Eldar Murtazin has a pretty decent track record when it comes to smartphone whispers, but his
Android 3.0 Gingerbread morsels yesterday are now at odds with someone a bit closer to the dough -- namely, Dan Morrill, Android's Open Source and Compatibility Tech Lead (yeah, that's a bit of a mouth full). Here are a few highlights from his Twitter feed tonight: "I love it when people just make stuff up" (sarcasm, obviously), "rumors are not official announcements," and so on. Sure, he could just be playing coy here, but for now, this is more or less the final word on the matter -- until either Google or the rumor mill heat up again, of course. Guess that's how the, erm, cookie crumbles.
He lies like Steve.
@bighap
He tastes like Steve.
@Dafrety
I bet you would know...
@bighap lying is not the same as hiding information
@Dafrety
ewww
@Dafrety
so do i, strangely enough.
Sent from Steve's arse
and a big down-rank to oblivion for you all
@bighap
lying is better than nutting up apparently. Wheres my bumper case steve. :/. Shows discontent.
@laxic
And an even bigger one to you, asshole.
Does this mean if they don't deny rumors in the future that they're true? Is it only Apple's policy to not comment on rumor and speculation, because it seems like Google could stand to take their advice. This will only cause more problems for them.
@scioncas
Dont say that in front of women or you will be alone for the rest of your life.
@Dafrety He tastes like Steve.
Waidaminute... This doesn't taste like gingerbread
It tastes more like S....
I STILL BELIEVE IN GINGERBREAD!!!
@bighap
OOPS! Murtazin got smacked by Google too - now whats he gonna do? whats he gonna do? Lemme guess.....He will come out and start screaming that the next Android handset (and all other after that) is an unadulterated POS. lol
Maybe the Symbian-guru fella and Eldar need to form an alliance and create a tech blog called Androidisf**ckedandSymbiansux.com
Gizmodo can be their 1st official sponsor followed closely by Engadget. 100% win-win situation as MBAs like to say ;-)
@bighap
Why do we have to guess or wait for leaks to know where an "open" project is going?
What does "open" mean here?
@scioncas yes it is.
That's called a lie by omission.
Hopefully the whole revamped UI isn't made up. I'd really love to see Android get a refresher. I'd really like a certain other mobile platform get a refresh too, but I doubt that would be as likely.
@Dafrety it won't. the ui thing is for sure but the new resolution would rock but is not for sure.
@Dafrety
Why change perfection?
android isn't perfect however. IF there's a major UI overhaul I for one would be interested to see what the final product would look like.
@Dafrety These rumors have been around for at least 3 months, it's not news. I think there is a lot of substance to it, and that it'll help prevent some of the issues that are in Android, improving it's long-term viability as a stand-alone product supported by app development. It'd encourage more OEMs to do things like LG which is try to make exclusive app markets while keeping the OS upto date, rather than making a unique UI, which would evolve the system and competition a bit. We'd all be better off this way, so it's hard for the Android team to resist, with WP7 coming out with a streamlined approach Android.
HTC might keep doing a Sense thing on some percentage of it's smartphones, but it would allow options for consumers, while we can hope that the rest would just try to keep up with Google's updates. Here's hoping they do so, while supporting the OS for longer.
@wtfapple no. The new resolution is happening. HTC has been making it to rival Samsung's Super Amoled screen. We'll see it by the end of the year most likely.
@EggoEspada
HTC buys screens from Samsung though. Who are they supposed to be sourcing these new high res ones from then?
@Dafrety
Maybe LG or Sharp.
@Goc
One of those would definitely make sense.
@BrookLynnsFinest
Why? So you could talk shit about how much it sucks compared to your iToy?
It took Apple four years to add copy/paste, and a decent camera. Android has gone from the G1 to the Evo and Droid X in 18 months. Given four years of development on Android and no one will give a shit about Apple's "incremental" upgrades anymore.
@Dafrety
Probably Sony, heard they are starting to make IPS screens and HTC is already tapping them for alternative screens for the Desire and Incredible due to supply problems with Samsung.
@Eli Haj
OMG your right. March 17th, 2009.
21 months to "revolutionize" the industry with some truly ground-breaking shit.
When my ass was 19 years old I changed the face of Professional Baseball.
@Dafrety Sony, too. They make some kind of Super LCD, and it's been said that HTC might supply that when they have shortage of amoled.
Who can resist some tasty Gingerbread :) ?
That's what she said.... did I mention she is fat?
@Robhimself
If she's fat, then we don't care what she said..... for all we know she could have farted.... ¬_¬
Well, judging from the gingerbread music player, at least some of the rumor is true.
So, Gingerbread will be 3.0, not 2.3? Will 2.2 be the last update for 2.x?
@pika2000
Looks like it...Gingerbread will be 3.0 and every update after that will be 4.0, 5.0 etc. most likely because they're moving to a 1 update per year system. Which is good IMO. They could release 3.x versions with minor updates but what do I know.
@Rick Astley
Never gonna vote you down.
@Rick Astley
Never gonna say goodbye.
@rawbros
Steve Jobs will never tell a lie.
@Kenny Fn Powers Or hurt yoooou.
Whoa, Neowin is a source! Haven't seen that in ages. But I'm sure the Q4 phones will blow our minds. Moore's law be treatin us well.
Lol
I guess you could say
*puts on sunglasses*
This all seems a little crumby....
@vinnydakid
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
@devildrifterx
WE WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN!!!!! haahaha get it?
Wow, that android sure likes his gingerbread....
this is anti news. reporting that something that may not have been true is not true :) \o/
@AstroSeven
>.<
LOL
Some of the rumors may have been a little enhanced for dramatic effect, but I'm inclined to believe they're mostly true. Morrill is just trying to sustain the suspense like Steve Job was, denial is the most natural reaction in that situation rather than saying - yep, that's exactly what we're doing.
I'm sure the revamped UI and the new 1280x760 resolution which were the main and most important new features are true. It makes perfect sense too, especially the resolution.
Off-topic I want a 4.5" 1280x720 Motorola-build Nexus Two for Christmas, please Google?
@Yankee
I want a 1024x768 9.7 inch iPod touch with 3G for when I leave the house... Wait a minute...
I hope one of those rumors was the rumor that there's a 1GHz requirement... I want my Droid to have 3.0...
Or at least 2.2..............
Dont pull a Steve Morrill!
