Oh, sure --
SanDisk's 32GB microSDHC card has been "
shipping" since late March, but have you actually tried to find one? It's been a lesson in frustration for many, and while a few e-tailers have shown stock off and on, the card has generally evaded archivists who simply need an insane amount of available storage on their handset. Starting tomorrow, however, that should change. Verizon Wireless -- of all companies -- has somehow managed to become the "only retailer that offers customers the 32GB SanDisk microSDHC card." We're assuming it's referring to brick and mortar retailers, but at any rate, the gem will be on sale tomorrow at VZW outlets for $149.99, or just $99.99 if you purchase one alongside Motorola's
Droid X. The only trouble with that? You're stuck figuring out what to do with the
16GB microSDHC card that ships inside of the phone. Thank heavens for the Bay, right?

Do I get a free DroidX with each SD card?
@higherdestiny
No shit. Seriously.
@aubreyq
what's that mean? that it's expensive?
32GB droid X is same price as 32GB iphone
@higherdestiny
Umm,
32 GB iphone, $300
24 GB Droid X plus 32 GB card = 56 GB for $300
@Shooter McGavin the 24 gigs comes from the eight gig internal plus the sixteen got card. Obviously the thirty two replaces the sixteen so then you have forty
@I Fling Poo Still more than a 32GB iPhone though, so it's kinda a moot point
@higherdestiny
Dont forget its a $199.99 after a $100 mail in rebate!
@I Fling Poo
No, the Droid X comes with a 16 GB card preinstalled whether you buy the 32 GB card or not.
@Shooter McGavin If you were to switch out the 16 GB with the 32 GB then you have 40 GB in total, not 56 GB.
@Shooter McGavin
It's alright bro, you'll get'em next time.
@I Fling Poo If only those memory cards could be swapped to use that extra memory....
@jeff181995
I didn't say 56 GB on phone, I said you get 56 GB in total for $300.
Still a class 2 card...Ew
"Thank heavens for the [Pirate] Bay, [to fill both of the cards,] right?"
Not that I'd do this, of course.
@jeff181995 well technically you get 56gb for 300 cause you can switch between your 16 and 32gb card. Its what your gonna get all together for 300 bucks is what he was saying. And that is a total of 56gb.
@Shooter McGavin
I feel your pain on this. Not sure why some people seem to be having a hard time grasping the concept. Does the 16GB card magically disappear if you replace it with a 32GB?
@Shooter McGavin Don't forget that you can sell your iPhone in a couple years for about $400. Whereas the X will be gathering dust, like all other spent Android schmartfones.
@Ruthless And why don't you not forget that the chances of your iPhone lasting that lone are 1 in a million. Your iPhone, and pretty much all current phones, will soon be rendered obsolete by newer network technologies. The iPhone is so much harder to transfer information to other devices outside the Apple ecosystem. With the Droid, you can reuse the memory in other devices or simply transfer the data on the cards by inserting them into a laptop, using any old usb micro cable, using the phone's wifi or bluetooth, etc. You can sell the memory cards. And finally, unlike the iPhone, the Droid is much less likely to become obsolete. Look at the original iPhone. It is useless now and can't even be upgraded to iOS 4. Heck, even the 3g didn't get the most important features. Yet, the G1 just got a Froyo build which puts it at the forefront of Android features and compatibility. When you look at both first gen devices, which has more potential for resale? And now that the Android hardware is blazing fast and nicely designed, the resale value goes up. You live in a fairy tale. Welcome to Earth...suck it.
@Bskballa92 My thoughts exactly. This is going to be a major bottleneck when Froyo is pushed and people begin to run apps from SD.
The current Apps2SD script for rooted roms recommend a class 6 card.
why sell it engadget the benefit of having swappable memory is the ability to stuff on one and have even more stuff on the other when you get tires of it
@DefPoet
Who actually wants to keep on swapping these things? Firstly they are tiny and you WILL lose them. Secondly, it's just a pain having your phone re-index everything on the card you just swapped and tying it up for a few mins. Thirdly, for a number of users they have to remove their phone from the case, then remove the back cover, then remove the battery to get to the card - what a pain.
I bought the 32GB card and it was well worth the convenience. Also now I don't convert my movies which took forever - I just bung them on the card. I can justify the cost cos now my laptop will last another year as now I don't get frustrated with its slow video conversion times.
@Armchaircritic
all your points are true but getting a class 6 card will speed things up a hell of alot
@DefPoet No it won't, because the phone's hardware is still designed for Class 2 speeds. The only speed benefit will be when transferring from PC to the card.
@Armchaircritic Still faster than loading content onto the iPhone.
*sits on rocking chair* Back in my day, we got a 32 MEGAbyte card with our PSPs...
@SpongeFreak52
i remember taking a week to decide what music was worthy enough to be on it.
@SpongeFreak52
and they're still selling PSPs, damn Moore, you crazy
@SpongeFreak52
LOL, still got my 128mb creative mp3 player - classic!
@grummy
I bet it still sounds good sitting in your rocking chair.
@SpongeFreak52
I remember spending $80 on a 512mb card...
@SpongeFreak52
I love Adventure Time!
@SonofUgly
Good o' Napster age
@SpongeFreak52 haha! my first thumbdrive had 256mb capacity (2004) and I was insanely proud of it though it cost something like $80 lol.
They should offer a $69.99 "upgrade" from the 16GB card to the 32GB. Would make more sense :)
Hope a Class 6 version comes soon.
@Bearpowers
you'd have to take out a loan to afford it :(
but yes it need to come now so the price can lower quicker
@Bearpowers
Why is class 2 not sufficient for your needs?
@Armchaircritic
class 2 is slow as hell when loading things up on your phone.
@DefPoet
2 hours first time around. How often do you completely refresh your media after that? I loaded 2000 of my favourite songs on my phone day 1 and since then it has stayed there. That's my point.
@Armchaircritic
i meant when accessing them on your phone not transferring them to it
@DefPoet
I've had this 32gb card for well over month now. It's plenty fast. There seems to be a lot of tech snobbery and logical fallacies floating about.
@Bearpowers pfft Class 10 FTW.. granted this one is only 16gb but you aren't going to beat it for speed

"only retailer that offers customers the 32GB SanDisk microSDHC card"? seriously?
PROVANTAGE has had them for decades now, $138: http://www.provantage.com/sandisk-sdsdq-032g-a11m~7SNDK2V2.htm
@Klil
Like the article said....brick & mortar retailer.
@Ironworker808 well, most people who are geek enough to use 32GB storage on their phones are more than geek enough to buy something though the internet, don't you agree?
@Klil
Totally agree. In addition to Provantage, Buy.com has them for $147 and J&R Music has them for $149.99.

ya, anyone else notice that the photo is only a Class 2? SLOWWWW
@Paradox
Yep.
@Paradox Yeah, weak sauce. Is it me or were Class6 microsdhc easier to find last year??
@Paradox You better dedicate 8 hours to copy and paste 32GB worth of stuff over to it. They should be shot for making cards slower than class 6.
