How would you change the Archos 7 Home Tablet?
Archos has been a player in the PMP market for a few centuries now (a rough estimate, anyway), and to say that the universe was jazzed at the mere thought of a 7-inch tablet for under $200 would be understating things dramatically. We found more things wrong with the Archos 7 Home Tablet than we could've ever imagined going in, but still, for under two C-notes, we have to believe that a few of you flipped on the blinders and made the purchase anyway. For those in that camp, we're interesting to find how you feel about it now. Is the size right? Is the OS as impressive as you thought it would be? Are you longing for a larger display? Imagine you had the keys to Archos' design lab and had the power to overhaul this bad boy, then have a sip of your favorite fruit juice and drop your thoughts in comments below. In that order, por favor.

Throw it away, buy an iPad
Add an Apple logo and call it the iArchos. It will sell like hot cakes. Even I would buy one.
I really want the Archos 7 to succeed because I want to turn my Flash-less iPad into a frisbee. But (and you can thank Steve Jobs for making me more crucial before the sale), so long as Archos 7 doesn't have the App Market, they don't get my business. Period. I want an iPad replacement, but I don't want to replace once closed system with another.
Improve the Archos 7? have another company make the thing.
This one's *easy*. Capacitive screen, snapdragon or equivalent, Froyo, for under 300$.
Come on people make ipad like windows machine that's gonna replace my netbook.. I need it for work.. I don't need ipad or droidpad like toys. I need serious work machine with ports and sht!
Anyone say 2.2 yet?
we're living in a primitive age in terms of tablets and or compact internet devices.
i think that'd sums it up pretty good there.
just matter of time and evolution cycles.. then we'll have some truly usable-friendly devices.
talk about getting it right, theres always this and that.. too big, too small, too clunky but crappy.. or lacking computer power etc..
how about make a god damn slick design, compact 7'' super high resolution display.., again fat fingers problem, "too small, cant fit my fat fingers on the keys".. thats kind of a god damn everyday reality.
or " the screen too small, my poor god damn eyes cant see"..
it's just by the fact that we, as majority americans are fat with fat fingers and diabetics with poor eyesight(simple and true).
on the other hand, compact and slick designs are hot in asia countries.
but the bottom line is, most important of all, i'd say battery operating time and computing power are still the hay stacks.
can't say enough LOL, it's just matter of time though, i'm sure.
not to mention, every time when i see "ARCHOS" dky reminds
me of "ANCHOVY" which is not necessarily the prettiest name out there.
:)
how 'bout an IR or BT television remote feature? i can't tell you how many times i've been out (doctors office, workout room, etc.) and REALLY wanted to change the channels with my phone. seriously, so many features and they overlook the easiest one? (and maybe a bottle opener)
This is a disappointment of a tablet to say the least.
1. hard drive... with one caveat, removal of the device id lock that stops archos 5 owners from swapping hard drives.
2 increase memory for faster read times of aforementioned hard drives
3.android marketplace(done correctly)
4.increase weight(i find that build quality seems proportionate to weight of device but that might just be me)
5.make use of syncing software(wouldnt it be nice if there was someway to get some zune or itunes support? drag and drop is fine for me but i like to keep things spiffy)
6. atom cpu and an operating system that is VERY light.
battery life is nice but i would likely only use this to watch old star trek
episodes in bed so id have it plugged in to an outlet most of the time
i would only hope it had something at least equivalent to an 4th gen ipod video or 30gb zune if i was going to take it out and about.
I'm not going to even bother reading the other comments - haven't actually bought one, but it was in the front-running spot for a while. My decision not to buy one was based one one reason - no capacitive touch. Yep, I know that a resistive touch screen is cheaper and probably makes the price point possible. But, c'mon, I am just not buying a tablet without capacitive touch. I look forward to reading books, internet, GPS, kids' games and light video playback on my tablet (one day). Essentially, an 7-inch Droid Incredible without a cell transceiver. I'll buy the Archos 7 when it's that.
