White HTC EVO 4G lands early in Best Buy stores (update: unboxing!)
Good news, EVO 4G lovers! The striking white version of Sprint's most gargantuan (by diagonal screen size, anyway) smartphone has started to splash down into Best Buy stores across the nation a full five days early. If you'll recall, the white EVO 4G wasn't supposed to land in the hands of those who pre-ordered until July 11th, but we've received two independent confirmations that they are indeed arriving early in select locales. Stay close to your current phone -- you may be getting a pick-up call in the not-too-distant future.
Update: A tipster has just sent in a gallery's worth of unboxing shots -- looks like these are indeed being handed out early! Huzzah!

Hahahahahahah, well at least it seems it's available, not like some OTHER popular white device..
@Redyz Me wants.
@Redyz Uhh...Looks half white to me?
@Redyz But why is the bezel still black??
@Redyz I'll hold out for the diamond encrusted one.
@liftedngifted1
only the back cover is white. @_@
@sarahdg seems pretty half-assed doesn't it....ill stick my black one.
@Redyz
Yeah but at least the iphone as already sold 3 million.
And you think you pawned someone.
Ha ha!
@pspitts
How many white ones?
@MarkAnderson
Oh why, thank you for that comeback
@Redyz
I love the black and white look. Look to the cookie, the black and white cookie.
@pspitts 3 million?
@bandsaw
that's what she said
@pspitts, WORLDWIDE, the EVO is sold in one country on one carrier. No antenna defects. ;)
@pspitts
HERE WE go again. iSheep, AppHole, and or Fanboy. Throwing numbers to make it look like they are the shizznit.
Your antenna design sucks ass. Let me ask you the same questions i ask every fanboy....SO this mean McDonalds as the best burgers in the world? Toyota is far superior than BMW and Mercedes? The NEW Karate Kid is better then the original?
Go back and play on your iphone with your RIGHT hand. Cause Uncle Steve just called you guys idiots and all you did is say "Yes Daddy"
@Redyz meaning no one is buying it........
though we already knew sprint lied about the EVO being all that popular.

Iphone however sold almost 2 mil in 3 days, and are still selling like hotcakes. I know mine is still on order, hopefully shipping this week.
@pspitts You're comparing the sale of ONE MODEL of android to the sale of your iphone? That's cute. Unlike you we have variety.
On another note - loving my black EVO.
@rmbrown09 Besides that being a month ago, you still have to take into account that the EVO is still sold out, and selling like hotcakes in some markets. I don't think anybody's lying about that.
Sold out at my Edison store, and online http://shop.sprint.com/NASApp/onlinestore/en/Action/SubmitRegionAction?isUpgradePathForCoverage=false&currZipCode=&upgradeOption=&nextPage=DisplaySelPhoneDetail&equipmentSKUurlPart=%3FphoneSKU%3DAPA9292KT%26currentPage%3DphonePage&filterStringParamName=&newZipCode=08840
@pspitts "Yeah but at least the iphone as already sold 3 million."
Where can I find current sales numbers for the iPhone4?
@Ninetysix That thing is HUGE! At first I thought Apple screwed up again and sent out a white backed iPad.
@pspitts
Whether iPhone sells to 100 people or 3 million people, it won't affect me. But if a product is absent versus a product is present, it sure makes a difference to me as I can't purchase an unavailable product! Did you say pawned?
@Seven2k "Let me ask you the same questions i ask every fanboy....SO this mean McDonalds as the best burgers in the world? Toyota is far superior than BMW and Mercedes? The NEW Karate Kid is better then the original?"
McDonald's burgers are cheaper than Five Guys'.
Toyota's vehicles are cheaper than BMW's.
Adjusted for inflation, the orginal Karate Kid has made more money in theaters than the newest iteration.
@RawlsRorty still didnt answer my question(s)
@Seven2k
I thought my reply was more responsive to your original post, but if you want literal answers to your rhetorical questions:
No, no, and meh!
@RawlsRorty this phone http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/03/keepin-it-real-fake-next-gen-iphone-has-a-bold-kirf-y-imperti/ is also cheaper than this one http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/22/iphone-4-review/
....I mean this is the point you're trying to make, yeh?
@kstagg I don't fully understand your comment. iPhone owners can just as easily choose ANY other phone just as an EVO owner can choose any other phone. It's not like you buy "Android" and have access to ALL phones in that one purchase--you're still tied to the phone you bought.
@Processing
I'm not sure what point that is?
My point is, reduced price increases demand for products, and that, all else being equal, cheaper products will outsell more expensive ones.
The above does not imply that all cheap products will outsell their more expensive counterparts; merely that reduced price increases the chances that they will.
In the examples given: McDonalds v. Five Guys, Toyota v. BMW, the reduced price of the lower end product explains its increased sales volume relative to its more expensive counterpart. I would have thought all of this was obvious.
@RawlsRorty
Seeing as how the iPhone 4 sold 1.7 mill in 3 days, its a good guess that by now they sold 3 mill.
@Seven2k Your analogy is kind of flawed. BMWs and Mercedes cars are a lot more expensive than toyota cars. Does the EVO have the same price as the iphone?
You need to find a better analogy :)
@Seven2k
Let me give you a free lesson in basic analysis. Consider this a common sense 101...
I feel compelled to give you this lesson because your analysis is fundamentally wrong.
1. Compare products that are in the same price range. That would prove that they are competitive and someone who can afford one could also afford the other. In this case, iphone and EVO are competitive products. They both cost $199 for the consumer (the iphone is actually more expensive because you have the $299 option and the overall plan costs more).
2. When products cost the same, the one that sells more is said to be preferred by more people in the targeted market. In this case the iphone has sold over 10x more than the EVO. On release week the iphone sold around 1.2M on ATT ALONE, whereas the EVO sold around 60K on Sprint.
3. Mc Donalds does not make the best burger in the world, they just make the best burger at their price point. Toyota does not necessarily make better cars than BMW, just that more people are willing to buy Toyota cars at their price point than BMW cars...note the key point here is 'price point'. What people are willing to pay at a price point is called 'value'. More people see more value of a Mc Donalds burger at $2.99 than a better burger at $20....
4. So at $199 more people see more value in an iphone v. an EVO. In fact 10x more people prefer an iphone at $199 than an EVO.
The next time I read poor analysis like yours I am going to throw up. At least prove that you have a high school education! I know you probably heard your analysis from someone else...but they were simply preying on ignorant people like you!
@RawlsRorty sorry there, I didn't read your second post. *zips lips*
@Redyz
It's been a month since the Evo came out. It's only been 2 weeks for the iPhone. You fail at understanding relative time.
@jaffreywali
I doubt McDonald's even makes the best burger for the price point. It's just marketing. When people think fast food, they think McDonald's. Although I guess when people think fat people, they also think McDonald's(at least here in the US or where I live).
That being said, I don't want to argue that the iPhone is better or the EVO is better. They're both great phones with their own pros and cons. But I doubt you can argue against the fact that most of everyone knows about the iPhone by now given its widespread popularity and success whereas not so much of everyone, and especially the average consumer, will know why the EVO is a great phone too.
The iPhone is already in its fourth iteration and has been a great phone each time, at least in the public's eyes although I'm sure there are some here that would disagree with that statement. The EVO on the other hand is made by a manufacturer I'm sure many people don't even know exists.
Would I be a dick and say your argument is fundamentally flawed too? No way. But, it is a bit oversimplified. At least, I wouldn't go so far as to say 10x people prefer the iPhone to the EVO for the price.
Most people don't know anything about the EVO, and what's great about it. At the same time, many people who have an iPhone probably don't know what's great about it either, but I suppose that's what's so amazing about it. It's built for the average consumer and is so easy to use. On the other hand, the EVO has advantages that are harder to see for the average consumer like 4G.
@Jack cough cough, wernt most of those sales, just upgrades from the 3gs/lower models to the 4? please, lets count ACTUAL SALES, NOT upgrade sales.
@Ninetysix
A zebra EVO in the wild...a rare breed indeed
white power! *holds fist in the air*
@Ninetysix
Yup. If the whole thing was white like it should be, it would look really nice. Looks pretty awkward how it is now, IMO.
@Redyz
so happy i pre ordered mine :)
@huskie fluff
How many EVO phones were upgrades from other Android phones? Also, ATT added more new customers in 3 days than total EVO sales. It's safe to say many more non iPhone users bought an iPhone 4 than any other Android phone period! Att added around 300k new users from other networks. No Android phone has sold more than 250k units in it's first week.
@rmbrown09 the iPhone was released in US, UK, Japan, France, and Germany the Evo was just the US obviously the iPhone is going to sell a lot more
@jaffreywali we wont know if anyone upgraded to an evo will we. why? becuase there was no evo gs, or evo2, to upgrade from so. anyway. with that said. international numbers aside, and upgrade models aside, your saying, they actually pretty much only sold 300k units.
@Redyz
Not a real WHITE hanset, just the back. not comparable to iphone 4 ...
Geez these childish fights will never die
@huskie fluff
No Apple sold 1.7M in the first 2 days. 1.2M were to US Att customers. Of the 1.2M around 30% were to people from other networks - were was even a breakdown by network. But overall the number works out to around 350K people who bought iPhone 4 on ATT for sure did not upgrade from an iPhone. So the 350k assumes 100% of all Att upgrades were iPhone users. Which we know is not the case.
Hence, even in a worst case scenario, the iPhone 4 got more new non iPhone users than any Android phone ever sold got customers. Period.
Even if the percentage of non AT&T customers is 20%, the number is still bigger than the total launch number for any Android phone.
Comparing the iPhone 4 launch to any other phone is like comparing the New York Yankees to a junior league team. There is nothing in the same league.... only the iPhone 3GS.
@jaffreywali, really?? That's funny, considering there were 600,000 alleged pre-orders in the US, a lot of those pre-orders were canceled by Apple. Care to add more, BULL SHIT?!
@huskie fluff
Uh, I didn't say anything about sales. I was talking about the availability of a white Evo, and some idiot pointing out that the white iPhone isn't out yet. Even though it took a full month to get a white Evo after it came out.
But since you brought it up, I'd like to see you explain how upgrade sales aren't "real sales" when upgraders are still paying the same $199 that everybody else is. How is that not a "real sale"? are they not paying for it with real money? Explain.
@liftedngifted1
Exactly. If the front of the device had been white too, this phone would have been boss!!
@RawlsRorty bose must sell the best sound equipment then.
@Openwave
That doesn't follow from anything I've written.
well actually 1,699,999 iphone 4 sales. Im on the phone with att trying to cancel my order. Ive been transferred 4 times and been on the phone 41 minutes. Im really agitated.
@Seven2k
Don't provoke the kids
