Flash 10.1 ported to iPad, burninates the countryside (video)

Update: It appears Comex has indeed been working on this project for some time; a second blurry video after the break (running on iPhone) shows us what it used to look like.

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
It's great. I believe it was the last flaw. Any idea how to do it?
@keyone
Impeach the CEO.
@keyone
And fire the entire PR team while you're at it.
@keyone I don't own an ipad, but im happy for the ipad owners. Now the ipad is just a little more useful.
YAY for flash !
Looks like its working fine.
@keyone
Ahh my jbED iPad just can't wait to try this on!! Thanks
@coolkams03
No slaves of mine, will be allowed to use flash. - Steve Jobs.
@keyone The last flaw? How about it doesn't have a USB port? How about that you can't use any web site that needs dragging like netflix? How about how awful it is to get files on and off it to your Mac/PC (iTunes)?
@keyone
It's 'magical'
@keyone - This is great, but can we have the iOS 4 jailbreak, please?
pretty please!
@spin cycle The iPad has a Netflix app.
@keyone
I'm not an Apple fan nor would I ever buy an iPad. However, I have high hopes for this project just so it can be shoved in Steve Jobs'... er... um... face!
@spin cycle 29 dollars USB hookup. Sucks to pay but it's there! Netflix app already. Many apps do wifi transfer easily even without jailbreak. It's not ideal but your questions are answered!
@keyone I shouldn't have to get an app to use netflix! Websites should work on it. The point of the web was so that people could access stuff from anywhere, instead of having to install an app on every machine.
Note: the iPhone doesn't have a netflix app (well, not a netflix one).
@keyone
Hell fucking yeah!
However, Steve "The Buzzkiller" Jobs will be releasing a fix for this real soon.
@Dig Deep
There is no Fix -- this would obviously require a jailbroken device (duh).
The "in your face" is that in order to get this, you'll HAVE to jailbreak -- I believe if this gets released to the public then more and more people will be jailbreaking, downloading pirated apps, viewing flash content for free...
OH SHIT -- I just thought of something, no more paying 10$ for Hulu if we can use this! AHAHAH!!
@keyone
I'm sure people like this think they're doing people a favour, but I look forward to the day flash dies. Quit prolonging the agony.
@spin cycle
You can easily scroll on websites that have imbedded scrolling, just use two fingers instead of one.
Also the iPad is thinner than a USB port, and micro USB ports would be useless since it has a dock. (and they are for charging or connecting to a PC anyways).
@keyone
Last flaw? Well, how about printing? lol
@McKirf
Wireless printing?
@spin cycle
Or how about the fact that you need to face it flat down on a copier and press the copy button in order to print anything.
@keyone
Yes that would be great and all, but there is no support for the wireless printers via software or drivers to print via wireless.
@nicksitruc
"[the iPad is] thinner than a USB port"
Ha ha ha. Nice try. In fact, the ipad is NOT thinner than ANY of the USB profiles, especially not thinner than micro-USB.
@keyone
The source code IS on github under comex's name. If you know anything about coding, you should be able to get it to compile and install. I got it to work a while ago.
@nickitstruc:
Huh? I said dragging, not scrolling. The problem is I need to click something and drag it and if you do that on the iPhone (or iPad) it scrolls the whole screen instead of dragging the one item you want to drag.
As far as I know there is no way around this. No, two fingers doesn't fix it, I tried.
@DoctarPeppar
There is a "fix" (duh). Apple can implement something in an update that will require a user to not be able to upgrade and jailbreak again expecting to use Flash. Dude, Apple controls the whole kit and kaboodle. The jailbreaking is only around because Apple allows it.
@spin cycle
It seems the only people who are bothered about the things the iPad doesn't have, are the people who don't have an iPad.
@Mr Lizard Yeah, okay. Like I didn't just send a joystiq link to my friend last night and he couldn't watch the video there because joystiq doesn't use youtube for their video and the iPad doesn't have Flash?
Yeah, it's just us non-iPad owners making stuff up.
@Mr Lizard
You are 100percent rite. Lol. All the haters complain about what it doesn't have yet they don't own it. How funny. I don't complain about products I don't own. I just don't buy them.
@Dig Deep
. . . I TOTALY don't think ur crazy man .Its just like the rain. . . that's only around cuz Apple ALLOWS it 2 be around .The way I see it its just lika hacked psp if u wanna keep ur custom firmware DON'T UPDATE!
@spin cycle Netflix has declared they are developing an iPhone app. Personally, I prefer apps rather than the web's interface in certain contexts. Engadget's iPhone app would be an example. I prefer its app interface over the web version. Same for lots of sites. Epicurious is another one that I prefer the app over the web version. Open your eyes a bit and don't be a grumpy old man.
@kent99 I shouldn't have to load up my device with apps! My device should be able to browse the web as-is, instead of saying every site has to rewrite (or write an app) to work with my device.
Apple says it isn't the "baby internet". Well, if it isn't, then it should work with standard sites, shouldn't it? It works from my laptop.
@keyone Knew this would happen soon after iPad was jail broken. But it won't run on a non-jail broke iPad or any iPhone before 3GS. Worked with ease on iPad and will work on jail broke iPhone4. The reason it's so simple this time is that FLASH 10.1 on Android supports Samsung Galaxy S phones which have same A8 Cortex SoC w/ Fast14 domino logic, SGX540 GPU (90million Tri/p/sec), Broadcom Multi-Freq Radio, Neon Multimedia core, Gyro/accelerometer for games, Samsung 512mb Ram, Samsung 16gig Nand Flash, both phones have near exact internals. So it's natural that FLASH 10.1 would port easy!
Hate to break it you guys, but Apple is fabless, factory-less phone maker. No hard asset, only soft assets in the form of instruction sets in SoC processors, OS software, software & tech patents. Everything is made for them! ...but in this case, that's a good thing, because basically iPhone4 and iPad are Galaxy phones and slates! So jail break them and you can have Full Multi-tasking, full 3G Video Chat and FLASH....... NOW! ^_*
@spin cycle How about the 2 million sold that obviously don't care about a USB port at all, or just want it for web browsing / email.
Just because it has limitations that geeky people whine about doesn't instantly make it horrible. It's just not for you, you obviously need an android or linux based tablet so you can "hack it" on the weekends.
Believe it not, but hacking android onto your tablet or booting a SNES emulator isn't everyone's idea of fun.
Some people just use computers for the internet, and listening to music, and email and nothing else.
Some people don't even know what wikipedia is :p
- D
@Daphoid Steve jobs is like Noooooooooooooo!!! my AppStore, people will use it a lot less if flash is available.
@Mr Lizard Which are the reasons why they don't have one.... duh.
@keyone lollollollollol its trogdor the burninator!!!!
@Mr Lizard
Why would I buy an ipad if I was bothered by all the problems he pointed out.
@DoctarPeppar I don't think so. Hulu blocks mobile browsers from accessing their content. Even with the UA strings switched to "desktop" you will still get "hulu is unsupported on your platform."
@McKirf "I'm not an Apple fan nor would I ever buy an iPad. However, I have high hopes for this project just so it can be shoved in Steve Jobs'... er... um... face!".
His face is numb so he can't feel anything. Unless you rub money in his face then good luck.
@acidboy he meant standard A-female, i assume..
@spin cycle Just FYI, Netflix uses Silverlight and not flash. That's why the new Windows Phone OS will have Netflix support right out of the box (because it has native Silverlight support). So even with this in place, we won't see Netflix without an app on the iPhone/iPad anytime soon.
@Faxmonkey I'm not talking about streaming, just manipulating my queue.
@996911
Not being in control of your own computing devices is for chumps.
Not being able to control the hardware I paid for means not being able to control the software or content I paid for either. Being in control means that you can pirate or do nefarious things. It also means you can do a real system backup and not get ripped off or have a certain book or app mysteriously disappear.
The problem with a Walled Garden is that you may find your personal killer app is only available if you wander off the reservation.
@spin cycle Actually they anonced that netfilx will be on iPhone to and also it's easier to get an app from the AppStore then use the browser. I'm on the engadget app right now on my iPhone 4 lol
@McKirf They have an hp printer app
@spin cycle Also now most Internet sites the big ones have mobile versions that run with QuickTime videos. ;)
@BallastatuzX Telling me I need to download an app is stupid. The web was created so that I could get info without downloading apps. Now every place that wants me to visit has to make a special app just for my device?
This is not progress!
Apps are fine. but they aren't an excuse for the browser to not work.
@spin cycle "standard sites" are not sites that use propriety, none W3C passed plug-ins like Flash.
@keyone I'm a iPad owner and I love it and for you all surprise, I don't miss Flash on it at all. You all hater make such big deal out of it when industry is adopting HTML5 at a good pace. I'm glad Flash is NOT compatible with iOS, for that reason, Surfing is blazing fast on iPad even on 3G.
