Microsoft prepping Magic Mouse-like Arc Touch Mouse?
Microsoft isn't saying anything about this one just yet, but there's a growing amount of evidence that the company is set to take on Apple's Magic Mouse with its own Arc Touch Mouse. As istartedsomething reports, that includes a product listing for an "Arc Touch Mouse" at several European retailers (with a $70 price tag), an arctouchmouse.com domain registered to Microsoft in late March, and some Microsoft Research projects that show that the company has indeed been working on multitouch mice since at least late last year (one of those prototypes is pictured above). Just one big coincidence? Probably not, but we'll have to wait to hear from Microsoft to know for sure.

@memaf
to oblivion.
@memaf
A simple meta truth:
If nobody comments on apple news (except for fanbois) and everyone comments the shiznit out of android news (including phandroids), then the apple news would start to become less important to engadget, b/c it garners fewer clicks/comments. And, conversely, we would see more android news, as long as we spam the crap out of it. Is this rigging the game? or seeing it as it really is?
I guess that's up to you.
@Kanga The difference is that less Apple fanboys visit the Android posts than Android fanboys who visit the Apple posts. So yea, if Android fanboys could leave Apple posts the hell alone, maybe they would become less important to Engadget. Why don't you all try it?
@Kanga
That was great. Now explain how that was relevant to my 'first' post.
@Kanga
Ummmm, this post isn't about Apple or Android. Your plan will never work, because you guys
Just.
Can't.
Help.
It.
If it doesn't look like the image on the right, no buy.
@Kanga
well that was a bitter comment. I think your wrong. But, I'm just a fan boy?
@Kanga It is worth a shot.
As long as it's more ergonomic than the magic mouse...
@Slaarg
thats what she said
@Slaarg Unleash the uprank.
@Booksmart Devil I dont like the magic mouse. I dont like this mouse. Whats so bad about the traditional mouse?
@sbbc96 Nothing. But whats bad about different choices?
@Slaarg What's with the "imitate what Apple sells well" bullsh*t?? Just do something DIFFERENT!! Courier would've been nice! Microsoft is on a FAIL streak. Seriously, the KIN?? Seriously?? And I'm not excited about the games I've seen so far that use KINect. They haven't been getting much of ANYTHING right recently. Except their sexy stealthbox that I'm not gonna buy. Get your sh*t together Balmer. Like, now!
@Tuan X Stealthbox coming in autumn, $199 ftw
@Slaarg
It took me a while to get comfortable with the magic mouse. At first I thought it wasn't bulky enough. Now I'm used to it and with "better touch tools" installed it's the best mouse I've ever owned.
@Slaarg
That's not a hard thing to do.
And if it's the arc, it will be nice.
@Slaarg I've used at least 1/4 of MS mice over the years and honestly, the cheapest ones recently still feel better than Apple's Magic Mouse. As to why MS is trying doing this device.... my guess is probably revolution.
Magic Mouse did not catch on, what makes MS think they can do better?
@Slaarg
there is nothing wrong with the magic mouse. you hold our phones the way we tell you, and you make your goddamn wrist bend the way we make our mice. SEIG HEIL STEVE JOBS!
@memaf OWNED!!!!
Now this should be interesting....
@HighestRanked2
What isn't a photocopy machine these days...
@HighestRanked2 Why must you do this too yourself?
@abedinthehouse
What a strange question. Must be secret Russian spy code.
I hope it can track better than their current mice. They can't hold a candle to logitech mice atm.
haters wanna hate
@memaf
Haters wanna hate, lovers wanna love,
I don't even want, none of the above,
I wanna piss on you. Pee on you. Drip drip drip.
@HighestRanked2 You seems to forget that Microsoft unveiled a ton of touch-enabled mouses way before the magic mouse being released.
i want to know something that microsoft has invented on their own
@iamcriss
think about that one
@iamcriss
Are you...serious?
@iamcriss
.Net, Windows Phone 7, Windows Live, MS Security Essentials, Zune
Wait...most of those things look like something that existed before Microsoft did it.
While we're here, I wonder what Apple and Google have made on their own first?
@iamcriss
Those awesome batteries that you can plug in any way you like.
@iamcriss
Your computers ecosystem
@darkninja962 .NET is a shameless copy of Java Technology.
@itsallnewstuff they didnt invent the computers
and they copied the idea of the OS
@iamcriss
MS DOS. Oh... wait...
@darkninja962 Apple: they reinvented the media player, the phone and the tablet... Oh wait. Tablets have been around for 10 years before the iPad. I own one, and am typing on it right now.
So at this point Microsoft is copying everything apple does now! Even the sillier apple product.
@RealdudePRO
Microsoft Bob
My comment was meant for @iamcriss
@RealdudePRO
Do recall that MS Research came out with working multitouch mouse prototypes at some point in the past, before the magic mouse. MS just never pursued it till now.
@RealdudePRO
If they are.. Copying Apple mice of all things is a bit suicidal. It's like Linux copying clippy.
@collindow I agree. Microsoft originates and creates alot of tech but they never bring it to Market. And when they do it's awkward. Multitouch for example. Microsoft was early with this but when they brought it to market it was a $10,000 table. When apple brought it to Market it's a £600 mobile or tablet. Affordable for everyone to get into and use. Now we have the same here. Microsoft prototyped it years ago but apple brings it to the public. I feel microsoft is being protective of it's tech similar to nokia. Nokia could have blown away competition years ago but they instead sit on advancements and develop products iterativley.
@HighestRanked2
using cameras huh! That must be the reason Microsoft put multitouch inside a pool table.
I really want microsof to challenge apple inventivley. This can only mean better and more advanced products for people
@Darkroom
Just like their 5 bars. I mean 3 bars.. uhh.. zero bars iPhoney 4g..
Didn't Microsoft already show a working prototype of this a few years back?
hate on haters.
I'm starting to notice MS hardware only because logitech seems to have given up on new keyboards and mice. My 3 year old keyboard and mouse seem to still be the current best logitech.
For some reason logitech doesn't seem to think that people use the number keypad or want rechargeable keyboards.
