Samsung announces rugged Xcover handset with 67-day standby time
Prefer your cellphone to be more tough than smart? Then you might want to give Samsung's new Xcover E2370 handset a bit of consideration. While it may not be ideally suited for much more than calls or the odd text message, it is fully ruggedized and IP54-certified for dust and splash resistance, and it boasts an impressive 67-day standby time (and 22-hour talk time) to ensure it lasts throughout your next arduous expedition (or regular business trips, as the case may be). Still no indication of a release over here, but the phone should be rolling out across Europe next month for just under $100.

will it last that long then the cup it?
(when you cup it) :facepalm:
what?
@Coke Imagine the dirty things you could do with this phone!! its so rugged!! i like i want..
@Coke
OMIGAWD SAMSUNG BOUGHT THE RIGHTS TO THE NOKIA BAR STYLE!1!1!!1!!!!!!!!1!11!!!!!!!
Oh, I thought it might hold 69-days standby
Who would have thought.
A consumer product doing well what it was actually designed to do becomes a niche in it's own market.
Well done Samsung for thinking inside the box for once.
@Tegdagne Finally a real phone!
If this comes to North America with our 3G bands for AT&T/Rogers, I will definitely pick it up. Will be great for when I travel.
@Plazmic Flame
It's build to make calls. 2G is all you need.
@SeeKo Eh, at least on Australia's networks 3G will often have much improved reception as compared to 2G.
What's the right way to hold this phone?
@DefPoet
Between your buttch... between your knees.
@DefPoet The left way.
A battery that can call and write messages?! I bet if you plug it into some hybrid car it would ride for miles!
Well it's definitely more useful than the Wildfire.
this battery is impressive, even though I won't buy it, I will surely recommend it to people that need the extra miles.
Those rugged Nokia and Samsung phones serve their purpose well in construction!
I love going on long treks/hikes and i can clearly see the utility of this phone. Thanks you Samsung :)
Wow, I want one! You know...just in case...
Ever heard of the SONIM phones ? They beat the Samsung hands down in every respect. Pricey, sure, but if you want something that can take a beating and keep on gabbing....
@SeanRW
But they are pricey....
@SeanRW
Not in every case, in the last year a local (hungarian) website made a stress test Samsung B2100 vs Sonim XP3, and the Samsung was surprising good

Just don't try hitting it against the side of a fishtank. (google 'unbreakable phone')
But... will it blend?
@Cocconut Monkey Everything blends... with a big enough blender.
That would have been a perfect phone back in the days when I was in the military service. Especially during winter months it was no easy task to keep the phone running for a week's visit into the woods.
Yay, a phone that makes calls AND lasts 67 days on standby! YES! For some people (majority of the world), this is what they want.
A phone's main priority is to make a CALL!
Holy cow, this phone has a 2000mah battery.

Battery on most Android smartphones are only 1500mah.
Nothing about those cutesy icons says 'business' or 'tough'. It's like putting pink zebra seat covers in your Ford F-350.
this is a big coin for me
I need to get one of these for my cousin. Somehow she manages to go through several phones each year.
Anyone know if there is a CDMA variant?
I'm looking for a CDMA phone (maybe one with GSM capabilities too) that is a simple and effective call/txt phone for my fiancee. No keyboard. No touch screen. good ol' T9. Suggestions??
Thanks.
Does anyone use a normal touch screen smart phone for daily functions and something like this for times when you know you might be rough on your gear? I've been thinking about it.
Compared to the previous Samsung B2100 model it's just a small upgrade, I would like to see some more, like the a visible screen in direct sunlight (AMOLED, Pixel Qi, etc.), a built-in FM antenna (already available in some chinese phone), (not Samsung) standard headphone and USB connector (at least 2.0 speed) and some basic GPS functionality (just for trekking, not for car navigation). Unfortunately the other "consumer" rugged phones (Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, the Motorola and Casio rugged phones are not really available in Europe) are just weaker, semi-rugged ones, like the SE C702
Is it bad that I like this simple little phone?
I love it, I think it's great. I gave up my iPhone and went back to a normal phone. My only complaint is that I can't take it out in the rain and I'm afraid to talk to it while biking for fear of dropping it. This phone should solve those problems, and hopefully have quad band so I can use it internationally. I'm sold, $100 for a forever phone is a steal!
