that the iPad experience is a lot about the Apps, not just the iPad itself. It would be like buying a TV so you can watch 10 channels vs getting a TV + Cable box to watch hundreds of channels.
Seven inches is about the perfect size, my s10-3t is ten and it's a bit too bulky to use for very long in tablet mode.
why is everyone bitching about the price? the ipad starts at 500 bucks and that's perfectly reasonable? the price listed is for the UK with all the insane taxes they pay. a ps3 costs around 375 bucks there. i'm sure if this makes it to the US it'll be quite a bit cheaper.
So, can it at least re-arrange icons inside a folder? :rolleyes:
Engadget's previous article says it has a resistive touchscreen. That means you have to use a pen?
As for the lack of apps for this form factor, these are the first devices in this form factor. There weren't any iPad apps until the iPad was launched. "Build it, and they will come."
Now if Google would get off their behinds and endorse tablets so tablet apps could be put in the market.
@toddjy
Just watched the umpc video on Youtube. If I could pick this up at BestBuy, I'd probably buy it. Too bad it's got a front facing camera only.
To answer my own question, it doesn't need a pen. But it's got an utterly pointless scroll doohickey. And the connector port was huge. Did it have both sd and micro-sd slots?
@toddjy this product will have both cap and ris. touchscreen u just have to choose which one u want and it will have FULL android market(belive me i know)
I say stay away from all things Huawei. Too many people have questions about the companies ties to Chinese government.

I will wait for the MSI Android tablet with Nvidia tegra 2 (dual core arm cortex A9) and a 10" capacitive screen due out later this year.

@MrLinux
Like any other Tegra 2 devices, that's probably going to be delayed due to buggy drivers. But $399 would most likely be 3999Kr here (Which is $800)
Its not $450 if people would read.
Its $354.99. From there USA site.
If you order this product before 3pm CST today, US customers can expect shipment in 11 working days. Standard delivery cost for this item is $11.95

why buy this when the archos has built in drive? and anyone who thinks bigger is better has no idea what the purpose of ultra portables is. a 10" slim tablet is not ultra portable. in fact i laugh at the minority of itampon owners walking the streets with no sensible way of carrying it without looking like an idiot.
As far as telecom gear is concerned they are slipping badly. With Calix recently going public and the amount of available cash they have, they are a powerhouse.
Costs posted - This will be much cheaper in Canada and the USA.
