Well, it looks like Droid Incredible owners might soon be rewarded with more than a $25 gift card -- Droid Life is reporting that the phone is set to get an OTA update that will add some of the most oft-requested features. That includes mobile hotspot functionality, 720p video recording and, last but not least, the familiar Droid red eye boot animation that's been curiously absent. No word on a rollout date just yet, but Droid Life's tipster has provided some pics, and a video of that boot sequence (check it out after the break).

With the X being the new top of the line Android phone on Verizon, when are they going to drop the price of the Incredible? I know they are giving that $25 refund for Incredible owners that are still waiting on their headsets, but I still think the device itself should be cheaper than the X which runs $200.
I am still not sold on the size of the X, so if that one ends up being too big, the Incredible might be a better option... and if I could save some money, that would be even better.
I really like the current boot animation. No frills.

In my opinion, you shouldn't be allowed to make a device with 720p video recording without it having an HDMI out. I would really like to see an HDMI become a standard feature on every Android smartphone. Boggles my mind that Moto will release the Droid X with one, and a month later release the Droid 2 without.
@ckeegan Hdmi out on a phone? This world is crazy, and they need to flaw the whole design of the phone to add another port
@That guy 2 You do know that they're already doing HDMI out on phones, right? The EVO has it, and the Droid X will too. With HD capture becoming the norm, I honestly think HDMI out will too. What's the point of a mobile device with HD capture, if you can't also play that content in a mobile setting? Other than that application, think about the other possibilities, such as a mobile HD media center with your entire HD video library in your hand. Makes total sense to me, and it'll make even more sense with Hulu Plus and Blockbuster apps on future devices.

Engadget used to be more fun to read... lately the comments are full of "noise" -- silly trash-talk, the same "zingers" repeated 1000x, etc. Some kind of tipping point has been crossed. Is this a natural cycle that happens around the time a new iPhone is released, and then dies back down? (Off-topic, but thought I'd take the opportunity of this manageable thread to ask...)

@pavvy There's just been a lot of idiot fanboys recently, I'm an apple supporter I would say, but I find true fanboys annoying, especially when they insult the actual good features of android, (I insult the bad ones I guess :)) but they say like "oh android just copied the iPhone by having an email app"
Sure would love to know what HTC has planned this fall for Verizon.

Yeah, I'd love for my phone to actually sleep. When it does my battery lasts for over 24 hours. When it doesn't, about 8.

I've seen iPhone movie quality comparisons on yesterday Anandtech review of iPhone4 and was shocked by the quality of iPhone HD specifically in comparison with all others including Droid incredible, Nokia and older iPhone. My HTC EVO movie quality though much better then in HD2 sucks as$

Yes!! I'be had the Incredible since day one and been Ok with it's performance. These new features if added would make me get another HTC incredible for my wife.
Hopefully the update will also address the few incredibly irritating bugs with the Incredible. It'd be nice if the browser would remember the sort order you set. And I'm getting tired of having to wipe the phone and start over every 6 weeks or so because of the low memory issue (which HTC doesn't seem to want to admit even exists...)
Can someone please point me to a place where rooting, froyo and other droid terms are explained. I'm returning my iphone4 tomorrow and will either go with the incredible or the X. Not sure which is better especially if the INC is getting wifi hotspot and 720p video. Any advice and thanks to anyone who wishes to explain this new world of droid to me.
