@suicidebob I would invest it in things to make more money, duh. I'd buy toys of course, but I still wouldn't buy a diamond encrusted iPhone.
Now a EVO with a custom machined titanium casing or a mat black carbon fiber casing for RF freedom, now that idea has merit. I don't mind showing off money but understated is better than bling any day.
@suicidebob Nope it has nothing to do with having the option since I do have the option. Well the option for custom carbon fiber casing at least.
Nope understated is better.
Lets use cars as an analogy shall we?
I'd rather be the guy that drives a car that is modified but smooth, rather than a canary yellow civic with a fart pipe, a roof high aluminum spoiler, that has a turbo and NOS, racing stripes and decals, a garishly painted exterior, and a system that you hear from a mile away and it sounds bad then and when its close since its audio fidelity is crap. Smooth is the kind of thing that doesn't turn heads until they really take the time to notice the details. The smoothed out handles, the upgraded suspension, the updated motor but a tuned exhaust so its not loud and look at me but more of a rumble, the removed emblems and perfect body work, body seams filled and missing for the one piece look, the perfectly tuned sound system thats perfectly balanced. Not the kind of car that forces people to stare since its so modified as to be ugly. Thats what this diamond iphone is.
And nope, I am not at all the guy that would keep his day job if I won a $50 million dollar lotto, I'd buy my toys, and travel a lot and then build my own business because its fun and being busy is better than being bored and decadent in my book.
I don't think many people are denying it's an ugly phone; the point is that there's a certain type of person that would buy this to flaunt it, and to flaunt their wealth. And I don't have an issue with that. Sure, you might be bitter and jealous at Paris Hilton and the like; she's enjoying her life way more than you're enjoying yours
It's easy to be the guy that says "money wouldn't change me" when you don't have the money, and sit on the sidelines sneering.
@suicidebob I'm not jealous of Paris Hilton and "the like". I just think they are are of lower moral substance. Needing bling to justify their existence. While I myself care about quality rather than garishness.
Analogies are only a bad idea if you are weak minded and can't follow them or come up with your own. Simple jealousness is silly. "Gimme gimme cuz its cool" shows a simple mindedness and desire to impress. Theres a difference between between a desire of quality and the desire to overshadow by sheer monetary worth.
Sure its simple to say what you would or wouldn't do if you had the money. The simple fact is though, taste and character would in fact win out. Just because I could spend the money on a diamond encrusted jock strap, has no bearing on on whether I would buy one or not.
To assume otherwise either lacks of character, or lack of imagination. Just because some rapper says a diamond grill is cool, makes no difference to my dental work regardless of my financial ability.
I have to say I thought about your own comparison (analogies, similes, etc are simply part of the language so if they are a bad idea then so is most of the english language) to Paris Hilton. Paris Hilton is the worst kind of trendy garbage. Would you rather own what Paris had or what is more useful, durable, or of better quality? If you go with Paris's choice then the conversation is over and you have shown your true colors as a trendy person who just wants to impress, rather than someone who wants quality regardless of its ability to impress.
Either way, it doesn't matter since I suspect you are the kind of person that buys things because they are cool. Eschewing quality for image simply shows your own character while saying little of worth. If you simply want to play devils advocate then that is your right. As it is also my right to say that the quote "we're pretty sure this is $20,000 well spent either way" is a douche bag statement of the highest order since, in my opinion, the desire for an iPhone that is diamond ecrusted requires a special kind of stupid.
PS Personal attacks without prior knowledge of a person are always a bad idea.

If you think this is $20k well spent then you sir are a douche bag above the rest.
@dissident75
This or ed hardy?
@dissident75
So what would you do if you had millions in the bank? Continue shopping in the bargain bucket?
Hardly, eh?
@intros This. Ed Hardy is just regular douche since regular douche bags can afford it.
To afford this you must a incredible douche.
@suicidebob
Even if you have millions in the bank, spending 20k on a diamond studded phone makes you not only a douche but a tasteless douche at that.

@dissident75
Yeah, it's easy to say understated is better when you don't have the option.
You're the guy that wins $50 million on the lottery and says you're keeping your day job
@Soletaken
Yeah, that's your opinion. But I know where you're coming from; it's hard not to resent people with money
@suicidebob
I waste of money is a waste of money no matter how much you have in the bank.
This phone is just flat out disgusting... and not just because it's physically ugly, but also because of it's purpose - to flaunt one's wealth.
And the "best" part is, that at the end of the day, you're still on the sh!tiest cell network in this country.
@suicidebob Nope it has nothing to do with having the option since I do have the option. Well the option for custom carbon fiber casing at least.

I'm funny like that.
