T-Mobile roadmap leaks out, plenty of Android in store
For starters, there's no actual way to confirm that the image you're peering at above is legitimate, but given that the listed Charm just went official, there's at least a sliver of believability here. So far as we can tell, this is T-Mobile USA's 2H 2010 handset roadmap, and as you'd expect, it's chock full of Android. Aside from news of impending Dell netbooks and 16 total phones, we're paying particular attention to the upcoming Samsung Vibrant (locked for July 21st), the HTC Vanguard (set for September 9th) and an HTC Schubert (pegged for November 17th). We're guessing that the latter is that 1.5GHz 'Scorpion' that we heard about back in June, and we'll obviously dispose of quite a few tears should that not be the case. In related news, it looks as if the myTouch 3G, Cliq and Cliq XT could be seeing their long-awaited updates to Android 2.1 this August, so there's that. Hit the links below for more, and feel free to let your imagination run wild in comments below. But not too wild.

plenty of android is plenty of win
for google ? yea !
@skyblaze
no because the android device's that come out for t-mobile are usualy aimed at teen's.
@The Truth Hurts
T-Mobile is not just for Americans and not just for teens *usually
@skyblaze
and as far as imagination goes... just paste that 1.5 ghz processor on a 4.3 inch Android with a keyboard and HTC can make beautiful babies with my bank account
@The Truth Hurts
the sidekick is already dead, sir
@skyblaze The HTC Schubert is most likely to be a WP7 device.
There is no Android icon next to it.
Also the name Schubert would line in perfectly with the rumored HTC Mozart WP7 device.
@fourthletter
i hate to say it but yeah, it is.there whole campaign is aimed at teens.most of there phones boast social network capability's.
In till that 1.5ghz scorpion goes to t-mobile.it will stay that way.
@skyblaze Hes right, they've always had their Android Devices aimed at teens. Though the Samsung Vibrant and the two HTC phones coming up will finally offer more for the technology knowledge users.
@skyblaze I thought according to a previous story on here that the my touch 3g would be getting android 2.2?
@skyblaze - I am looking forward to a real HSPA+ phone to hit Tmo in 2H. Specifically something with a 4"+ screen, and BT3 (hey, or 4!). Just because I am a hog.
That 1.5 scorpion.. hopefully the GPU is more awesome than the one currently being used in the N1. That Samsung combo smokes.
@The Truth Hurts
i don't know why i got down ranked?
i don't hate t-mobile,i use to have it.
but are you guys seriously saying that you disagree with me?
cause if you are, your living in the shadows of lie's.
@Worm in the Apple
According to the MyTouch Magazine (100% YOU or something) all the MyTouches will be getting 2.2. Part of their "No phone left behind!" program.
@skyblaze What's really interesting about this chart is the Android-powered "HTC Emerald" on 11/5 which is one month after the release Gingerbread. Gingerbread powered dual-core Android hotness? Yes, please.
And the HTC Emerald is the Gingerbread flagship phone, btw.
4.3" Pixel Qi keyboard with a qwerty, and a dual-core Tegra-based processor.
@skyblaze
Mark the calendar for the HTC Emerald, that' the phone closest to your description... (4.3" qwerty next-gen processor)
@skyblaze
The Sidekick is dead in its old form, but in that same release, TMO said that they will have the line refreshed in the future...
@skyblaze
I don't understand this chart. How do I know what's Android and what's something else?
And why do HTC name their phones after austrian composers?
another kind of "Rule the Air"?
@The Truth Hurts I don't know why you were downranked. I just left T-Mo and my wife and I had the same opinion. They are mostly marketing towards teens or tweens. A powerful phone comes along every once in a while but most will be mid to low ranged. Nothing wrong with saying that....
@SeeKo
Can't wait for the HTC "Falco"!
@StalkyTheFish
...but I think it will only be able to receive calls from Vienna.
@The Truth Hurts i got a mytouch 3g and im 18 but im looking forward to either getting a nexus one... or an hd 2 and put android on it.... or just get the new galaxy s but if there is a 1.5 cpu in a handset coming to tmobile i will stop drop and roll to get that mutha sucka
Android is making a strong imprint in the mobile market. Damn near every phone has it. This is great news.
@shoman24v
Whats funny even non-android phones get android, ie HD2, iPhone
@shoman24v
And as the gaming market for android is about to explode (Unity 3.0 baby!), I see this being the trend. Apple will become a niche player as history has shown them to be in the desktop/laptop market. However, in the phone segment, they simply will not have the best looking or functioning hardware, which means far harder competition.
Also google is forward thinking. They are actively working to move MANY classic 'apps' to the web. HTML5 in browser is a step, but so is NaCl and PNaCl that allows web apps to securely run native code across x86 *and* ARM devices at full speed and with things like accelerated 3D. The end result is a market as universal as typing in a URL, and near-identical performance and capability we're used to on the phone and desktop, and making the hardware or OS far less important.
*offtopic* Which, might I add, is why Chrome OS will be so enticing to many users. Native apps in a minimalist web browser *is* the way to go. Also Ubuntu is making great strides to include cloud functionality, and that OS could be very appealing to many as well that need more than just web apps (eg. development environment or server).
This is precisely the opposite of control that the other large players, *cough* McApple *cough*, are trying to cling to and enforce. I'm glad that google exists. Without it or similar companies, we'd be trapped in a McApple controlled world, and this wonderful progress would take far longer to come about.
@MagnetMan
Signed! You absolutely got the point! :)
@kaede I honestly love your passion, but you're both dreaming. The 2011 version of this road map will likely have Apple's devices on it. The same is probably true of Verizon and Sprint. Now, Android is a great platform with some seriously beautiful devices, but it's not enough to relegate Apple's product to "niche" status any time soon.
I have a very good feeling that the HTC Emerald is going to be the successor to the Nexus One. Oh man 4.3in. screen, Android 3.0, 1280 x 720 hyper retina display. *passes out*
@jdog25
*goes blind*
/jj
@jdog25 I have a very good feeling that your feeling is pure speculation and dreams with no basis in reality.
That said, move over so I can sit down too, I want to share in that speculation and dream.
@jdog25 - ((pooops)) I hear the Emerald is the replacement for the sidekick. (see googlers). It better be an HSPA+ phone. :)
Give me some BT3/4 on that puppy, too.
@PerryAJ Just putting together a bunch of T-mobile/Google/HTC rumors. Like when Google said Android 3.0 was going to be released "before it gets cold". A employee for T-mobile saying they have a new phone coming that will have never seen before display tech and it will have a dual snapdragon processor, than the next week Qualcomm says their new snapdragon does 1280 x 720.
http://www.qualcomm.com/products_services/chipsets/snapdragon.html
It looks as if this dream will become reality :)
@jdog25 To make things even better, that super-bonerific Emerald is rumored to have a Pixel Qi screen and a qwerty.
It'll be the most complete package to date (Epic 4G is sitting in this throne now)...
@jdog25 here's to hoping your are right, I am due for an upgrade in the Fall.
@jdog25 Where are you getting the info about the 1280 x 720 hyper retina display? I'm due for an upgrade this Fall, and would definitely wait for that display.
@MBN The original source for the dual core processor is in the link at the bottom and also he doesn't say what brand of processor, I put two and two together since he said it has a screen tech like we've never seen before. If you look a few comments above and read the specs for the new snapdragon processors, you will see 1280 x 720 and even 1440 x 900. Oh and the name Hyper Retina Display I made up, if Steve Jobs can make s&*t up for his 960 x 640 display than so can I :)

Cliq in August!?
I am enraged it is still so far out but relieved to see it is still on a roadmap instead of roadkill. Of course the I'll believe it when I see it mantra is still firmly in place. The deciding factor on me purchasing the phone was the upgrade.
@ArhcAngel
I'm on the verge of rooting my cliq. The deadline keeps getting pushed back.
@ArhcAngel I'm looking for reasons to ditch the Cliq. Luckily, they're really not hard to find: July 21st, Nov 17th.
@dardub
Do it. Rooted my g1, running 2.1 waiting for Cyanogen to make the 2.2 mod.
I will only buy a android device UF its sold in Google because its the only way to really get updates
Anyone want to put money on an iPhone 4 killer?
Androids come out a lot faster then iPhones so if done right they could squash the market. I don't think Apple can keep up with the rate of evolution much longer.
@fj2u You can't kill something as popular as the iPhone. I think that was proven with it sales and even with issues and all.
There will be plenty of Android phones that will be greater than the iPhone, though it can't necessarily be "killed".
@fj2u I don't understand what the deal is with all you nerds insistent that one phone is better than the other. Do you realize the iPhone out sold every android phone to date...and can't make phone calls. The iPhone still dominates the market and because people are so much into this "brand loyalty" crap they spout of nonsense at their first opportunity.
@TechWhiz954 No, it's because it's a better device than any Android.
@TechWhiz954 Humans are mindless sheep. I can't wait until my consciousness can be ported into a super humanoid robot.
Shubert is a Windows Phone 7 device. Emerald is probably the Scorpion Jesusphone thing.
did somebody say Emerald?
@Engadget Aren't you guys the least interested in the HTC Emerald?
T-Mobile announced "Project Emerald" meaning something big was coming, and this might be it.
