Microsoft says Kin software update is scheduled for mid-summer
We'd already heard some talk that Microsoft's Kin One and Kin Two phones might be in store for an update, and it looks like the phones will indeed be getting one sooner rather than later. While it remains to be seen if it will include those rumored IM improvements, a Kin support moderator has confirmed on the Microsoft Answers forum that an update is scheduled for "mid-summer," and that it will address "many" of the concerns laid out in the post that prompted the response. That included complaints about battery issues, a suggestion for improvements to the Twitter client (including replies and re-tweets), and a plea for YouTube support. The seemingly in-the-know Conflipper also backs up the inclusion of those Twitter updates, and says the Facebook app will also be updated to let folks view more than three pictures.

Someone actually bought this phone?
This is one of the ugliest little phones.
@iMack totally agree!!
I look at this phone as say WTF. does microsoft make anything of value anymore? i understand its not aimed at the smartphone crowd but why charge the same prices you could get for an iphone plan? Apple is in the news throughout the year for products consumers cant wait to get, when will microsoft get it through their stupid heads and make something appealing. i would seriously mock anyone over the age of 20 who owns this
@geo1378
Microsoft does not 'get it', and they won't start to 'get it' either. The biggest problem for MS is that consumers now 'get it'
I for one would be happy to see them fade away from the consumer end of technology.
WHOOO CARES?
Why would you want a square phone?
okay kin, the name like a chinesse food, , but i think it's good gadget. should microsoft sell kin with adorable prize, , $120 is enough, , hahahah it's sound impossible but it's the best way to against iPhone or Android!!
This phone is merely a failed attempt to venture into the teen iPhone-bearing crowd.
This phone is merely a failed attempt to venture into the teen iPhone-bearing crowd.
The idea of the KIN phones is so great...but first problem: not aviable in Europe and second problem: to expensive...i hope the include the KIN cloud system into WP7...
@bluefisch200 It might be easier to just go the other way around.
What i don't get why did Microsoft when with a Verizon with this phone and why Verizon accepted this phone?. the kin phones is like the sidekick, the kin should had come out with t-mobile, since t-mobile prices are way lower than Verizon.
In a world where there is 99$ iphone 3gs and everyone only caring about apps I don't see why the target audience for these phones would buy a kin, microsoft just give them apps like on the zune hd and open up the platform by a decent sdk and make the os snappy and usable for everyone not just teens so we could all justify the existence of these phones
@KhaledF And make not shitty hardware too. That thing is fugly and cheap feeling. Especially the latter.
@Dshark if they could make the kin two with a portrait slider like the palm pre but really thin and high quality same as the zune hd and sell it unlocked gsm under 400$ this could be their entry level windows phone unill 7 arrives
Looking at this makes me sick. Can they just kill it already?
Unless MS is going to be the maker and cell service provider, the cost of a wireless plan will doom this phone. Verizon is in no mood to sell data service for less than any other 3G phone they carry. The price of the data plan is what's keeping this phone from it's intended hands. Young people and families with limited resources. MS also needs to be concerned with slapping its brand name of these limited devices.
@TechBlogger A phone like the Kin is the reason Verizon needs a tiered data plan. With an 8 megapixel camera automatically uploading photos to the cloud, an active Kin user could easily suck up more bandwidth than a iPhone or Android user. However, for those that don't take a lot of photos and for those on a budget, you probably shouldn't be using a Kin in the first place, but if you like the features of the phone but aren't as "connected" as Microsoft/Verizon think you are (or should be), then a lower-tiered service would make a lot of sense.
the crappiest little phone you ever did see
This is a phone for teens. Relax haters.
@bluboi917
Teens want Android, iPhone or Blackberries. They also know how to use those phones even better than adults do. These are phones for teens in 2006. Now? These phones are just for people that do not know any better. Excellent job Microsoft!
It is the ugliest phone. Ever.
Who buys these phones? If met someone that was sporting this phone i would knock it out of their hand... There is ur upgrade... version 0.0
Will the update turn it into another phone?
Kin is an attempt to ease Apple's strength in iPhone market.
Same story with Zune...
MS just doesn't get consumer electronics. At least the got their sh-t together with Win7 :)
