Exclusive: Motorola WX445 leaked, offers low-end Android for Verizon
So this little number just rolled into our tips inbox -- and at a glance, it appears to be the anti-Droid X, if that makes any sense. We're being told this is the Motorola WX445 for Verizon (street name unknown), featuring Android 2.1, a flash-less camera of unknown pixel count, a touchscreen ranging somewhere between 2.5 and 3 inches, and a pretty light 1170mAh battery on board. Our tipster tells us it runs Blur, though we imagine it's possible it runs the Blur-esque skin seen on the Droid X that doesn't actually make use of Moto's back end to do its deed. We're also told it's "not a very impressive phone" and resembles a keyboardless Pre Plus in the flesh "but cheaper looking," so needless to say, you're not going to be cross-shopping this against an EVO 4G; if anything, we suppose it might make a decent Devour alternative. More on this one as we get it.

Why didn't they just upgrade the Devour that's a really nice cute phone. Just really poor specs.
Other than the processor and the camera, this phone is going to do just about everything else any other android phone will do. Granted, it might pull up apps a little slower, but its still Android 2.x and its not gonna use much less data, if any, than an Incredible or Droid X. Youtube, email, maps, whatever other apps... its gonna be the same. It would be perfect for my mom or daughter or the average user. I mean, c'mon... why does my mom need HDMI outputs when she doesn't even have an hd tv? And megapixel size doesn't mean crap. If you're choosing a phone based on its cameras megapixel size, you're a fool.
And how does $30 a month for 24 months equal $2500?? Maybe I'm doing my math wrong but I get a total of $720.
I wouldn't spend $200 for a phone for my kid but I'd consider a phone for under a hundred.
If you don't like the phone, don't buy it. Just quit whining because Verizon's releasing a lower end device.
@shellis129
Why would your mom need a smart phone?
@whitesoxing
Why wouldn't she??
Never understood these low end smartphones. If you are going to end up paying the same price every month why not add the extra $50 - $100 and get a phone that will blow this out of the water.
I suppose not everyone like us wants the high end. From out perspective I guess its understandable we wouldn't want this.
I'll bet Paul Miller is upset about that phones pixel density. :P
Is This The Best Phone Out There? No... But It Isn't Aiming To Be. The Appeal Of Android Is It's Versatility. Granted. Most If Us Would Like To See It Running On A High Powered Format, But That Is Us, People Who Check Out Engadget, Watch G4, Read Popular Science... We Are Not The Vast Majority... And Even If We Were, There's Always Room For Something Different.
Obviously for users on this site it doesn't make sense not to shell out an extra $100 for a far superior phone. There are a lot of different consumers out there and we may never know why they buy these phones. But it is just like when someone would go in and buy a $20 flip versus a higher spec flip for $30 more even if the price plan is the same. People have different wants and needs.
this should be free on the outset and on a cheaper plan as well. Might see some sales. US does not have the culture of buying phones outright and doing PAYG. Europe has that culture and moreover a single phone can be used across any network. A cheap android phone has a huge chance of success in Europe I imagine.
Price and data plan debates aside,let me get something straight here.Putting a flash to this phone's cam regardless if it's a 2mp automatically elevates it to...a NOT low end range?
As far as everything else and on looks alone this is why Kin is dead.
At least this one has Call/End Keys, some users can benefit from that instead of looking at the screen most of the time.
Hopefully it performs better than the Eris....
this thing looks like an 09 feature phone and yet i have send/end key envy.
my life is droid
