Pac-Man iOS 4 wallpaper just a 'video' feature away from perfection
We won't say that this is on the same level as Google's own playable Pac-Man graphic, but it's darn close. Designed to fit onto the iPhone 4's Retina Display, this Pac-Man PNG wallpaper lines up exactly to give you a glimpse of retro on each and every home pane. The only problem? There's no motion in the background, which leaves Sir Pac physically incapable of chowing down on any extra dots. Android users: this is where you stifle your evil grin and pretend that you're sympathetic.

Will Apple refuse to pay them royalties too?
@Mike Vick No they just don't have support for live wallpapers, partly cause they suck a bit of battery, but your gonna say that apple doesn't give you choice!
@That guy 2 yeah apple doesnt give you a choice honestly this shouldnt come as a surprise to anyone lol even my beloved futurama understands that one XD
@Ralven You have a very clear choice: if animated wallpapers are your thing, don't buy an iPhone. The same applies to any feature the iPhone doesn't have.
WOW !! A PAC-MAN WALLPAPER !!!
HOW MAGICAL !!!!!!!!
@Engadget
Anything for an article huh?
Why would I want a lot of pointless stuff moving on my screen? This is just me, but I hate clutter and ADHD flashy things. I just want simple and easy to look at.
If you want animated wallpapers then great, jailbreak your phone since it's more of a toy to you than a tool. But don't go on some rant about Apple not allowing you to have animated wallpapers. I can do so much productivity stuff on my iPhone as is. If you want a toy, there's plenty of options for you, including jailbreaking your iPhone or iPod Touch. But no one REALLY cares that their iPhone does not do animated wallpapers. What are you going to do if you have an animated wallpaper, sit there and stare at it like a chimpanzee?
@Mike Vick
Wow Engadget is posting apple products failing at something? More apple fail!
Google's official live wallpapers use 2-4% of battery from a full to dead cycle.
The app developers who make crazy Mario game or accelerometer/microphone monitoring live wallpapers are the problem and what people want to think is the norm.
This battery hog is a myth.
Live Wallpaper is a nice, fancy touch to a phone. Your argument that they're toys meant for staring at is silly. Why do you need any wallpaper? Because it's nice and you like it. Why are menus reflective, icons shiny, and transitions animated in the iOS (and others like webOS and Android)? Because it's visually appealing.
As are Live Wallpapers. You can not like them, sure, but don't act like they're worthless junk meant for toys and only beneficial to stare at. While flicking through homescreens and interacting with widgets, is nice to see some fancy stuff going on. The same way it's nice to see that in any other part of the OS, like tab switching on an iPhone or picture reorienting transitions.
Nice things are nice. Shocking.
@Dale P Or just wait for the jailbreak and get one ;)
@James Sonne
"if you don't want to remain cool in the summer, and if you're a girlie man buy an air conditioner" there's one word you used that fits you...."tool".
@James Sonne Hey is your real name Steve Jobs? I like how you tell everyone that no one REALLY needs animated wallpapers. Speak for yourself. There are obviously plenty of people who want "missing" features including animated wallpapers on their iphones. So much so that there is a jailbreak community thriving with developers and users. You make it so obvious that you are an iPhone user
@JONNNathannn
live wallpapers = BFD
Seriously, I can see teenie-boppers get excited about that stuff. Adults, not so much.
@JONNNathannn 2-4%?! I've heard from OFFICIAL sources that they can use 13-16% on a full charge cycle. Wow! It really IS easy to quote B.S. statistics and make them sound true.
@vqro I say the same thing about the iPhone and its animations.
@coolkams03 You should apply for the editor position since you don't fancy the content engadget produces. By the way they're not yahoo news or the BBC. They are a tech blog. Blog being the key word. If you can correlate the subject matter and the article then obviously 2+2=6 to you
Monkey sees, monkey do... Apple stop copying!.
@Mike Vick
im fairly sure this is not an official apple wallpaper
@Mike Vick Apple didn't make this wallpaper dimwit
@Mike Vick Android copies iPhone more, htc incredible flat out stole the browser copy and paste, with the magnifying glass and the dragging handles, remember, the iPhone came out first, android only had an app store because apple did, not saying that it's dumb that they have one, android definitely shouldve copied that, or else it wouldn't have been successful at all
@That guy 2 ok and apple copied the app store from winmo whats new god when are we gonna stop complaining about copying and just learn if its good enough to be copied then it should be copied.
@MichaelJJackson fyi mike vick is a self-proclaimed troll. he just got you.
@That guy 2 You mean in the exact same way that the iPhone 3GS stole copy and paste from the HTC Hero GSM?
For those who can't get the link:
http://www.edmunn.co.uk/images/pacwall.png
This would go great for the iPhone 4 I don't have in Canada.
It does look sweet, when is it coming to android?
@Justin Bieber 3
Would be sick to have an Android Version that ACTUALLY MOVES lol --- Live Wallpaper
@ComboBreaker
yeah, now wouldn't that be something ...
COMPLETELY DISTRACTING! :/
@ComboBreaker Something like this ;)
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/28/mario-live-wallpaper-for-android-better-than-a-tanooki-suit-in/
@Fliesen not all of us are a.d.d. just take some medication for that
@Justin Bieber 3 More to the point, when are you going to North Korea?!
@Nickedynick
What is north korea?
@Justin Bieber 3
North Korea is best Korea.
Wow, a wallpaper.
@Alex
remember alex, if you are an apple user simple ideas of customization are a big deal since they haven't had any freedom on their 'smartphone'.
and people say google is playing catch-up to iOS4..... please.
@tricheboars No one actually says that, though.
@JONNNathannn to be fair, they use to...at this point in time both OSs seem to stand strong on their own two feet...if this beautification/simplification of the UX of Android goes as expected in Q4 of this year iPhanboys won't have much to say anti-Android but that Apple sells more and the App Store has more apps, which'll cause an annoying battle between iPhanboys and Fandroids...
and us Android fans and Apple fans and all around tech fans will be annoyed indefinitely.
What's the point if you can't play.
So a wallpaper that doesn't even move is "darn close" to the awesome live, playable, version that Google gave us? uhhhh no,
@Drew3739 Except that if you have lots of widgets (you do) then you can't manipulate anywhere on the screen, now if you could ONLY put apps, folders, and anything else that is just a thumbnAil, then they could make the dots in between thumbnails like this iPhone one
@That guy 2
uhhh what? I don't have widgets on my Google homepage. I think your talking about Android phones where engadget and I were referring to the playable pacman google had on their homepage.
@Drew3739 These are iphone users, their minds are being blown right now. "Wallpaper? You can do that on a phone? When did mighty Apple invent this brilliant new feature?"
@Khav
It is magical and revolutionary... OMG WALLPAPERS!!!! YEAH!!!!
Imagine if you could have something like widgets!!!!! ZOMG!!!
oh wait
this needs to be a live wallpaper like now.
@gotwillk Apple hasn't invented that unheard-of smartphone feature yet. You'll just have to wait until they do.
wow, a picture of a pac-man board. way to go whoever wasted their time making it. next time, make it for Android, so users can actually do something other than stare at it.
This would make a damn fine Android Live Wallpaper... just sayin'.
@Barguast Agreed. Quick Android devs!
@Barguast - If we're lucky, Apple will (patent) it and make live wallpaper available for iOS4 on a 4.1.X edition. Hopefully on iOS5 before long since we have custom wallpaper now.
Then we'll get a thousand "my battery life drains faster than ever with the live wallpaper".
link to the PNG seems to be dead :(
