Sprint lines up Epic 4G against the competition, likes its chances
In case you needed any more evidence that Samsung's Epic 4G for Sprint is probably going to be awesome, you might take a gander at the competitive analysis they've prepared against the iPhone 4, Droid Incredible, and Droid X as an ego-boosting checklist for reps prepping to sell the phone in the coming weeks. The DLNA support trumpeted, but HDMI's notably missing -- something its EVO 4G sibling has -- and it'll be up to customers to decide whether 4-inch Super AMOLED is better than 4.3-inch LCD. Unsurprisingly, the Epic will "feature" the same $10 data surcharge that the EVO has, something that we're guessing is going to end up being phased in over Sprint's entire smartphone lineup over time -- you know, kind of like those delivery service "fuel surcharges" that end up becoming permanent after a while. Anyhow, the Epic looks killer on paper, but if anything, the chart only underscores how incredibly stiff its competition is going to be. Choice is good, is it not?

Where are the good AT&T android phones?
epic indeed.
@Cainhunpi They are supposedly getting a version of the Galaxy X, but I agree, there's very limited android on AT&T which makes me sad. I like options. DO YOU HEAR ME DEATHSTAR?
@TheTechLife Galaxy S not X. Fail
@Cainhunpi
See that was an oxymoron there, you said AT&T and good Android phones in the same sentence.
It doesn't quite count if the so called "good" android options that are available for AT&T are also available on nearly every other carrier. (This Samsung device and the Nexus 1)
@Cainhunpi
samsung phone looks good on paper but that ui... give us the option for stock android please
@Cainhunpi Nexus One: no contract, unlocked, usable worldwide, will get 2.2. With the hardware and usability are more of the same, software updates is more important than the spec.
@Cainhunpi
Att is getting the sanding capacitive.
Which is their verison of the galaxy x
@TheTechLife If you ever looked at your keyboard, the S is right above the X, so its an easy typo. at least he had something worthwhile to say.
@marsel LOL, didnt notice you where replying to yourself. sorry. at least i stood up for you! lol
@Cainhunpi
Epic for the Win
@marsel
Not to be rude but you must not be able to read
He was correctig HIMSELF
@marsel way to post 2 useless comments and make a fool of yourself on one of Time Magasine's Best Blogs of 2010 =)
@TheTechLife
Unfortunately, the Captivate will be the only Galaxy S phone with side-loading disabled which is kind of a deal breaker. It'd be nice to wrong on this one.
@Slick
Does it really matter if every other carrier has the same phone? That really doesn't degrade the actual phone itself. This is one of the things I like about the Galaxy S phones. Gives it a better chance of being updated.
@marsel
Nvm you corrected yourself. My internets are slow
@Cainhunpi
Anyone see the fact that the Epic has both streaming over DLNA and a movie store "coming soon"? How cool is that?!
Evo and Epic, a match made in heaven.
@Cainhunpi They don't exist , I think they do it on purpose
@DefPoet
That's irony if I've ever seen it. rofl
@Cainhunpi
AT&T and Android is like trying to mix oil and water.....
@Cainhunpi : Chris can we have a link to that comparison sheet? (my eyes, my eyes!)
@Cainhunpi Well you can get the Nexus One for AT&T but not at a contract discount. The Samsung Galaxy S is coming soon called the Captivate with a 4" SAMOLED, which looks really good on paper so far.
@jayjaync I love when people who can't spell make fun of others' posts.
@Mike10010100 Not only have I noticed, but I've used it. Also, the great thing about the Epic is it's codec and file format support:
*Video codecs*
mpeg4
H.264
H.263
Sorenson codec
DivX HD/ XviD
VC-1
*Video formats*
3GP (MPEG-4)
WMV (Advanced Systems Format)
AVI (divx)
MKV
FLV
@Cainhunpi no where, apple signed a contract with att so they could cripple anything that competes with the iphone
@Cainhunpi
Specs isn't everything, that "chart" is so damn bias it's funny.
@Cainhunpi Everyone watch this. Evo 4G vs. iPhone 4. It's funny as hell

@livefree
It's called advertising.
@Cainhunpi reminds me of "where have all the good men gone and where are all the Gods" LOL
@Cainhunpi
Since when CDMA based phones are better than GSM ??? that really sucks.
@HipHopIsLyfe37
That was possibly the funniest video I have ever seen!!
It's sooooooo true, too.
xD
@Cainhunpi On Sprint or Verizon.
@One Love
Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with them for posting this without a link or an expandable fucking image! I really wanna read this and the fact that there was no link angered me more than it should have, as you can tell by my exclamation points!!!
WTF you said it was funny. Go get some seeds put them in your head and grow a F brain.
@HipHopIsLyfe37
hillarious
@Cainhunpi
Time and time again, there's the old post that AT&T explicitly stated that iPhone was top of the line in their line up and people are to start with Android as the lower end starter phone and eventually upgrade to the iPhone. Apple needs this to keep it's price a premium too (not the 32GB iPhone 4 was what 299? not 199! like the EVO for example). Toyota follows this strategy with their Lexus line.
Hence, there will never be a better Android phone in their line up--it's their strategy and WHY they have a exclusive agreement with Apple.
As long as Apple spends more advertising than its competitors, it will continue to build more market share as the market grows. Works just like politics: just ask Meg Whitman or Mike Bloomberg.
Verizon and Sprint know they have a superior line up, but they rather let the lineup fall on it's merit than spend $$$ on ads. And the budget for the Droid ads shows if they spend the ad cash, they can compete. T-mobile, appears to be comfortable as second fiddle to the big 3 for some odd (they could dominate with HSPA+) reason.
@Cainhunpi
Apple is suing AT&T for Bait and Switch gouging practices. It was shown on a Mac Website and AOL news, when they changed their Data plans and went against the customers.
Each company has a few hundred of ways they can sue each-other, but NFP lawyers have thousands:)
@Cainhunpi
Galaxy S vs iPhone: http://briefmobile.com/apple-iphone-4-vs-samsung-galaxy-s
GOOO Samsung! Glad to see this phone (kind of) on five major carriers.
@Cainhunpi Y'know you could just have said "Where are the good android phones?" and it would still be accurate.
The big screen feature is subjective. When I buy a phone, I want a phone, not a brick (literally in the case of the EVO) that won't go in my pocket.
The iPhone does have video output too.
@sinistersai4d Totally agree. I clicked the picture, and was brought to the comment section. I clicked again, nothing.
Pretty weak sausage.
@Cainhunpi
just a sec now. that table mentions that the iPhone4's processor is at 1GHz!! has this been confirmed?
@Cainhunpi
Am I supposed to be able to read this picture? It's tiny. Where's the original?
@Frogboy ADB install isn't hard at all if you have Windows (so you don't have to navigate through folders), and let's face it if you are going to sideload apps you will probably be an advanced user and will know how to do it.
Evo ftw
@victorvelasco1
LMAO
@victorvelasco1 That data is inaccurate. iPhone 4 doesn't have 1Ghz processor or 1200mAh battery. Evo ftw!
@victorvelasco1
I HATE b*llsh*t charts.
In the plan comparisons I LOVE how they pin one of Sprints cheapest plans against one of AT&T & Verizon's most expensive.
Lets compare PROPERLY
- Most Expensive Consumer Level Plans-
Sprint:
Unlimited Talk / Unlimited Text / Unlimited Data - $99.99
Premium Data - $10
TOTAL - $109.99 p/m
AT&T:
Unlimited Talk - $69.99
Unlimited Text - $20
2GB Data - $25
TOTAL - $114.99
Verizon:
Unlimited Talk / Unlimited Text - $89.99
Unlimited Data - $29.99
TOTAL - $119.98
T-Mobile (w/ contract & without):
Unlimited Talk / Unlimited Text / Unlimited Data - $99.99 / $79.99
TOTAL - $99.99 / $79.99
As you can see T-Mobile is busting *ss with it's plans (but no highly desired phones) ... Sprint has the "edge" on it's biggest competition by at MOST $10 but NOT as big of a gap as it was trying to portray in it's chart. It's all a matter of preference & folk must also consider which provider has better coverage in their area. It would suck *ss to have a buy device but get little to no coverage where you live.

Awww well. If telling the truth is overshadowed by undesired networking I apologize. I'll bite that bullet, just hope folk choose to "view comment" & read a lil truth. Later.
