Inhabitat's Week in Green: street-legal Tron lightcycles, electronic eyeglasses, and the American Solar Challenge
Each week our friends at Inhabitat recap the week's most interesting green developments and clean tech news for us.
This week Inhabitat saw solar-powered vehicles blaze trails around the globe as the University of Michigan's sleek pod car crossed the finish line to win the American Solar Challenge. We also watched the Solar Impulse gear up for its first eagerly anticipated night flight -- a pivotal undertaking as the sun-powered plane prepares to circle the earth. In other clean transportation news, and we were stunned to see a set of street-legal electric Tron lightcycles pop up on eBay.The field of renewable energy also heated up this week as researchers revealed an innovative tri-layered solar panel that's capable of catching the full spectrum of the sun's rays. Wind power made waves as well as Principle Power unveiled a new ultra-sturdy ocean platform that's able to support the world's tallest wind turbines.
Finally, we saw the light this week as Illumitex unveiled the world's first square LED bulb, which they claim is cheaper, more efficient and more practical than typical round bulbs. We also peered at an innovative new type of electronic eyeglasses that can change your prescription with the push of a button. And for all you shutterbugs looking to share your vision with the world, you won't want to miss this handy solar camera strap that ensures you'll never miss a shot.

I WANT ONE!
Which One ...?
@potretr
The electronic eyeglasses, duh!!!
No you idiot... the lightcycle!
@statickeith If you missed yours when God handed them out, you're out of luck.
That Tron Lightcycle is pure awesomeness!
If I had money like that, I would get the Tron Lightcycle in a heartbeat... but I would only ride it at night, lol. Definitely would stir up the local news as people call in reports of a mysterious vehicle, lol!! So awesome.
Did a quick check on ebay.... $35,000 USD is the starting bid... damn..
(X_X)
@Plazmic Flame
Actually, $35,000 is NOT the starting bid. It is the "Buy It Now" price, meaning that, if you don't wish to bid on it, you can BUY it for that price. Alternately, if someone wishes to start bidding on it, at a considerably lower price, they may do so, but the moment someone bids on it, that will forever remove the "Buy It Now" price, and from that point forward, the only way to get the bike is to be the high bidder, which could end up being below the original $35,000 price...but it could just as likely be above that price.
Reminds me of that family guy episode when peter was the blue guy lol.
"OMG im the blue guy"
No light trail, no sale.
@rcarm Do you WANT to cause accidents by having people slam into walls made by your cool motorcycle?
@MowDownJoe
I thought that was the point
@SWRYHRDT

sign this guy up
Would be bitchin' with training wheels...
If sex in space were a motorbike.....
I'm confused by that article though... they talk about replicas of the lightcycle, but the only picture they show of what I assume is supposed to be the actual bike (since the other ones look like stills of the mockup from a tradeshow), isn't a lightcycle, its the Batcycle thing from The Dark Knight.
@Celicynd
same company did a batpod replica a while back, probably just included that to show off what they've done.
I now know what the first thing I would do if I won a million dollars is. BUY A LIGHTCYCLE!!
as long as you get the light suit with it. I mean imagine some harley biker dude in black leather on that thing. just doesn't work
No one buy it. It's a bad investment. As soon as you take it out for a spin, someone will cut you off and make you crash.
would you clueless autoblog/endgadget writers/crossposters learn to read auctions?
It's not built, they are (illegaly) using pictures of a disney display mock-up that doesn't run.
The "auction" is for you to pay them to build you a bike, of which they don't even have a prototype. The price they are asking is extremely low for even a standard custom bike, not to mention one built froim the ground up for the first time. I'm not even sure it's allowed to do an auction like that on ebay in the first place.
Its a complete scam... they did the same thing before with the Akira bike. Do your homework engadget!
