Looks like we've (almost) solved the mystery of PlayStation 3's FCC-bound
CECH-2501 models. Sony just announced a "classic white"
PS3 Slim (as opposed to the
"ceramic white" original) for Japan, model CECH-2500, coming July 29th with 160GB HDD. For 34,980 yen (about $400 translated to US currency) you can now start off with 320GB of storage in your "charcoal black" model -- not to worry, the aforementioned 160GB still retails for 29,980 yen ($342). So, when are we gonna see this elsewhere in the world, hm?
Update: Post edited to make clear that the new "classic white" model is only available with a 160GB HDD.

@XRX eh, more of a pc game person. find them to have higher fps, look better, and are customizable, also get more updates and releases for them (team fortress 2 for pc is a great example)

Well mr pc drag your mouse to the top left and back out because this isn't "hey all the douche bags who want to say pc is better for no reason come on in" pcs do kick ass I've got more hours logged on steam then any system I've owned but I don't talk down to console gamers. I for one would love to get a white ps3 to contrast my black tv. I doubt I will though considering my launch 60gb model, upgraded to 500gb, is still kicking.

Here's a cool story, bro. I was in Japan a few weeks ago and you know what made me feel like a total tourist? My black camera. Nobody there has a black camera. Nobody there has black anything, really, unless they want to look like a serious businessman, which most people don't.
Black electronics used to be more popular in Japan, but these days people want brighter colors. All you see people using as you wander around are pink, silver, purple, or red DS's, PSP's, cell phones and cameras. Home electronics are not much different.

And the difference between the 360 and PS3 is now only around 5 million, compared to the 12 million at launch. So Sony has been closing the gap..

Yeah but they only made strides for a few months after the last price drop. After 3 months I think, Microsoft was back to selling more consoles then Sony.
