Lol, you know what, I have a friend, whose basically clueless about tech, but she's interested in the iPhone 4 because she thinks thats the best phone in the world.
I convinced her that an Android phone is way better, by saying, 'Oh don't worry, you won't be disappointed. It's just like an iPhone, but hey, Android phones can make calls and more.'
Then she was like 'REALLY?!' Then she played my phone for a while, then give me the shocking look and said this.
"OMG. I WANT AN ANDROID PHONE RIGHT NOW! CAN'T BELIEVE I WAS BLINDED."
So, yeah, people are clueless about Android. One more customer to the Android platform. ^^
@HighestRanked2 whats as they introduce another revolutionar thing. like a revolutionary hard drive, that magicly deletes stuff itslef so you always have space!!!. you know, kinda like the stuff on the iphone 4?
@Revolutionary You do realize you just identified yourself as the kettle :lol:
I mean, you are at least honest, I guess.
But, if you really don't want to be just another frothing Apple hating Android fanboy, you must at least try to rid yourself of your own biases. Forget about other people, concentrate on yourself.
This is fact: for the vast majority of iPhone 4 users, myself included, making and receiving calls on the iPhone 4 is, not only without issues, but actually vastly improved from 3GS. When the death grip *does* become problematic is when you use it to do other things on it that involves using the cellular network. And you are right-handed. And the signal happens to be relatively low.
I'm not saying that's not a problem, because it IS; I know it first hand. But I also know first hand that it is not something you can't work around. And with all the information that one could ever hope to have to make a decision, I would *still* choose to have this iPhone 4 over anything else on the market. I don't dare suggest it's the correct choice for you or anyone else, but I know it is for me. I am an informed iPhone 4 user.
Now, looking back, can you honestly say that your friend there was able to really make an informed choice? Or, was she just persuaded to follow your advice mindlessly, much in the same way she would have mindlessly chosen the iPhone 4 were it not for you? (actually that wouldn't have been completely mindless if she already had a 3G--she at least knew what she would be getting).
I can read my (non super) AMOLED in the full Spanish summer sun, hardly any worse than a iP 3gs. If you really want readable displays under direct sun light you have to stick with Nokia´s E series transflective displays. (But than you´re stick with Symbian)
I want to throw my two cents in on the whole Android vs. iOS flame war.
On 25% of iPhone 4 user being new subscribers:
First off, 25% of iPhone 4 users being new subscribers DOES NOT mean that the entire iOS installed base has risen by 25%. For this margin of increase, every single person using an iPhone 1, 2, or 3G would have had to go out and buy an iPhone 4 AND STILL add 25% to the installed base. That would be impressive. Almost as impressive as Android scoring a cool 40% increase overall in a single quarter.
Just because Apple added more customers to their base doesn't mean that their market share increased. Because so many people are moving from dumbphones to smartphones, it is possible to post an increase in sales volume quarter over quarter but still suffer a market loss.
The iPhone is a cool piece of tech. The only people hating on the retina display are fooling themselves. No one on this site can in good conscience say that an increase in pixel density isn't awesome. That totally goes against what all nerds yearn for - the advancement of awesome tech.
Having said all this, phones such as the EVO and Droid X are superior to the iPhone in almost every way. Android is positively exploding and while using an iPhone is an aggravatingly static experience, using any number of new Android devices is dynamic and awesome. There's no end to the insanely cool customization.
You'd have to be an idiot to hate Apple. They keep pushing tech forward. The original iPhone revolutionized user interfaces, music synchronization, and the capacitive touchscreen.
You'd have to be even stupider to hate Google. They provide us countless free services - Android being my favorite (tied with Google search, but that goes without saying).
But I think most of us can get behind this next statement:
@Revolutionary not disagreeing with you just curious to if she really said, "I can't believe that I was blinded." have a feeling that this is just a made up story
@HighestRanked2 You are dead right! I agree with you completely!!! Why don't you call me to discuss your ideas more deeply... oh... I know why you cant call me...
@Revolutionary Haha she could've been convinced that the LG rumor 2 is the best phone out there with some skill. Not trying to say that android isn't good. I'm saying she doesn't know anything so anyone sounding like they know anything about phones could have convinced her to buy almost anything haha
@RawheaD Oh please. The majority of iPhone users I rum.across didn't make any sort of informed choice. Let them tell it android has failed like the Kin because that's what they read on Mac Daily News. Most iPhone buyers never go and try an Android device. So why does someone buying Android have to have tried an iPhone to so called informed. And let's not pretend that iOS 4 is just that much different in form and function that.she needs to see it.
@Blaque14K The majority of Windows users are clueless, mindless buyers, too.
So, let's say a Mac fanboy comes along, feeds one of his friends bullshit about Windows ("you'll contract viruses within 20 minutes of going online! ZOMG!") and persuades the friend to buy a Mac instead, and gloats about it in a Mac-related Engadget post. Are you gonna sit back and accept that as a reasonable thing?
Because essentially that's what @Revolutionary did, except changing Windows to iPhone and Mac to Android.
@RawheaD Look bud.... the most recent and clear example that I can give you for Apple fanaticism is the fact that they sold 1.8 million devices on a single weekend. These people didn't try, test, read or made an "informed" decision as you say it cause they just ran like bunnies to get the new shiny device (and even if you previously owned an iPhone before and know how it works doesn't necessarily makes you an informed individual on a new device with a new OS) . Is/was the iPhone one of the best products ever? yes.......I can tell you myself cause I had the first generation and the 3G as well..... but is it impossible for someone else to create a better product? no right?...... and this is what's happening with Android devices.
I am a proud Moto Droid owner and I wouldn't change my experience for an iPhone again. Android just happens to be a more complete system as a whole whether you accept it or not.... plus, we as consumers are the ones that benefit from brand competition so don't be a hater........ and yes, you could say I have taken well "informed" decisions cause I read and test devices for at least 2 months before I buy them.
@Revolutionary My g/f is informed and has been toying around with my Evo(insert comment here) while she has a 3GS. Even before that though she has been growing increasingly frustrated with iPhones and will not purchase one for her next phone. She doesn't use apps virtually at all and the only reason I think she does like it is that she uses iTunes. Other than that I think she bought it originally just because of the hype.
And to the people saying this doesn't worry Apple...ok financially maybe not...but anytime you have a decrease it makes you stop and think about the situation. Yeah it's only 1 point right now but that means every time after that it could slowly start increasing...2 points...then 5....etc. A decrease on your side while someone else increases yeah may not hurt you financially yet...but it means you better keep up your game or it could eventually.
@CoinOperatedBoi And she was interested in getting an Android phone but ATT has shite for their selection so she may just switch carriers altogether. ATT I get that you have the iPhone and want to steer customers to it but jacking them up and locking them down isn't going to really change people's minds. Anyone that was/is going to buy an iPhone almost certainly already had that notion to do so.
I've just jumped over to a Droid Incredible after playing with iOS4 shortly after it's release. iOS is becoming frighteningly static. With the exception of multitasking, which is pretty slick, there isn't much new happening with iPhone besides the display, which takes second place to the AMOLED on my DInc. I've seen them both side by side and while pixel density is close, the contrast of the AMOLED is miles ahead of Retina.
I find myself looking forward to Android updates, instead of nervously awaiting word on iOS updates that might break compatibility with my rather expensive accessories. It's completely backward. And with Froyo coming before Xmas, the Droid Inc might act like a completely new phone?
So, while I'm glad to see Android gaining market share, did anyone expect anything different? I just can't see Android users switching to iPhone, but have spoken to many former iPhone users now using Android.
Again......by your own logic...she did make an informed choice.
@John Stathakis I have been trying to tell these dumb asses this the entire time. But u and I are wasting or voices and time. these guys on here hating on the other OS are all 16-25 years old with nothing else to to.
Both OS are great and I have to be crazy to hate on either. I left my iPhone for the EVO but I still love Apple. The retina display is awesome but not enough to keep me under Job's control.
Why did the iPad not have retina display, front cam, and so many other features (JOBS) that's why and that's why I left the iphone behind and will soon leave iPad behind after some better slates are released. But all of my computers will remain MAC but I can't afford to keep buying a new iPad and iPhone every year becuz they segment out features.
I ask all negative comments on both side to pleAse post your age. it would be interesting to see. Go android and Apple.
Wow, that's quite a story? Are you 15? The "..but it can make calls" is such pathetic weak-minded hype. If Android is and remains so great, let the numbers make the intelligent point and avoid letting your drivel make it's users appear as morons.
Sincere, congrats to Google on bringing a great platform to the market. And to HTC for making some great phones.
@RawheaD the one problem with your dull diatribe is she was persuaded to get an iPhone mindlessly in the first place with all the uberhype and RDF, he was just bringing her back from the matrix and giving her a blanket and warm cup of cocoa.
"I'm looking to grab a new phone using a prepaid service. What's the best prepaid phone service in terms of overall price, phone selection and other bells / whistles. Thanks!"

Competition Always Great.
iPhone 4 and Nexus One Owner :D
@Sizzmo iPhone4 = Windows Vista = Nokia N97
@Sizzmo
time for engadget to make another test that shows iPhone is actually leading
@Discourse
Did you have a point?
You don't "grow" something, any more than you "die" something or "exist" something. You build or nurture something, and then it grows.
at last! I'm backing the rising star! ...but the declining manufacturer. (Moto Droid)

@Revolutionary And you suggesting to her that the iPhone 4 *can't* make calls really made her clueful and informed, dinnit?
@RawheaD
She can't hold the way she want to.
@Sizzmo
Look at that pace. 1% increase per month. Android could be second behind RIM next summer.
@huzzlehoff They are all enormously hyped products that shipped with huge bugs.
@HighestRanked2 she already had an iphone stupid, read what he said.
@huskie fluff scrap that, igonore comment.
@huskie fluff
No, you were right.
She has an iPhone 3G, and she wanted to switch to the iPhone 4.
@HighestRanked2 whats as they introduce another revolutionar thing. like a revolutionary hard drive, that magicly deletes stuff itslef so you always have space!!!. you know, kinda like the stuff on the iphone 4?
@HighestRanked2
Based on your previous comments, you seem to have an Apple bias.
Looks who's talking.
A pot calling the kettle black, rofl.
But I wouldn't want to argue with you.
Too cute picture!
iPhone 4 would already been my phone, if it doesn't have the 'you are holding it wrongly' issue. Too bad, I desperately want to make calls. Hi evo.
@HighestRanked2 Just wait until she takes her neato Android AMOLED outside and tries to read anything on the display.
@hello5800xm Moto isn't exactly dying.... the droid is the best selling android phone and the droid x is looking good.
@Locust
Try making a call on your iPhone.
Please remember to hold it in the right way. :)
@MiddleFinger
Back to the point.
GO ANDROID!
@Revolutionary Yeah, my iPhone makes calls too, you're not as informed as you think

@SeeKo Actually, it's not a 1% increase, it's a one point increase.
