AdMob CEO says Apple isn't enforcing mobile advertising restrictions
They prompted some public outcry from competitors and a preliminary antitrust investigation from the US government, but it looks like Apple isn't even enforcing those new rules on outside ad networks -- at least not yet. That's according to none other than AdMob CEO Omar Hamoui himself, who said at the MobileBeat conference this week that "they haven't been enforcing" the new regulations yet, and that he's "very appreciative of that." If enforced, those regulations would prevent companies like AdMob from collecting some analytic data on ads placed in iOS applications -- data that Apple itself could collect with its iAd platform. Of course, it's not clear when or if Apple will start enforcing the rules, but Hamoui seems to be content with the current situation, and even went out of his way to praise Apple's own advertising efforts, saying that "anybody getting advertisers interested in mobile is a good thing. It's not at all a zero-sum game."

Can I get some some?
@tehslax
Nope, you get zero-sum
@tehslax im so sick of apple/iphone news . honestly change the topics engadget
@Nanosman1994 You took time to click the article and comment it instead of skipping over it. You are a moron.
@Nanosman1994
http://engadget.com/exclude/apple/
I promise you, no apple news.
@Revolutionary
I used that for a while...it was ok, but lately all i have been getting is blank pages with no news at all. It would be nice to see some non Apple news again.. even if only for a day or two..
@Revolutionary THANKS (:
@Nanosman1994 Yeah what's going on with the Samsung Captivate? Or Kinect? Or what about the tech being used in the Gulf Oil Spill? There is more than just the IPHONE IPHONE IPHONE
http://www.engadget.com/exclude/rebels/ My favorite site
@Lord Vader
Just wanted to say: I love you Lord Vader.
@tehslax
Be careful what you say, guys!
Engadget's been deleting comments that are anti-Apple! Must be trying to emulate the Apple forums.
@Wiizer
If there ever was a troll....
@Nanosman1994
Seriously check out ars technica. I'm there more and more often, Engadget has lost all its credibility with the iphone 4 reviews where they actually never reviewed the product and gave it a 9 anyway. Ars doesn't have nearly as many apple articles and it overall is just a better website with better layout and real journalism unlike this website.
@Lord Vader
Is it just me or does everyone read Lord Vader's comments thinking in Lord Vader's voice? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I mean, even links sound awesome said by Lord Vader!
@Nanosman1994 i'll be downranked but i agree fully *sigh*
@loadoftoad You complain, yet you're still here. I wonder why Engadget would change?
@chuck67
i got your back on this one man...why should there be a site that excludes Apple from the overall news. There should be a site that is only Apple, but remember its Engadget they still thinks they can be buddy buddy with Apple.
BTW Ads suck!! ANdroid and/or iOS they all do. ANd people that like ads..its like asking if you want to be punched in the stomach or face.
@tu eres estupido No that's the idea, there is nothing going on with the captivate, and definitely not kinect, it looked cool and had lots of potential, Microsoft somehow managed to screw up and go the route of nintendo and make it more for kids, video chat is cool, speaking commands Is cool, but I'd like to see it working in a livingroom with a few people, plus $150, a teeny bit steep, but obviously expensive tech, anyways, they might do a little bit too much apple news, but really, there's just a lot of apple news, but there's lots of other non apple news, your just complaining because your favorite phone does not have any news, what do you want to know about your favorite phone? I'll tell you the answer, i already know about these phones cause there was some news on them when they were announced/leaked, tu eres stupido
@Wiizer That's because there's so much anti apple news, and I agree of engadget actually
Does that, cause it's stupid, however i doubt engadget does that, you are just making something up and hoping lots of people read it and hate engadget and apple even more
@Seven2k iAds are actually kinda cool, but that is probably just cause there new, but they are intractable, and don't take you out of your app, but they are slow to load and there are only 2 of them at the moment, I still agree with Steve jobs that I am more likely to click and ad if it is more interesting and doesn't take me out of my app, admob ads suck, it's just like random websites that it finds out your typing about in your app, and then the ones that are for app store games just pull you into the app store and potentially close
Your app
@loadoftoad It seems like there is alot of Windows stuff there. Might be that I kinda am used to just skipping the Apple adds that are not interesting to me. Just seemed like the Bizaro Engadget.
I am looking around to find a site that is pretty balanced overall. You know a site that covers Tech News completely and with judgement. A smattering of one news with sprinkles of the rest does not interest me anymore even with the funny flame wars.
@tehslax
You dumb dumb, give me some some!
I'll make a porn iad then
@Cainhunpi
You can't.
You have to wait for the release of iPorn.
@Revolutionary What would the release of iPorn have to do with an iAd porn? But for free versions of naughty apps they should have iAds for porn sites, a few videos to preview, a description of the site...or you could just go to a site
I doubt they would want anymore negative PR at the moment anyway. As soon as it dies down.... BAM!
@fpad77 Yeah, because it's better to have constant criticism than to take the hit once and be over with it?
@Dusse No just more people will be scrutinizing right now. Repuations. Years to build. Minutes to destroy.
They can't enforce the restrictions or the FTC will take their first born.
@bj1126 and sacrifice it to the God Ra
That's coz apple is focusing on the way people are holding the phone !!
Thats called "the lure". The the trap will be when apple starts enforcing them, heavily, but you can't do much because you put a good chunk of your company into writing apps for Apple.
Stay tuned.
It's only a matter time until they start deleting ads from competitors, too. Apple is the new iron curtain.
If they dont enforce mobile advertising restrictions then they blew it.
@thisisit
If you don't change your avatar very soon, you will blow it.
@thisisit
Admob sucks big time. Most iPhone developers have felt using it has been a total waste of time.
Apple this; Apple that; blah blah blah ...
How much does Apple pay engadget per article per article I wonder?
@ElectroGuru
you should write apple a letter telling them to stop making new products and such. The fact is, right now, apple is all the buzz in technology and your going to have to accept that, if you can't, engadget.com/exclude/apple
@ElectroGuru
This should help ya out bro
http://www.engadget.com/exclude/apple/
@ElectroGuru
http://arstechnica.com/
Stop supporting this shill apple website and visit a website that has real journalistic integrity; they dont post 9/10 reviews for products they never actually bothered to test out and every other article isnt an apple advertisement pretending to be a news story.
@ElectroGuru
Each time you morons complain about another Apple post, you made a contribution (in post count) to writing more Apple stories. *Shakes head*
like with flash. apple just lures people to invest into the technology and then shut them out
Cant wait for iBlock to come out for iAd!! :))
probably they dont want more reputation damage after da iPhone 4 antenna saga..
The funniest thing happened when i saw the new iphone i just knew apple got it right finally. But dam was i wrong im so heart Brooke to end my 4 year journey with the iphone branded phones i truly did love them..But after four years if i still cant hold a conversation with the call dropping of the face of the earth then i Just have to swallow my apple pride and jump ship to Google. It pains me so much to do this but im left with no other choice. AT&T Bad service no 4g. Apple bad phone no reception the 2 just add up to be one big head ache. Thank you apple it was fun u make a great ipad a great itouch but all my IPHONE4 is good for is well i get great pics and movies. But thats not enough for me. Ill mis being a apple iphone fan boy. Hello EVO4G WHITE...
Ps. It takes a bigger company to realize when they made a mistake than to just tell its users they are holding it wrong..
@Exo2045
None of my iPhones have dropped calls and I live in the country. I have had a handful ever since I got an iPhone in 07. You must be in a bad service area.
@Chibi Chaingun
Unless the whole city Las vegas is a bad service area i would disagree.
I dont care.
I'm guessing about 90% of Engadget commenters had to Google/Yahoo/Bing "zero sum game" because they had no idea what it is.
