Citizen Evolution concepts tickle our green fancy, freak us out
We've nothing against sustainable living -- in fact, we wholeheartedly support it -- but Wollersberger & Charlesworth's first project is certainly out there. Showcased at the opening of the 'Project Vienna – How to react to a city?' exhibition at MAK Vienna, Citizen Evolution demonstrates four specific service models for humans of the future. From a sophisticated funneling system that gathers pigeon waste and converts it into power for the home to a downright creepy energy gathering apparatus that taps into old coffins, there's a whole lot of far-fetched ideas here that may just morph into reality before we know it. Lazy dead. Get to work!!!
@PandaLand Agreed, if we can get some use out of a dead body, then why not?
@wemustcontrolpeople
Because most people would find it disrespectful.
@Otto MCR So, are there any good reasons?
@Otto MCR It could be an opt-in for those who support the project. Enough publicity and they'd probably still get a significant turnout.
@wemustcontrolpeople
Here are some options:
desecrate every tomb on earth to harvest X amount of energy for the years and years it would take to set up a system. not to mention the incredible overhead of doing it.
build 1 nuclear power plant to harvest X amount of energy in 1 day.
or if you were just concerned about "clean" energy, just take 1 car off the road for a day and it would be the equivalent CO2 savings of ruining a grave.
@PandaLand
seriously, leave the dead alone.
If something like this were to ever become normal, or "law" ( i know, far out and not likely), i would get cremated, just to spite you bastards.
that's right, i won't give you shit, but ill make sure to take a lot on ym way out.
@Otto MCR There are those who donate their bodies or organs to science, there can be those who donate their bodies to greener life. Perhaps, there'd even be the possibility of doing both.
@PandaLand
Cremation is the only way to go!
@PandaLand
Cremation should be illegal, since it's a waste.
Decomposing organic material has historically caused more rise in greenhouse gases than industry.
I would give my corpse for this.
Let's just hope no Stalin-like leader takes over the US. Wait a sec, W already had his terms.
@wemustcontrolpeople agreed, coffins and such take up lots of space
@PandaLand
i can die happy knowing my body is being used to make power my grandkids will use
can you imagine if they used bodies instead of coal, people who get cremated get their family some cash from the electric company
What did they just say?
Great idea, we should be scraping every last bit of energy we can out of sources that aren't damaging to the earth. I'm just hoping they get the power from the gas released by the corpse and not some kind of corpse eating robot, since I imagine people might be a little more offended by that.
Hey Darren I just wanted to say, that even though some people have complained about technical inaccuracies in your articles, at least you pick some interesting stories to write about. Everything else is about cell phones and crap. The variety is a breath of fresh air.
We need blood!
Last time i checked we have energy pissing down from the sky... the solution isnt that hard.
@TehSilentWolf
Golden sun showers!!! So refreshing!
Is solar not enough? Do we have to use the dead? Who would agree to such crap?
Soylent Green. :P
It looks like the concept for an upcoming Valve game; me likey.
If the non-religious want to do this then more power to them.(You know the whole 1st amendment right?) But personally you can kiss the plump right side of my fourth point of contact if you think you are going to desecrate a dead body of one of my ancestors, or recently deceased loved ones.
I have examined this closely... this is actually an apparatus to raise the dead... zombies can only come from this.
This is an awesome use for all democrats and liberals out there.
@SuperModified
i get it, it's political humor! have you considered a career in standup, sir?
Am I the only one that realizes that they're basically generating power from Zydrate? (See Repo: Genetic Opera)
