Pages for iPhone gets a full walkthrough
We've been seeing hints here and there that the iPad versions of Apple's iWork apps will eventually trickle down to the iPhone and iPod touch, and now it looks like we've got some definitive proof: 9to5 Mac has published a thorough screenshot walkthrough of Pages. As you'd expect, it looks a lot like a smaller version of Pages for the iPad, but there are some interesting tidbits here and there: all documents sync over the air with all your iOS devices, there's integration with the oft-forgotten iWork.com, and you can export in .doc and PDF in addition to Pages format. Interesting stuff, to say the least -- hit the read link for the complete set of shots.

@ruby
Really? well I could make calls in 1969 from a rotary phone so your argument is invalid.
@Jack
Your rotary phone probably had better reception too.
@ruby
Funny. The first Treo came out in 2002.
You never had a Treo, did you? You just said you did cos some other people on the internet said they had one, and how awesome they were, so you decided to try jump on the bandwagon, eh?
So I wonder who's getting fired today.
Fairly useful. More for editing on the fly than document creation I would think though.
@MarkAnderson Or throwing down a draft of a document for later editing on a larger screen.
Anyone else think that Apple will be releasing a new version of the iPhone on LTE with a new IOS 5 that has full cloud support for iTunes and docs? IOS 5 + Chrome OS / Android = death of the internal hard drive in < 2 years.
@morgul97
I think that's eventually coming, but I don't think it will be in 2011 because none of the carriers' LTE networks will be mature enough for Apple's standards. I think it will be 2012 with iOS 6 at earliest.
Welcome to the 21st century iOS.
@ObsceneJesster
Pages is an app, it has nothing to do with the OS. Nice try though?
Typing documents on that luscious 3.5" screen is going to be heavenly.
I hope that the syncing over the air with all iOS devices is true because it would be easy for people with more than one iOS device to edit and create documents.

Loving the fanboys:
iPhone getting iWork: Who the fuck would want THAT!? Who writes documents on a phone!?
Evo getting quickoffice: Oh, kewl! Will be able to edit documents on the go, while commuting etc, Loving and hugging my Evo! (YES, there are comment like that on here)
Priceless hypocrites.
@magadget sad but I see the same hypocrisy at forums all over
@magadget
I assure you, I've never said "Oh, kewl!" about anything, even Evo getting quickoffice.
Anyway, true Apple fanboys would love anything that iPhone gets, including iWork.
@zangetsu2
Oh wait, you meant Evo fanboys.
@magadget
Josh said it best on the Engadget show; people get offended when you talk about something other than their device, as if it's a slight on their personality.
All the hate mail he got for saying the Iphone 4 was the best smartphone; just shows you how pathetic, small-minded, immature and twattish some people are. Yeah, you got an EVO, and it's only the 2nd best phone in the world. Big fucking deal.
@suicidebob
Not "some people"--- Computer geeks, specifically. Most people are totally fine. The people on this site, however, need to get laid. Badly.
@Wesscoast
*psst!* Guess which site you're on!
Maybe it's for reviewing and editing! God, some of you are such irrational haters. What do you care if they release Pages for iPhone? Would you rather NOT have options? Don't buy it, if you don't like it! But then don't complain that iOS devices are just consumption devices.
iPhone app released.
Looks what's in my pocket! (an iPhone)
Which is heavier: iPhone or rock?
iPhone or rock: which is more useful as a phone?
iPhone spotted in the wild.
New pictures of iPhone taken by an iPhone.
It's not a matter of writing a paper on your iphone, it's a matter of being able to do anything that sounds cool on your iphone..
I already have and use docs2go on the iPhone, I welcome this because it might give me a better alternative for quick on the fly document editing, but I'm sorry I won't interrupt your rant anymore.
Excellent example Tpoccu
I hope it just doesn't require the a4 chip. I want this soooooooo bad on my iPod!
Going forward I wonder which version Apple will sell more of, iWorks for OSx or iWorks for iOS? hmm.., First iWorks, then iMovie, anyone else seeing the writing on the wall?
RIP OSX.
@rwalrond
PCs (in this case Macs) are like trucks... they'll never die 100%, but you won't need them as much as you used to.
Since OS X (which is the basis for iOS) is just going to be renamed iOS Desktop, it's not going anywhere anytime soon. Mac sales keep growing, Smart guy.
@Wesscoast You got to ask yourself, what would Apple do? if I'm Apple, i'm making a boat load of Money selling iPhones, iTouch and iPads. The hardware in those machines cost me a fraction of what it cost for the hardware in say, the iMac. I'm selling millions and millions of Apps, how can I expand on this? hmmmm, maybe I'll start creating some productivity apps for the iOS, which would be enough for 90% of my target customers. Then I relegate OSx to the higher end market and updated it every other year. Next I release a brand new iMac using my brand new A4 Processor with a razor thin design because I can get rid of all that other intel horsepower crap that my new iOS apps just don't need. Then I re-introduce these same productivity apps perhaps label them Pro, so iWorks-Pro works on the iOS desktop iMAC and does a little more than my iPad version. Guess what? I'll sell the iMACs for the same price as today but it will cost me less to produce! Now every piece of software on the iMAC has to come from my store. I can sync results between iDevices, the world is a better place. No viruses or malware and most importantly NO FLASH!
If I were Apple, that would be my plan. OSx may not be completely killed, but chances are you won't get it on anything but high end MACS.
So...i can type up my 5 paragraph essay thats due in 30 minutes in the car on the way to class, email it to myself and print it in the library before the bell rings?
Win.
@kaynnn
You could actually. That's a good example of what something like Pages would be useful for.
Theres some shocking lining up of the graphics for bold, italics and underline, and then the paragraph alignment icons. Looks very amateur to me!
I've heard that iWork was useless on the iPad. WP7 Office looks better
@Hopper6
Imaginary products are always better than the real ones
This would be great for me as I write songs and writing in notes is crap
How do I use this without holding my phone? And if I'm holding the phone how do I use it as a phone since I have No Service?
@MuahMan
About the same way as using an Evo as a phone when the screen is separating and it bricks from an update.
Looks like a crappy mock-up. No rounded edges, no consistency, poor phrasing. I'd stitch this up in Intreface Builder within an hour.
And tell me do you have to put your hand in a certain way to be able to get Pages to work without offending Apple on how I use the phone?
@sirexilon
Only if you're some kind of idiot.
and only available for....iPhone4 iPod touch 3rd gen! NOOOOOOO! apple bastards! What you couldn't see apple doing that, cause I coiuld
I returned my iPhone because it was broken. It disconnected calls and lost service if I held it. Then it would mysteriously mute people or start a video chat because the accelerometer was broken as well. So what good does his software do me on a phone that doesn't work?
What I find truly interesting is the syncing. Everything wants to sync or use cloud based calls for their data while AT&T and the other wireless providers all want to back off their unlimited data plans. Where does all that end?
