Sega brings Twitter to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown arcade machines
Arcades may unfortunately be few and far between in North America these days, but they are still fairly big in Japan and, apparently, keeping up with the times. The latest big advance comes courtesy of Sega, which recently announced that its forthcoming Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown game will be Twitter-enabled -- a first for any arcade machine. That will let players link their Twitter account to their online VF.net profile and send a tweet whenever you hit a winning streak or mark another accomplishment -- like the fact that you're playing Virtua Fighter 5 in an arcade in Japan.

It's not like twitter isn't full of pointless crap already.
@(Unverified) Crap on Twitter? That's like saying there is Crap in the garbage bin.... :D

Because who don't love the Virtua Fighter...
sweet
VIRTUA FIGHTER > TEKKEN
This game requires actual skill rather than button crunching. I still suck at VF.
@kb24istrash VF is the best fighting series ever, but Tekken > Virtua Fighter because you don't have to fly to Japan to play the latest Tekken.
Will the arcade machine come with a slide out keyboard?? Entering your 3 letter name when you got a high score was pain-staking enough with just the joystick.... =/
@Plazmic Flame
All of your info is stored on a card you slide in before playing. It keeps track of your character and special unlocks. Remember: Japanese arcades continued to move into the future when the arcades in the US died.
@rbj What's an Arcade? :)
I should tweet about me taking a dump right now.
when i last went to an arcade (years and years ago) it was $1.00 a pop.
whats VF5 up to, $5?
@Killing Time
In las vegas at the nyny casino it was like $3 to play a single game of whatever the latest Tekken game is.
At least it had a nice 1080p screen though har har
Man I miss those days of chillin at the arcade playing virtua fighter and mortal kombat...FINISH HIM :)
OK, win coming out.
Who plays arcade games? Who actually even uses twitter for that matter?
@pfpflynn
Evidently people use it (twitter)
It hit 3.7 twitter updates (I refuse to say "tweets" in a message referring to twitter updates) PER SECOND yesterday during the world cup
I love Virtua Fighter.....when i'm drunk...and bored enough to dust off my sega saturn.
Go ahead and type your password on an arcade screen with all those prying eyes.
Or is a USB key thing? Or perhaps those paper ID cards like the Initial D arcade?
Oh and what did I miss, why is the Engadget logo green?
@HektikLyfe I think you'll find it's because this is an .alt article...
