Canon updates EOS-1D Mark IV and Rebel T2i / 550D firmware, squashes manual exposure movie bug

@f3nwick
Really?!
no one mentioned it because not many people have the newer 105 macro lens. It has a different kind of IS system more friendly to video. Meaning it doesn't lock and rubber-band when panning horizontally
@PDOG You mean the 100mm f/2.8 L IS ?? (Not 105mm...) The new hybrid IS is designed for macro photography - it's got nothing to do with video. It's designed to compensate for 'forwards - backwards' movement when shooting small objects. The tiny depth-of-field desired in macro photography is a real pest when trying to get accurate focus hand-held.
I'm kind of obsessive about firmware updates... I never shoot video with my T2i... but maybe someday I will... worth the hassle, not worth the hassle, worth the hassle...? Agh!
Now what about manual video exposure for the T1i??
@JoeJoeJoeJoeJoe
as an owner of a t1i since launch a year ago, i couldnt agree with you more. i don't understand why the t1i wouldn't be able to handle at least a 1080p 24fps mode. it too has the digic 4 processor. what gives?
@Engadget Thank you
Now can I have the mark iv to try out the firmware update? :)
Well I updated my 1D Mark IV but I can't say I really had any problems with it before.
So they fix this but not the AGC issue?
Just updated my Canon EOS Rebel T2i with the 1.0.8 firmware update, everything went smooth. Never had any problems to begin with in the first place!
wow, you could use that thing to kill zombies and then take pictures. :)
@Zwaag
I wish that caused an automatic ban..
I wish they could somehow allow autofocus during filming
@EviLCuLT26
If you want to use autofocus while filming with a T2i, you blew it.
@EviLCuLT26
you can. there are 3 different modes, 4 if you include you hand and eye.
@PDOG How?
@EviLCuLT26
I wish they'd allow 30fps at 720p. I think it's dumb that 720p has to take up as much space as the 1080p, while doubling the framerate and killing low light capability at 720p.
I'll wait and have some other people be firmware guinea pigs...
magic lantern!?
Hmmmmm.....so that's one firmware i won't bother installing on my 1D mark 4.
@f3nwick so then its really necessary to take the effort to click on the story and comment on it.
oh how i wish i could afford a t2i and 18-135mm lens
Firmware 1.0.8 has a bug, where the LCD stays OFF when I turn on the camera...
This has nothing to do with Custom Function (C.Fn) 11.
