Aiptek's 3D photo frame serves up the fruit of your 3D camcorder's labor
When Aiptek introduced its i2 3D Camcorder, it pledged to release a 3D photo frame to match. Well, here it is, the "Portable 3D Photo and Video Display," a 7-inch parallax LCD display that will not require glasses to create the illusion of depth -- but we're curious to see what it'll look like from across the room. It's capable of displaying photos and videos captured by the i2 (or other 3D device) and releases on August 15 for $200, meaning the entire package (shooter and viewer) will set you back $400. That's not a terrible price for taking and displaying photos of the future.

Never saw this coming. But then again, I was only looking for it in 2D.
@NHAnimator
Im putting this in the "yet another thing I DON'T need in 3D" catergory
@Pojomofo
I don't "need it" but, I'll buy it when it hits a reasonable price...
But will it blend?
Yes, but you'll have to snap it in half first
3D has many none important uses
@FritzJ92 I beg to differ, what about 3D porn
@FritzJ92
Who would spend $400 masturbate to a photo fra.....
WTH am I talking about it's the internet... -_-
@FritzJ92
Yeah 3D is so overrated. When I go outside, I wish it was flat 2D because I hate depth. It gives me a head ache. It's stupid having two eyes.
Seems fairly pointless but kudos for using a BTCC pic!
@DRFS Rich Of course! The BTCC is awesome!
Engadget step away from photoshop
@petebob796 But then where we get the bad ass pictures from? The MC Hammer iPhone 4 one was hilarious!!!
"Hey man check out my 3D family..."
"HOLY SHIT"
"What?..."
"Your kids are STILL ugly..."
This will go great with the Nintendo 3DS and it's ability to take 3D pictures...
I.... i kind of.... like this.... 3d photo frames.... would be cool, too bad you're gonna need two eyes to see the "3D" effect (i have one daughter with one eye). So, until there's some kind of reverse-wiimote 3D thing, i won't be putting a buck on this tech
@johnvillar
I am sorry to hear about your daughters misfortune, and I'm not aiming this toward you and your daughter's situation, but personally I think that when someone dismisses a technology simply because of a very small group that can not experience it is selfish (again not directed at you, your post just made me think of it). It would be like dismissing game controllers with buttons on the left and right of it because people that are missing limbs cannot use it. Or taking away 3D movies because a small population can't see them.
I will be investing in something like this frame, but I hope for your daughters sake that someone does make a face tracking 3D frame in the future.
I wholeheartedly understand your situation, so please don't take my comment the wrong way. :)
@Chibi Chaingun No offense taken... i really like the 3D effect (i've been a fan since the original red-blue glasses), but it is just that, an effect where your brain gets tricked by a different but similar pair of images... what would be really cool is a face tracking photo frame, so it looks ok from far but when your face is near it it pops in 3D and lets you see the real 3D forms (however, no way i can imagine what tech would be needed to take those photos and/or videos)
@johnvillar
"So, until there's some kind of reverse-wiimote 3D thing,"

@johnvillar
I hope this isn't a double-post, I'm still getting used to this messaging system.
"So, until there's some kind of reverse-wiimote 3D thing, "
It exists:

@demmalition1 Yes, that's kind of what i'm talking about (however, without the gigantic ir necklace). There was a guy sometime ago that did the first demo on this with a room with bullseyes.... i believe he was contracted by microsoft. Imagine a Kinect bundled with a photoframe, that's more like it.
Wow. BTCC on Engadget? Score!
this thing can freaking my little brother!! he'll screaming when see the car out from that thing!! nd he will say "what the hell is that!? am i dreaming, i almost die, the car almost hit me!!"
Oh yes! British Touring Cars!
$400 That's a terrible
@sixtool
...For an HD 3D stereo camcorder and a glasses free 3D picture frame? Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
Its a dodgy little unit which is mass produced in China.
Sold all over the web up to 350EU!
Sure its cheap but it won't last. Mine lasted 3 months and warrantee is a bitch!
BTW sold all over the internet but not under Aiptek brand.
Did I mention mine lasted 3 monthe?!
Look at my other Blog comments to see that theres a group in CA claiming the media Player to be there own some months. Everyone's gonna get screwed by the Chinese incl. Aiptek I'm afraid.
