Acer's updated Predator gaming desktop swoops down from the trees to decapitate the competition
When launched back in 2008, Acer's Predator desktop was a mean gaming rig -- and we don't just mean because it had a tendency to actually set things on fire. We're pretty sure the new, just announced revision of the desktop won't suffer the same ailment, a non-customizable update that sports a 2.8GHz Core i7 930 CPU, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 GPU, 1.5TB of storage, 12GB of DDR3 RAM, and an asking price of one buck under $2,000. That's a solid deal, and the new black and orange case design looks solid too, every bit as loud as old orange and black one. It's just perfect for showing your opponents just how serious you are about your gaming, though we're thinking it might have been even more popular if the Stanley Cup had gone the other way.

@fowenati I thought it was another one of those robots when i first saw it xD
Okay, I'll start.
GET TO DA CHOPPAAAAAHH!
Sooner or later one of these things will transform into a Transformer, and things will get real xD
Article title win!
@fowenati
I agree. Kill it with FIRE.
@fowenati looks like a big cpu heat sink
@fowenati I just shit my pants at the site of that
Looks worse than a predator. Maybe a predator's gizzards. Hideous...
@Smart People Play Tuba
WHAT'S DA MATTA DILLON, DA CIA GOT YOU PUSHING TOO MANY PENCILS??
That has got be the ugliest case i have EVER seen
@Cactusweasel
It's a Predator. It's one ugly motha #$@a.
@Cactusweasel on the contrary, I think this is the most bad-ass looking case ever!
@gargle
I would say it's either bad or ass, but not the two combined.
@Cactusweasel Ugly but Bad! I'd throw away my Cosmos S for this.
@Cactusweasel
They would make more money selling cases
@Cactusweasel
My Antec 900 is a pretty ugly case, too. But it looks more functional that this.
Personally, I'd reduce the size (I'm a fan of shoebox cases), go watercooled, 6GB of RAM is plenty and easier to overclock, and include a nice 80GB fast SSD boot drive and a single 2TB platter drive for data storage.
@Ducman69 but that would defeat the point of this ridiculous, ridiculous computer. overkilling it is the point!
@MrHashbrown
Speed is the point IMO, and if you can overclock higher with fewer RAM sticks and achieve better performance, you win. =)
@Ducman69 so true, i mean whats the point of it if it preforms at 1/2 its specs
@Ducman69 6gb of RAM is overkill for the vast majority of people including hardcore gamers.
@MrHashbrown
Overkill? Hardly. The specs on this are actually common for a gaming machine.
Yes, the case looks ridiculous (ly ugly).
This computer is totally awesome for people without girlfriends.
@mrtnrwn
or lives
like me!!!
@mrtnrwn
Or people with girlfriends but can't be assed with them.
Overpriced and ugly.
Just how i like my pre-built computers.
I'm not into PC gaming at all, but is this what a typical gaming rig case should look like? I guess the target demographic for 'serious PC gamers' must be somewhere between 8 and 14 years old then. My god, what an abomination.
@drange
Nah, most PC gamers that build their own PCs don't go for tacky stuff like this. You may see the stupid neon lights around peoples computers, but not much else.
@Ducman69
I think I'll just stick with my ps3 and xbox for faster games and my normal desktop for the incidental city builder and stuff like that. I find faster games to be much more enjoyable from the couch in the living room anyway, and with an i7 and an HD4850 I think I should be ok for all the other stuff for at least a year or 2.
@drange We call people who like this stuff "ricers"
@QwaF :D I build my own gaming rigs and I love this case; I guess it is good you said most. I don't get why it is a abomination? That is like calling a Vincent Van Gogh painting ugly.
@drange I wonder why they deleted my comments. *scratches head*
Wow, that is SO ugly and I'm sure super expensive. Any hardware enthusiast and/or gamer will laugh at this and at the fact someone actually wasted money on it. Unfortunately this is a trend right now, it's getting more and more difficult to find just clean simplistic black box designs, they all have to all lit up and ugly.
Prepare for warp speed.
Can it get any more unnecessary! magnificent. Although a 480 would have sufficed better.
It's what I imagine optimus primes turd would look like!!!!
So, it's only a little better than a netbook, then? Lol
Doesn't any PC come with a good SSD of at least 250GB? I know they still costs a lot, but if i am going to buy a whole new PC like this I wouldn't mind paying another $500 for the SSD....
@DeanSp
I don't know why people insist on such gigantic SSDs at current pricing levels.
Get yourself a 80GB boot drive, which is more than enough to fit Windows and most if not all of your applications, then store your movies, music, pictures, and backup of your bootdrive on a big ol 2TB platter drive.
Even if you do decide to install the game on your platter drive, it would be getting 100% dedicated time to JUST the game, since the whole OS is offloaded to the separate SSD drive, and I haven't run into any game that has been bottlenecked by a harddrive.
I almost liked last years model enough to consider purchasing it. But this, WTF!???!!??!!
That's uglier than chris brown's attitude.
LOL, gamers.
wow that's ugly
Good luck cleaning that case from dust.
Needs more gimicky, non-performance related crap stuck to it.
Holy crap thats ugly. Looks like you could cut yourself just looking at.
What the heck is that in the picture?
What the hell is that black thing on top? A handle?
@Hazdaz
Handle? Have you seen the size of this thing? It's not moving anywhere.
