of kids want an iPad
The Nielsen Company presented a cadre of individuals with a list of nice, shiny gadgets and let them cross off anything and everything they'd like to buy in the next six months, and 31 percent of kids 6-12 picked the iPad as one of them.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
nice!
@skyblaze jeez...beat me out by miliseconds!!
@skyblaze
I like it. Keep it simple yet sophisticated.
@serge
Agreed, just the info you want at a glance. Nicely done Engadget
@skyblaze
I think this might ruin some stuff for engadget. I liked getting an idea of the product and judging it myself.
Now we are all gonna be focusing on these numbers and using them as fanboy cards to success and failure
@corylulu
It makes me happy inside.
@skyblaze I think the color scheme is slightly off though... the best stuff is in the yellow/orange and the bad stuff is in the green... This isn't the terror alert list engadget!
@skyblaze Give out Red Cards!
@corylulu well, we are all the techie-geeky kind of person around here, it will give us a little preview of what's to come, but honestly, I read the entire review even if the scores are at the beginning, and I think most of us do...
(and also helps lazy people get a quick idea...^_^)
@corylulu yea, i dont see why a g1 is better than a droidx. isnt the g1 still on like 1.5?
@huskie fluff
G1 is on 1.6
And the Droid X should get WAY better reviews than a 7/10
I had a G1 and I'm sorry, but all the other high end phones are SOOO much better than it.
@skyblaze
I just watched the entire video review of the Droid X and it was glowing. Where do they get 7/10? The rating system is just going to expose Engadget's biases more openly which I am all for.
@corylulu
That's the point. Engadget posts flame bait for page clicks. This is one more way to fan the flames.
@skyblaze
No mention of the automatic 10/10 scores given to products that originate from Cupertino? I would think Engadget should disclose that in this write-up. If everyone already knows upfront that Engadget will give perfect scores to Apple products (past, present and future) it will probably reduce the whining later.
Can't wait to see those retroactive grades.
@skyblaze Iphone's 9/10 score indicated with RED? Must be bad then...
4/10 score means GREEN!! Must be good then!
Seriously... :D
@skyblaze : I feel sorry for the intern that had to go back and score all those products. :)
@skyblaze
I don't think its nice at all.. first of all, everyone on this site reviews differently.. mostly Apple happy, and way too high of standards / demands. This is not CNET.
I think the idea is great, but not the best. Actually, I prefer it how it was.
From a conclusive stand point, I guess it will be great for those who want to know the opinion of engadget more clearly. But lessens the ability for readers to make their own conclusion because yours is even so much more on the forefront.
Anandtech used to have a rating system like this years back but got rid of it in favor of what engadget used to previously. I didnt like it at first but now I realize that I like to make my own conclusions from the information that you guys gather.
Just my two cents...
@corylulu
Granted yes the Droid X may merit higher than 7/10, but did you read the post? You're complaining about a concise overview yet you didn't read Quote:" That means that the G1 can have a higher rating than the Droid X, even though right now it's obvious that the Droid X is a superior phone. The Droid X is being reviewed now, and the G1 was reviewed then. "
Unless you were trying to be ironic. Then I apologize.
AMAZING how well the Apple products did compared to everything else...
@skyblaze I give this post an 8/10 - great article with few flaws.
@corylulu You have to remember that these scores (and reviews) are relative to when they were released. That the G1 got a higher score than the Droid X doesn't mean the G1 is a better phone *right now* (or else Engadget would have to perpetually expand the scores to infinity).
@Engadget
You should consider putting the full retail price on there as well. So that the readers have a reference of the real value of the phone (or what the manufacturer thinks it is). But more importantly so that the future owner has a perspective of how much the carrier will take out of his/her pocket on contract to subsidize the device.
You guys need to put a date on these and put in an algorithm that starts lowering the score by a point or a half point every two months or so. No way the G1 would score an 8 these days if the Droid X only scored a 7... When it hits zero you can call it "Obsolete".
@MayorBloomberg
I do realize that. But I still think that Droid X is at least a 8/10
I would actually say its just as good as the Evo 4G, just has a more specific audience.
@skyblaze
all apple review get like 9/10 lol
@corylulu
Can we assume a 8-10 scorecard rating for all things Apple?
@SeeKo
Full retail price (unsubsidized)
Subsidized price and typical plans as well would be nice.
I will say though, this is inviting a $#!t ton of flaming and trolling
@skyblaze
Based on the review it got, I would at least expect the Droid X to get a 8/10 at least. The review doesn't matches with the Score Card. The HTC ARIA and HD Mini got a 7/10. Does the score mean they are about the same qaulity as the Droid X ? This doesnt seem fair.
Im not saying it should get better than the score it got based on my opinion, Im talking about based on the review it received which was real positive. Chris said it was close to being the best Android phone ever made. WTF 7/10. ?
@Dig Deep I think you need to include review date, or date that the phone was released. Otherwise how to compare the G1 to the Droid X when all we have are the rating values? Otherwise glad to see
What's the point f doing reviews when three quarters of the writers are bias to apple? Everything that ever comes out is always compared to an apple product.
/rant
@skyblaze Woohoo evo got a 9, would be nice to have updated cards with dates to show how each OTA improves the device.
@okok only Apple Fanboys bought i
Because it was revolutionary at the time.
It was the first phone to be able to go head to head with the iPhone. But really it was a developers playtoy more so.
But honestly, so long as its Android, you will hate it. You hate everything besides your perfectly scored WP7 Phone.
Oh wait, you dont have one because you have backed a phone OS that hasn't even hit the market yet.
@corylulu
People need to remember that reviews are a "snapshot" in time.
@skyblaze There are always issues with numbers-based reviews. Case in point, leaving aside idea that the iPhone is "nearly perfect," the Incredible and the X are contemporary phones coming out only a few months apart. Yet the Incredible is plagued with a tiny battery and has a smaller screen than the X. Sure, the Incredible has Sense, but that's really it, and is Sense seriously enough to go to the X? I doubt it. Clearly, the X should at least be evenly ranked with the Incredible.
And, the iPhone is "nearly perfect?" Please.
@skyblaze
3/10 for Kin One. lol
@corylulu
Agreed this is a very very bad idea and doesn't give enough credit to the intelligence of us the readers.
Scoring can be very arbitrary as well. For example with the Droid X, does the phone get credit for having Google Turn by Turn Navigation as a feature? That's a huge feature that can not be understated. One that brings a better experience than stand alone GPS units that cost $500 or more. Shouldn't users now about such a huge feature...yet it's not mentioned at all in the Droid X review. Google maps has received several signicficant updates over the past 6 months and yet Engadget fails to mention this feature at all in the review.
These scores will be very bad and are totally unnecessary. Especially when a company like Apple prides itself on setting the talking points for features that it thinks can give it an edge over competitors. For example, the new screen. Only now are reviewers comparing screens to the iPhone as the "gold standard". Where the hell where you people when all the Android phones were coming out with displays that you could not see the pixels and great resolutions??? Yet now Apple has set that bar to be measured against....and reviewers are silly enough to take the bait.
@Bobbo
Agreed
There wasn't a great debate when the Droid and Nexus One came out with higher resolutions and never set a new standard.
No1 really remembers that the Nexus One was way ahead of the game when it first came out. and i mean WAY ahead. But for some reason, it didn't get a score like that.
The past reviews seem to not really be on the same reviewing bar as current. Nexus One was revolutionary in January, but now its just bleh. Too bad it was the new standard of phones past that point.
@skyblaze so a phone with a recognised design flaw which means that a lot of people can't actually use it as a phone gets 9/10?
seriously?
I am _stunned_ that the iPhone4 is a 9/10.
Assuming that you _never_ give out a 10/10, you've awarded the highest possible score to a phone with a glaring antennae issue.
Can you please elaborate on how you're choosing these numbers?
@rkan
9/10? I'm surprised it wasn't 11/10. With all due respect.to the Engadget polling system....
@skyblaze The best way to read reviews. Especially when I don't feel like reading a full one.
@Joseph Mama
Let see,
Droid X gets a 7/10 because it has a UI not to their taste (which is changeable) and Android 2.1 at launch with an upgrade coming later
iPhone gets a 9/10 because it has major antenna issues, proximity sensor issues, screen yellowing issues, and a refusal for a free case due to the antenna issue from Apple themselves, and a potential class action lawsuit at hand.
I would say that the 8/10 for both would have been more expectable. but Apple products seem to be getting a free pass for these issues.
But GOD FORBID Droid X Launches with 2.1 and wont see an upgrade for about a WHOLE MONTH or 2.
@corylulu Plus, why is the Droid X getting reviewed like its a camera.
@skyblaze I agree about adding dates btw.
Could you also add a 'Joshua Topolski' indicator on his review cards so we can manually remove two points for Apple products?
@skyblaze
I approve.
@bjsguess The iPhone deserves 4/10 for not being able to make phone calls :P
@serge Bullshit.. meaning you wrote that whole sentence in a millisecond?
@corylulu
I don't want someone thinking and doing the pros and cons for me but again this is no too much. They just give us the info on what they think about the product and we judge it ourselves!
@skyblaze
I'm done with the apple biased BS 7/10 for X and 9/10 for i4? ??
