Samsung's Windows Phone 7 prototype slipping out to Imagine Cup finalists
You thought about shipping off to Warsaw for the Imagine Cup 2010 finals, didn't you? 'Tis a shame you didn't, because Microsoft is fixing to hand out Windows Phone 7 prototypes to every last finalist at the show (around 400, we're hearing). The winning team has already received their handsets after receiving a mighty round of applause from developing Beastware, and while it's impossible to tell from images so far, the phones that they acquired look to be the same as the Samsung device we toyed with back in June. Funny -- we reckoned the finalists at a show like this would be in that elusive Kin generation.
Update: Microsoft just pinged us with a clarification. Only the Rockstar Award winners are getting prototype devices today, with the rest of the finalists on a list to receive "a retail Windows Phone 7 device when and where they become available."

I dunno which is worse, that frankenstien i8910 with the snapdragon board running WP7 or the kin...wait, nvm...kin is way worse...would be cool to play with that franken omnia HD running wp7 :P
@okok only Apple Fanboys bought i
How do you figure? They had to replace the entire board (from omap to snapdragon)...I mean the form factor and camera are the same, and I guess I like them...but still..
@DoctarPeppar At least we know what Samsung will be doing with all the screens they've been hoarding and the info they've gotten from their "consultants".
@DoctarPeppar
Windows 7 will be the most intuitive OS out there and hopefully it will be coming to a tablet near you.
@DoctarPeppar
Bend over. I'll drive!
Luckily they're too young to lose those babies in a bar ;)
@ossger LOL!
Engadget gaveaway?
Engadget: "Hmmmm, how can we tie in another stab at Kin? Got it...!"
@J Hawk someone earlier said it's like making fun of Tiger Woods' issues, you can't resist it.
@Processing Well, at least the Kin wasn't married and didn't sleep with.... oh, see? There you go!
@Processing
We must combine the two...
Tiger has been confirmed to have cheated with around 3 women on a regular basis. Oddly enough this is the same number of people who purchased the Kin.
XD
It's the least MS can do by paying students only $10000 for an idea that can make them millions.
@Shadow08 We can still sell the app in the marketplace ;)
im gonna guess those prototypes will be rooted with Android OS in 5 minutes
@inspiron41 Something tells me you don't quite know what rooted means.
@inspiron41 God, Android Fanboys are just too annoying.
@kent99 Looking at the growth rate for Android that came out today theres a lot more where that came from. :-)
@kent99 i had iphone for a long time. and when i saw the first droid with 2.0 OS it was pretty choppy in terms of features and it only had like 9k apps. i bought the iphone 4 and compared it droid X just the other day at a verizon store. and it's completely amazing how much it changed. i'm returning my iphone 4 and picking up my droid x the following week. i love the screen and all the amazing features.
@Blaque14K oh, well I figure we'll be pressing that "-" a lot more then.
@inspiron41
no one cares.
@inspiron41
Actually, I care. How did you try the Droid X at the Verizon store? I was at a Verizon store yesterday and they didn't have it. Its not even released yet....
@BoxBabaX they happened to have a display model near the mall i was. it was the first display model i seen in a verizon store this whole week. i suggest calling all the nearby verizon stores in your area to see if they a display model. if not, wait till next week when the droid x is release. i highly recommend taking a look at the droid x and verizon if you havent purchased another phone yet.

Damn, if those devices can sync with Zune, then they'll have a Zune-phone before any of us do.
@N900 Is that Steve Ballmer's infamous quote I'm seeing on the bottom of the box?
@Trang haha, indeed it is.
@N900 haaha LMAO -- "developers - Developers - DEVELOPERS" MS's got humor. Would like to see somethin like this from Apple, too.
@Trang
Woah, nice catch....can't believe you saw that, hahaha...that is too funny.
http://vimeo.com/13181662 -- they won the rockstar contest with this...wow....seriously? I can think of at least 10 free games on the iphone \ ipad that shatter the game they made...
@DoctarPeppar
These were students, not pros. If I remember right.
@DoctarPeppar Then why didn't you win? These kids went out and did something good for a change. I think that's pretty cool.
How fast can we get a rom over to XDA.....

At around 9:40:00
I think it is the Samsung one
I wanna be a world cup finalist now.

but only because they get these phones before us.
@pankomputerek oh come on, these are just dev devices. I want something that stands outta the crowd.... HTC, unibody aluminium, snapdragon 1.2 Ghz, 3.7" S-LCD....something like this !!!!
@mschmidler You know, it's odd but now that I read that, brushed aluminum body would be awesome on a phone and I'm kinda shocked nobody has made one yet.
@metafor There's the HTC Legend FYI... http://www.htc.com/europe/product/legend/overview.html
they never did anything like this went I was at the Finals in Paris 2 years ago... sigh
@GeneralGeneric Hey, I was there too.
WP7 is the future
I think the KIN-bashing got old 15 minutes ago.
Make that 15 weeks ago.
Prize? sounds like a booby prize to me
This reminds me of a bitch that was trying to talk to me at the club... Heard alot about u but when u come around I aint interested. Leave me alot.. Fat n Ugly like a Windows 7 pHone... unless this is just a prototype.... I was talking about the phone.
@Sniggih Hmmm, so you the attract fat n ugly ones... Embrace it.
Hope it will flop like Windows Phone Kin. Who would pay for an operating system?
@Sultansulan
Everyone....
at least as many people who paid for a Kin
@Sultansulan
Companies who want to sell phones. The OS comes with the price of the phone. The consumers never really see it. An equivalently spec'd Android phone is going to be the same price as a Windows Phone regardless of Android being royalty-free. Which it really isn't because those like HTC making Android devices have to pay Microsoft to use Android.
@WixosTrix
Actually, only the based Android application is free. Gmail, Youtube, etc. is licensed from Google for a fee.
@HighestRanked2
Don't feed the troll
