Black Ops controllers aren't stealthy enough to avoid pre-release detection
Another autumn is fast approaching, which to FPS gamers mean only one thing: time to prepare to heed the next Call of Duty. In a repeat of last year's controller bonanza, Mad Catz is producing a litany of licensed Black Ops peripherals -- for the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC -- and we've now got the first imagery of their appearance. The new gear hasn't been made official just yet, but what you see here should be a good representation of the final product. Above is the 360 controller, which will share a major new feature with its PS3 brother: precision aiming. It's a simple lowering of the analog sticks' sensitivity when you want to do some more precise work and will be toggled by the use of "combat" buttons on the controller's back. MSRPs are expected to land at just under $50 for the console pads and $100 for a rebadged Cyborg Rat PC mouse and accompanying 2GB USB dog tag. You'll find a video and more pictures after the break.

If Batman gamed...
.
@Bakerdk
More like if Michael Weston gamed... but he's too busy plowing Fiona.
@Boh
i just love how game pad maker have never noticed (till now) that we have 2-3 fingers (depends on how you hold the game pad) on the bottom of it, so would it not make sense to add or have secondary buttons there so you thumbs dont have to 90% of the work.
i like how hardware modders have been doing this for years.
i would love to have a controller that has A,B,X,Y (xbox) on th bottom of the game pad so that my thumbs dont have to leave the thumb sticks will playing my games.
@MichaelB
or you could join the PC master race
@Bakerdk
Where's the PS3 controller?!?
@The Truth Hurts
Imma go ahead and say: the truth hurts...
@Bakerdk Hmm some sort of peripheral made out of plastic... by activision.
@rhododragon well licensed by activision anyway
@JeremyBenthem If this game is good unlike Modern Warfare 2, which in my opinion is one of the worst shooters i've ever played i'd definitely buy that rat mouse
Where the heck can I get a Cyborg RAT 9 mouse?! I can't find that thing for order anywhere, all it says is "coming soon."
My work say's they'll pay for it too. :)
@The Truth Hurts They didn't find the ps3 controller yet, it was too stealthy, the xbox ome took the heroic route and sacrificed itself so the ps3 one could get away
@The Geek Modern warfare 2 is awesome, you are picky, or play lots and lots and lots of shooters and only can have the best, as the old guy said "everyones doing it" so even though "everyone" may not be exposed to many shooters, it can't be that bad
@The Truth Hurts Somewhwere in the dust :/
that mouse looks sick
@Ralven
Wireless or no dice.
@tobsmonster2 the same can be said about the Xbox 360 controller. Why are these custom controllers always wired? I've never been in the market for one so I wouldn't know if they sell both versions, but still, I don't even know one PC gamer that uses a wired mouse.
@Ralven Hardcore gamers would argue that wired accessories absolve latency problems.
@untitled Just like real audiophiles think $1,000 power cables make a difference. With RF, the latency is low enough it just doesn't matter. The only issue with wireless is if you like extremely light mouses, you just can't do it because of batteries.
As far as this mouse, it's just the Mad Catz R.A.T.7 with COD branding. As far as I'm concerned, a great mouse should last you years (my MX revolution is going on 4 now), and in 4 years, are you going to want a mouse with branding for a 2010 game? Doubt it.
If you want a wireless version, look for the R.A.T.9. It's the same mouse, but wireless.
@tasteskindasalty i think the main reason would be that microsoft doesnt allow third parties to use their wireless tech
It somehow manged to make the Wii controller look badass
@Ic3Cold
puts wii consoles in the bizarre dilemma where the controller looks more awesome than the console
@Ic3Cold
except you notice that the power button is on the opposite side of the controller, the right, (compared to a normal Wii-mote, on the left) yet on the Wii condom/bumper/stupid annoying thing the nub is still on the left.
These look cool...if you're thirteen years old.
@triplea
Well if the MW2 community is anything to go by, they know their audience.
@ExplicitFunction
Maybe... but I'm pretty sure I'd have always thought these designs were fucking hideous.
I doubt this COD will surpass modern warfare 2 stats wise
@JaZzo I'm buying it for one reason and one reason only, offline story co-op. Its the one thing Treyarch puts in their game that Infinity Ward doesn't (outside Spec Ops).
Now if they can just fix that problem where the enemies can toss grenades at pinpoint accuracy 100 yards away.
@JaZzo i doubt any cod will outsell it after people were p!ssed about wasting their money on that game
I like sensitive analogue sticks when sniping.
Also Cod4>MW2
@tobsmonster2 a truer statement has never been spoken
On the Xbax controller, why dont they replace the d-pad with a third smaller analog stick that has a different sensitivity level then the main. Could be used for accurate snipping, whilst the main stick could be used for normal fast action play.
This is where the mouse is more efficient.
@sethmo - The d-pad already has different functions than the analog sticks in the game. It's used to equip weapon accessories (like the grenade launcher), call in air support, put on the night vision goggles, etc.
The stick is already multi-sensitive, though it is harder to master than just using a good old mouse.
@i8urCookies
COD isn't the only game on xbox lol
@tobsmonster2 Probably is a bad idea. They just need to tweak the settings while you are zoomed in, would be the same effect.
Are they considered stealthy because the controllers are too ugly to look at?
They look like something Justin Bieber would use to game on. Epic fail.
Arnt after-market controllers supposed to better than the original ones that come with the system? In my experience mad catz controllers always seem lower quality and bulkier than the original xbox controllers. I guess the design looks cool though.
I'd love to pay $50 for a WIRED controller.
I will never buy another CoD after being plagued with so many hacked servers on PC. No options to kick or have dedicated servers, no thanks!

They're just controllers people, they won't improve your game, just support the company's goal of milking the franchise
Whats with the Nick Carter hair cut circa 1996 in the video????
I wish they'd made one for the PS3 with the same config as the x360 controller. Instant buy for me.
@max3000 Reading comprehension isn't your forte, is it?
@s50cal I think my reading comprehension is fine, on the contrary - I think yours might need a little practice. They did not say if the PS3 version is going to have the same configuration (analog stick where the d-pad on the PS3 is).
@max3000
Sorry, when you said the same configuration, I assumed you were talking about the buttons on the back. A simple misunderstanding which could have been alleviated if you were less ambiguous.
@s50cal Guess I should have made it clearer.
"a litany if peripherals"
What? Sic wikipedia:
"A litany, in Christian worship, is a form of prayer used in church services and processions, and consisting of a number of petitions. The word comes from the Latin litania and the Ancient Greek: λιτανεία (litaneía), which in turn comes from Ancient Greek: λιτή (litê), meaning 'supplication'."
Not as stealthy as me, but that's to be expected.
@Sly Cooper Carmelita would concur.
