Apple deleting mentions of Consumer Reports' iPhone 4 piece on forums, can't delete your thoughts
...or can they? In case Apple has somehow managed to perfect the art of selective disremembrance across a wide population, here's a refresher: Consumer Reports has thrown down the gauntlet, stating that it "can't recommend" the iPhone 4 until the antenna issues are fixed, issues that its labs and ours have verified quite substantially. Apple apparently isn't happy about that, and has taken to deleting threads about the Consumer Reports article from its support forums. Now, Apple deleting threads from its support forums is nothing new; outside of "regular" moderation, the company routinely deletes discussion of hardware flaws that it's not ready to 'fess up to, or just generally negative lines of thought about its products. Good thing the internet's a big place, and if Apple's not going to admit the antenna issue, there are plenty of ways to gripe about it. Feel free to express yourself in the comments below, for instance!

Yum. Apples dipped in honey.
@dannyell
To be honest Apple dont really care. All the iSheep will still buy the magical iPhone in their hordes.
@dannyell
You didn't even read the article... Did you...
@dannyell Shady! I admit I have a bumper :( I really want a good android phone to accompany my iPhone. You know for those times when making calls is important. Someone sell me an Aria or n1.
so many wrong doings for the success of a defective product.. how far can they go? hardly seen any company not accepting a major defect in their product. this is ridiculous.
@dannyell ...and you'll see why 1984 WILL be like 1984.
@dannyell "feel free to express yourself in the comments below" Bad call, paul, Bad call. Can see it now, comments: 30, 40, 60, 100, 300, 700!
"...issues that its labs and ours have verified quite substantially"
Didn't Nilay Patel JUST say in a comment defending Engadget's 9/10 rating of the iPhone 4 that they couldn't consistently reproduce the antenna issue?
I say, lower the score by 1 point every week down to 0/10 until Apple addresses it properly.
@dannyell
Honestly I'm just so over this story and the Apple Haters attempts to claim that this is some sort of monumental defect that requires
1) A massive recall
2) Apple apology
Frankly I have had the i4 since launch day. Haven't had a single issue. I don't know a single person in my life who has had issues with it.
I'm just at a loss for words as to why it bothers those of you don't even OWN the damn phone.
I don't care. I'm still going to recommend the iPhone because I truly believe it's the best out there. That's my personal experience.
Flame away all you want but the bottom line is that the sales speak volumes. Millions have bought the iPhone 4 already. Millions MORE will buy it in the future.
And lest we all forget Apple just plain doesn't care. Steve Jobs has no incentive to admit that there is a "flaw". Esp when there is no true outrage in the real world (I'm not talking about Engadget...).
@dannyell
this reminds me of when toyota denied there was anything wrong with their cars, and then they self-destructed overnight with recalls.
@BrookLynnsFinest "Apple just plain doesn't care." Employees deleting threads sure sounds like they care a lot.
@RLBurkes,
I read a bunch of posts on the Apple Developers forum, a lot of people are noticing that the loss of signal stops happening after they move the sim card around in the tray and re-insert. They mention that the contacts of the sim card touch the simtray, and the metal body.
I just thought I'd mention that, it's worth a shot..
@dannyell
Everything is fine over here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US0bd6ZNUP0
@coolbho3000
IF they cared they would respond now wouldn't they?
And I mean judging by these comments by them deleting the threads they are raising the ire of you internet warriors on your holy crusade against Apple
@BrookLynnsFinest
youre the ONLY one I see, other than the handful of delusional apple fanboys, who deny the problem exists.
You do understand the "NOONE I KNOWS HAS THE PROBLEM" excuse is the dumbest there is? Go online, and see a tens of thousands of reports of the problem. just because you and your 3 friends tell themselves there isnt a problem doesnt mean there isnt a problem.
have fun with your defective phone.
Good thing Apple doesn't make cars.. "WHAT
stuck accelerator issue on the Apple Prius? Your grandmother driving one of our cars into a swimming pool wasn't one of our cars, and you never had a grandmother, GOT IT?"
The reason Apple doesn't want to respond to "the antenna issues being fixed" is because it's a freaking hardware issue and there IS NO FIX. Except recalling all the phones and giving people new ones, and Apple is way too arrogant for that.
@dannyell
apple fanboys: I don't care
@BrookLynnsFinest You never had an issue... Are you and all your friends magical and/or imaginary?
@BrookLynnsFinest
u don't know enough people STFU
@dannyell They did admit it, they said you can't touch that one spot, and gave suggestions in how to fix it, one of them being "hold different" but honestly, "can't recommend it" baloney, it's the best product ever made in the mobile phone industry, except for this one little fixable and easily avoidable mistake, it's not like they said "actually the problem is that the people reporting this have special skin that reacts and electronically charges the attenena and screws it up"
@JohnnyDiggMe Maybe if you actually read you'd realize they already had an article on that and found it completely false. http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/30/does-trimming-the-iphone-4s-micro-sim-fix-the-antenna-issue-pr/
so how does engadget claim that the iphone 4 is the best phone ever in their review, even with such a glaring issue that doesnt allow it function correctly?
@BrookLynnsFinest
Engadget, CNN, gizmodo, bgr, phonedog, msnbc, Consumer Reports, fox, futurama, SNL, The Pope, Dead Sea Scrolls, Nostradamus, CNET, Zdnet, MacRumors, Tuaw, huffingtonpost, cnbc, Men in Black. Need I say more?
This is gonna rain down on Apple like ash in Iceland if nothing is done
@dannyell
A silly little issue like not be able to make phone calls on a cell phone (end sarcasm) isn't going to stop any Apple fan from buying it, but I'm glad someone had the balls to call Apple out on their obvious design flaw and say we aren't going to rate it high just because it's an iPhone. Unlike Engadget's, CNET's, BoyGenius's...well damn, pretty much everyone but Consumer Reports hasn't had the balls to call them out. Way to go CR
If they have to post about it, you blew it!
@BrookLynnsFinest It's not just the evil Android ''crusaders.'' The same sentiment is echoed by actual iPhone 4 owners (Apple's customers) because they, you know, actually own the device. The issue wouldn't be making every single tech blog if people weren't affected at all.
The problem is real and Apple is just covering its ears and yelling LALALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU! One can expect that the company's arrogance will be its own downfall.
@BrookLynnsFinest It does not mean that if you don't have the problem, there is no problem at all. Your own good experience does not make it final and judging that the problems that you read/hear is invalid. Please remember that there is a bigger world out there. By the way, my wife has an iPhone 4 and she returned it. She does not want to put a bumper case because its awful when is puling it from her skinny jeans. She just went back from her 3G.
As a side not, we went to 2 Apple stores here in our area (she was hoping to get a better unit). I was curious and did some tests there while my wife talk to the Apple employees. There are 14 iPhone 4s displays on the 1st store and I tried all of them. ALL of them had the signal drop problem. I went to the other store (bigger) and all of their sample units display the same exact problem (lost count but more than 15 units).
I also have 3 friends that has an iPhone 4. One of them does not display that problem (at least thats what he said) the other 2 have that problem but just bought a case to fix it which I think is nuts.
@DefPoet
You act like it will change anything.....
And no just because all those websites say that they had an issue doesn't mean that EVERY SINGLE iPhone user has reason to complain.....
Nor does it mean that this is some huge problem that will destroy Apple. As MSNBC just reported on the iPhone 4 is the largest launch to date for Apple.
Again the numbers don't lie. People are absolutely satisfied with the iPhone regardless of these made up claims. More importantly if the vast majority of us was having this issue and it were such a fatal flaw wouldn't we have returned a long time ago?
Much as I support Apple I would NOT and will NEVER keep a product that I find to be defective that is so crucial to my day to day life.
@dannyell
Here guys, I've photoshopped the solution!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v389/cody_wild/iantennafixed.jpg
@JohnnyDiggMe
Even Engadget has posted that this doesn't work:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/30/does-trimming-the-iphone-4s-micro-sim-fix-the-antenna-issue-pr/
"So does all this hocus pocus actually work? In a word, no. We tried it on a few of our particularly bad iPhone 4s -- the ones that consistently demonstrate the issue -- and achieved no meaningful results. We even went so far as to line the edge of one of our trimmed micro SIMs in electrical tape (pictured above) to ensure that no contact was being made, and we were still able to flatline the phone using the "death grip." Sorry folks -- we wanted this to work too, but it looks like people are just being hopefully optimistic."
@cjwild
I'll laugh last week
@coolbho3000
I've tried to wait on Engadget to verify, but it doesn't make sense for them to say "their labs" came to the same result. They didn't mention it in their iPhone4 review, so do they test in labs AFTER they review a phone?
@Dr Lisbon
Guys...just read the book "Steve Jobs and the NeXT Big Thing" and you will understand why and how Jobs does what he does and gets away with what he does. He is nothing more than a scam artist. I used to respect him as a visionary of new computer products (crippled though they may be) but reading this book just made me realize that first and foremost he is a scam artist (being visionary is secondary and parlayed into the scam).
I guess that explains why 1000s of people believe in all sorts of dicators, miracle-men, fraudulent Swamys....people are sheep.
@dannyell
if you need anymore proof that apple has officially turned in the ''man'' the same evil dictatorship it was campaigning against in 84...well, here u go.
@coolkams03
Stfu, there's nothing wrong with it. I've held at least 3 iPhone 4's and failed to reproduce the "Grip of Death".
But the Engadget Android Sheep will fail to realize this without ACTUALLY USING ONE.
Go play with your N1 and it's fragmented App Store.
Engadget's lab? Josh went on a drive with his new shiny iphone from one place to another as he mentioned in that tv interview, reached his office and yapped a lengthy review of the iphone calling it flawless. There was no lab testing. There may not be any lab at all, who knows.
Now saying that the review phone was was working fine is pure BS. They just dint see the problem and now they dont want to say they missed it in the review. Sometimes things get missed but that does not mean the review shouldn't be updated. As someone said above, only CR had the balls to call out and say that the iPhone has problems working as a phone.
@BrookLynnsFinest
Yea I agree with you!! And all of those customers had the AUDACITY to report a faulty device.
Lol BTW your a dumbass.
@coolbho3000
Agreed. Apple is playing the part of Big Brother
@MicrosoftOwns really? self destructed? hmmm.... ok (look up sales and profit numbers there)
They did screw up by not fessing up right away but at least they did and fixed or are fixing the issues. Apple has done none of that. Now im stuck in a ATT contract for another year and would really like to just go buy a HTC Incredible and be done with it. Oh well.... let's see if they do finally do something but i doubt it, see i just called a few best buys and apple stores and noone has them in stock. Why bother fixing it when youre still selling millions every month :(
@loadoftoad could you port your apps to webOS with the PDK? We'd appreciate it. :-)
@BrookLynnsFinest
Made up? Wtf kind of posoin look aid are you drinking. Even if you take all the reports out their. Fucking scientists proved there is a problem. I've seen iPhone problems on national tv repeatedly over the past week.
I'm not one for personal attacks other than the occasional idiot comment. But you are the prime example of theworthless degenerate unbelievable ignorant waste of human flesh the internet has seen this new decade
@coolbho3000 It is amazing how much they have become the EXACT company they were supposedly fighting against back in those days. The mindless drones doing and believing whatever Apple says. It is the precise mindset that Orwell was trying to purvey. And I love my iPhone AND my HP Win7 machine. :)
@loadoftoad Yea, it's someone who wants to own a Win mobile device that has ZERO credibility. Especially one that no one has even a clue how it will eventually work or look. So spare us you incredulity.
@Aaquibn I admit, I'm an Android fanboy. But look, here's my iPhone 4 reproducing the issue (I have 4-5 bars here normally), shot on my Nexus One with its "fragmented app store" :
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36553/IMG_20100713_013433.jpg
Maybe it only works if you disagree with the Great Leader Steve Jobs.
The picture is a tad bit misleading - I had to finish and post the comment on my PC because by the time I copied the link from the Dropbox app I realized that the Engadget app for iPhone doesn't support multitasking.
I'm part of that isheep but
If apple cpmtinues this way they are back to their broke days like they werea few years ago I'm loyal and beyond effing disappointed in iPhone 4. I made a post about also the mms messaging that not one moron seems to mention but me and it's frustrating because if enough people don't report it it won't be recognized and corrected. Every iPhone original iPhone 3G iPhone 3GS iPhone 4 user please take your head out your @$$es and test this issue. Take a video especially with apples iPhone 4 "HD" (bull$h*t) video lackability and send it to anyone whther it's iPhone on AT&T or an android on tmobile. The video is garbage trash grainy small terrible disgusting embarrassing ugly archaic pathetic and downright not HD not even sd quality. Please test and try it cause I can barely find any reports on this issue and I have two iPhone 4 s and tested it an my friend and wife have one each and same issue so it isn't hardware. I call AT&T they blame apple immediately and don't even fake a pre written phony response and they tell me to call apple. Gues what??? Apple tells me to not call agai on this issue and they will not pursue looking into it or even provide a case number. Wow great customer service. I rather hack my iPhone and put it on boost mobile or some international carrier that's how horrible AT&T is
@loadoftoad
This could be true, what you alledge. However, they have that "Hold Different" logo below apple which is an obvious mockery of apple. I don't know. Just sayin.....
@quarleslt
It's not worth doing that right now because HP likely will substantially change WebOS - likely extend it for multiple resolutions and possibly even a different set of API's. Until devs know what the future is it's just not worth dumping a lot of resources into something we would have to recode later.
We are rewriting our iPhone games for Windows Phone 7 right now and have a developer preview device being shipped to us from Microsoft. I can tell you right now that the .net beta SDK for WP7 is 100x better than the mess that is xcode and objective-c; also the iphone market is dilluted with a bunch of garbage apps that have made every developer go to the bottom of the barrel by releasing quality games and apps for 99 cents - which unless you are a successful developer (and thankfully we somewhat are) is difficult to make back your initial investment for each project that can take months to make.
I can easily tell you right now most developers are looking to dump the iphone as the app store has become a market full of crap and has created a situation where you have to sell apps for as cheap as possible to get noticed. It's just not a sustainable business model for the majority of devs and many are looking to expand out to android, winmob and hopefully once hp gets a new webos device out that will be a solid platform to develop on.
@coolbho3000
Someone should do a spoof 1984 commercial with SJ as the Dictator on the screen...
Well if they don't care, there going to have a problem when people start returning them.
@NoobsRUs
Just because you are clueless doesnt mean everyone else is; theres a fully functional emulator available on Microsof'ts website right now that lets you download and test a basic Windows Phone 7 device. Since you also have no idea what you are talking about; building a very quick app will show how extensible the platform is.
Having a grid of static icons that requires you to launch an app to view very basic information like weather, stocks, email messages is outdated and so 1990.
