Mysterious Dell Mini 3v outed by Chinese mobile regulator, OS unknown
Fancy playing a game of "guess the phone?" Dell's got one for you -- the folks over at Chinese mobile regulator TENAA have once again prematurely outed another handset from said computer giant. As usual, there's no mention on the screen size, screen type or even the OS, but we're told that this plain-looking Mini 3v runs on both TD-SCDMA (i.e. China Mobile) and GSM networks (HSDPA supported). The photos also reveal a 5 megapixel camera with flash, along with a possible front-facing camera. This may sound like a promising package, but you won't be able to make full use of this phone outside China: there's WAPI instead of WiFi, along with a TV functionality that we assume to be the China-exclusive CMMB digital TV. That said, there may still be hope with a slight spec tweak and some Froyo love for this strange child.
Update: commenter thugsin313 pointed out the stylus at the back of the Mini 3v, which suggests that this is a resistive touchscreen. This makes sense considering the complexity of Chinese characters.

Meh. All the other Dell phones look way better.
@Nitesh Looks like a KIRF! Hideous Nexus One Look-a-Like FAIL!
@ZLiberator I agree this a EPIC Colossal FAIL of GI-Normous proportions.
@ZLiberator Well, it's exactly what you'd imagine a Nexus One rip-off from Dell to look like.
@Nitesh
Noooooo...please Dell you were doing so well, don't go back to the 90s now!
@ZLiberator
Looks like a mix of nexus one and nokia n8. Does anyone else find it funny that China is on their 2nd Mini 3 while ATT still hasn't materialized the Dell Aero they promised us?
@jroff
How does an American corporation like Dell have 2 minis in China and a Streak in UK yet no phones at home?
@Nitesh The design looks right out of the early 2000s, like their old PDAs.
Why Android of course1
@Ninetysix
No buttons, no android.
Looks like a castrated Nexus One.
@Bhima
Introducing the Dell Eunuch! Who needs balls, when you're a Dell dude?
Look. Another ugly Android phone.
@bluboi917 Yeah like all Android phones are ugly
@AlienSix no, this is just one of the ugly ones
@thenewperson
lol!
@bluboi917
why does it matter how a phone looks?
normal people just care whats on the inside.
I'm still waiting for lightning to strike.
@Complex
Exactly. And Thunder and Smoke. Those all look incredible, this looks mediocre.
Why are people assuming it's Android? There are no tell tale four buttons that make Android awesome (soft or hard buttons, they should still be visible).
@whySoSerious
because there is a G on the back I putty the fool
@pufflye
pitty* gotta love iPod touch autocorrect.. Not
Seriously doubt it's Android as it's lacking Back, Menu, Home, Search buttons.
Not Android for sure.
Obviously it's running iOS4
@max3000 ?!
@thenewperson He is right... www.Dell.com/phones/os/iOS4
N8 KIRF?
Don't all officially sanctioned Android phones have to have the 4 essential buttons (back/menu/home/search)?
@AndroFan I know in the U.S., but I've seen devices, like the Galaxy S international version, that don't. Course, it would make it pretty damn hard for this phone not to have the, Menu, Home, and Back button.
I guess it isn't a Android device.
Looks better than iPhone 4...like the curves !
looks much better than the original Dell Mini
Whatever happened to the Dell Aero, which was the Dell Mini 3 that ATT was hyping on its website for how many months and featuring Android?
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-sales/promotion/aero.jsp
I'm happy I left ATT and got me the EVO. As long as those android phones are handcuffed by not allowing sideloading and always playing second fiddle to the iPhone - they'll always be "also-carrys" on ATT unfortunately.
It'll run Windows Mobile.
The only true touch OS that requires nothing more than a power button.
"If you see hardware bottuns, they failed" - take that Steve Jobs!
WHY ARE YOU ALL LIKE "THIS IS SOOOO UGLY" it doesnt look so bad and why wouldn't you like a front facing camera?
@walter164
Because there's still speculation over what OS this will run, and in case it's not an Android device, better to preemptively hate on it, just to be sure.
@Fess the os has nothing to do with the hardware...are all of you guys on something?
This doesn't look too bad to me - looks a bit like a Desire but with a front facing camera.
The colour is yukky though.
Ugly
I kinda like it. I would get something other than green though.
it that a stylus on its back?!
if it is then we pretty much know what type of screen its going to be!!
my bets on android. or they could just choose to start from scratch like the nokia ovi or whatever and fail.
@spacemonkey086 sybian is one of the most built upon os's in the world...android was in fact started from scratch...
Where's the Streak for the US, Dell?!?!?!?!
An engadget How about more info on the streak?!?!?! Isn't it supposed to be dropping this month? Yet Ur last article on it was a month ago come on!!!!
