thats 2 and a half nooks... yikes.
Other then changing the contrast, there is not that much difference between this and the K2 model. I'm really hoping they step it up with the 6''. Almost 18 months for a refresh and we should be seeing something (Library feature, pen input, something.) innovating. They are already behind in features on many of the other ereader.

A slew of coverage at the end of May said the Kindle 3 would be thinner and have a better and more responsive display.
i rather buy i pad, although i hate apple, but this is a robbery for colorless device.

I'm sure the 50% improved contrast is an optical illusion due to the dark frame ;-)
I was expecting the Kindle 3 by now I hope this isn't it. I want to see something with a touchscreen to get rid of all that keyboard space and add better notes and highlighting. Basically something that will be competitive with the skiff and que proreader (when they eventually come out)
Would like one if Chinese books were available.
Does this have a better screen than the *existing* white DX? Amazon are being a bit coy here - they say 50% better contrast, but don't find space to say what it's 50% better than.

There is word of a new vizplex screen that's supposed to have a 12:1 contrast ratio, as compared to the Kindle 2's and original DX's 7:1 contrast ratio.
But you're right, we don't know from the Amazon ad copy.

That aside, it's still very expensive. We have one, and love the extra real estate on the DX version. It really is a fantastic reading device and perfect for trips and vacations. That said, right now, I'd probably hold out for the Kindle 3. It's more portable and will have a better E-Ink display.

I bought by K2i back in February for $259. I love it but if the DX had only been a hundred dollars more at the time I'd have bought it in a second...
If they'd make one where the entire screen didn't flash when you change the page, I'd pay whatever they want.

Yes, the wireless is known to be more expensive there so it's said that the books all cost $2 more just about everywhere outside the U.S.
But last month and slightly before the mostly text Basic Web browser was unofficially enabled and made available in Germany, probably because of the new feature to send passages from a book you're reading to Facebook or Twitter on the fly from wherever you are, along w/ a short intro note. Before that happened they'd included free Wikipedia from a book page since October '09 in the U.S. and from January in other countries.

It has free 3G in 100 countries and now free web browsing (slowly and mainly mobile-device optimized websies) in about 60 countries.
