Motorola XT502 with Android 2.1 gets teased in China, out-KIRFs itself
Oh China, you tease us with much love and KIRFness, except this time it's actually a real phone -- or is it? Even the tipster of this Motorola XT502 says it's a bit "shanzhai," but at least we know it really exists. Leaving that thought aside, this Android 2.1 phone rocks some mid-range features: 3.2-inch screen (no word on display type), trackball, touch function keys, physical call buttons, micro-USB port, microSD expansion, 1,230mAh battery, and five-megapixel camera with button and LED flash. That's all we're told for now, but there are more pics at the source link, if you so desire.

Man, in another year all of us po' gadgeteers are going to be buying KIRFs instead of the real thing.
@paul34
Deal Extreme actually has a KIRF of the HTC Magic/T-Mobile MyTouch 3G that actually runs Android. If this starts happening with some real high end hardware inside I could see them becoming really popular in the dev community.

Will there be a difference?
@Dafrety The only issue I see with this is the lack of developers. If you wanted to root the device and install a custom ROM, you'd have to do most of the work yourself, which would be a pain to those unfamiliar.
@wtcnbrwndo4u
Of course. Though if we ever see a decently powerful KIRF for a good price maybe a bunch of people will latch onto it and create a great modding community for it. This is what happened with all the regular phones. Of course, finding a KIRF that has half decent specs will be a huge challenge, but I think they could pull it off if they really wanted to.
@paul34 If it doesn't have BLUR, it's a KIRF. Motorola is too stupid to listen to the legion of users clamoring for a unembellished Android experience.
underpowered, horrible looking and no features?
someone better buy a kirf than pay the whole price for this.
Trackballs and physical front buttons are mid-range features now?
This looks like it could end up being a nice phone. I'd like to know what processor and how much RAM/ROM it has though. A larger capacity battery might not hurt either.
@Dafrety apparently so is a 5 megapixal camera with led flash
@Edobe compared to high end features available , yes they are mid range
This is marketed to go against the iPhone...
@mbg19 here we go, another iPhone comment in the thread of an article that has nothing to do with iPhones...
@mbg19
It's competing with the iPhone!? Then this is a terrible device! It's useless and ugly and doesn't get good reception. It also doesn't have anywhere near the amount of apps that Apple has!!111
/s
Seriously though, I doubt they're going to compete with the iPhone with this. This is apparently a lower end device. It will mostly just compete with other cheaper Android phones.
That actually looks not that bad
Trackball. Its all about the optical baby.
@MiddleFinger
Ehh, I don't like it so much. It reminds me of the Acer Liquid ( I think?) AN all black model would be nicer. And at least they're leaving Blur off of it.
but your finger across the little space between the antenna bands and tell me how good your facetime works then
by the way Fring also makes video calls and it works just fine on 3g.. Skype coming soon.. and all of these android phones can actually make phone calls too
@hated one
Why is it every time you open your mouth, you sound like a 4th grader writing? Shutup with iPhone talk in a thread that has NOTHING to do with the iPhone.
Looks a bit like the LG Cookie Fresh. Sure the feature set is a tad better though. ;)
@hated one
These are the guys giving Apple users a bad rep. Then there's the Android guys who do the same on iPhone articles... I just don't get it.
If it has dual sim slots, than it's a kirf. Also I haven't seen kirf run a real version of android.
@weinerschnitzelboy Not true -- see this XT800: http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/11/motorola-xt800-android-touchscreen-phone-hands-on-in-shenzhen/
@Richard Lai Well a KIRF is a device that looks like the real thing made by some company that tweaks the real company's name or logo. The logo looks the same. KIRFS also sometimes just mess up the real device name like when some chinese company makes a KIRF out of Nokia and calls it a Nokla phone. KIRFs also run a weird horrible version of the real software. This device runs android. But i do notice that most KIRFs out there do have dual sim card slots. So if some people were wondering if it really was a KIRF this fact might help them. So this device is definitely not a KIRF
The front of this looks almost exactly like the droid eris, except for the grey trim. Hopefully it will not have as many problems as mine has had.
@hated one
yeah Just 99$ eh...
How much are ya going to pay over 24 months???
THEY GET BETTER AND BETTER EVERYDAY! O.M.G! I ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE IM GUNNA BUY ONE IF ONE CAN GET A FRONT FACING CAM...
I would buy one if it was slightly less ugly. The materials on that look like something out of 1997.
that's just another gigabyte 1305 clone
i have one it's a graet phone
beter then many htc's iv owned
this phone looks alot like the white and red version of the motorola rival
These are the guys giving Apple users a bad rep. Then there's the Android guys who do the same on iPhone articles...Hello!everyone!iphone is so expensive.so I like Ciphone . d^_^bIt is very interesting.I want to introduce efox-shop to you.
