Droid X available to buy now
Yes, the Droid X has joined the Kin... in being available to buy on Verizon's online Wireless store. No shock or awe here, it's a cent under two Benjamins with a two-year deal and you can give it the shopping basket treatment right now. Either that or wait in line overnight like a lovesick puppy, it's up to you.

Figured since Engadget hasn't posted this yet:
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/07/15/reality-check-modding-the-droid-x-may-not-lead-to-a-bricked-phone/
The original Droid has the same M-Shield "eFuse" as the new Droid X and is very much hackable.
In a lawsuit they can get access to Apple`s internal communications.
Can you say COVER-UP ? ; )
damnit, it was announced since Feb ....

Thanks to everyone for your comments so far. We understand that some of frustrations come with the speed at which new Android updates are being pushed out to our handsets. Motorola has recently published a timeline for software upgrades here: https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/manager/softwareupgrades. Upgrades do take time, and we hope to explain that in more depth in a later blog post. In the meantime, please monitor this web page for more information.
Also, I've seen statements that indicate people believe that the Milestone is the only secured Android handset or that all Motorola Android handsets in the US are not secured. Neither of these is correct. Motorola has announced nine different Android handsets under twelve different names (http://developer.motorola.com/products/). I'm trying to confirm this, but I believe the Droid is the only one of these nine handsets to boot unsigned images. Now, I don't expect this news to win over a bunch of new fans, but I did want to make more correct information available.
@Someone, we do not prevent application developers from testing apps on our handsets. If you code to the standard public Android APIs, you can install and test your application on Motorola Android handsets. If you are writing applications that use private / internal Android APIs or rely on native functionality not published via the NDK, then you need a phone intended for that level of development.
I sell the evo, iphone 4,and droid x(today) at best buy and truthfully, motorola "dropped the ball" by not including a front facing camera on the x. I tend to think the abscence of that hardware keeps this phone from truly being in the same category as the iPhone 4 or Evo.
We are picking up two of these today to try them out at work. I just started using the Incredible a few weeks ago, but if I like the Droid X better I may try it out. I am already pretty attached to my Incredible though.
@doyoucompute
incredible is a great phone, and certainly more pocketable than droid x. Higher pixel density screen too, and incredible is supposed to receive a software update for 720p video recording soon.
@bruce302ford
Yeah, I'm kind of conflicted. We got them a couple hours ago and the thing is just so big and impressive (that's what she said). I guess I could try it out and see which one I like better.
@bruce302ford
Also, typing on the droid X is a dream. I was thinking, what is a good everyday use for having hdmi output? To watch videos you recorded on your TV?
@doyoucompute
Good question(about hdmi). I haven't really thought of any necessity for it, but it's there if you need it. I played with the X at work(and activated a few) since I posted earlier and moto definitely did a decent job on the new blur skin layout. I agree about the keyboard too: very natural feeling and not at all restrictive. Something about the incredible's form factor just makes sense to me personally. Good luck with the decision making.
@bruce302ford
Yeah, I think I got it pretty good when my biggest decision to make is which superphone to use haha.
Wow all those people in line waiting, i wonder how long before the phone is sold out. Probably sell more than the EVO 4G
@neojubei no one was waiting in line... i literary walked in and got the phone and walked out. All in all it took maybe 45minutes
Trading in my iPhone 3GS for the Droid X. Can't wait to try it out. I don't make very many calls but I've been dropped the last three times I've used it for voice. Unacceptable. And I've had an iPhone since they came out. I'm also getting tired of looking around at everyone's phone and every single person having an iPhone. Well not anymore.
@lawl
Good on you, hope you enjoy it.
What am I saying I know you'll enjoy it.
With the rumored Kill switch in them, I'll pass.
MotoBLUR sucks anyways.
The phone is tainted with eFuse do not buy! Phone will self destruct
I went to pick up my DX today and Verizon refused to let me upgrade early because my contract doesn't expire until 1/4/2011. If it ended 4 days earlier I would be eligible. WTF!!! I'm on the phone with them right now trying to get them to let me do it anyway, but they don't seem to be budging...$#@!$^ Any ideas?
I got mine last night at midnight. In San Antonio.
What's with the lockdown Moto? Are they that afraid of us ruining our phones or are they just being jerks. This would have been the touchscreen to make me drop the physical keyboard but between that lockdown and my ineligibily to upgrade, Droid with leaked Froyo stays in my hands.
Its on sale for $179 on tigerdirect.com in case anyone else actually wants to buy one. Its starting to seem like Im one of the few still excited about this thing.
Just ordered mine today with the 1 year contract for $229. I also got free overnight shipping with promo code: freeovernt
This seems like a great phone besides the lockdown that Motorola placed on the phone, which seems to make no sense at all. Does anyone know if the Droid 2 will have the same? Because if not, that might be a good reason to get the Droid2 over the Droid X.
Well, I gave my Droid Incredible to a family member and purchased the Droid X today. I believe it is more incredible than the incredible, but I do somewhat miss the AMOLED screen on the DI. I ran LauncherPro on the DI because I couldn't stand Sense, and I also put it on the Droid X because I can't stand its MotoBlur...
After using the Droid X today, I don't think I'll ever go back to anything less than a 4.3" screen again!!! I don't even know how people can be content with the iPhone 4's punny, girly and pathetic 3.5" screen... lol
Now, it is a waiting game for the phone to get rooted. I think it is crazy how the Droid X's release got a couple paragraph article while the iPhone 4 got numerous, large articles of praise and die-hard religious admiration from Engadget.
Maybe Verizon should start paying Engadget to write better and longer articles for their devices like it is a known FACT that Apple does it with Engadget.
@ElectroGuru
Yeah, welcome to iEngadget.
"Lovesick puppy," eh? Hmm, I seem to recall more than a few Engadget reporters waiting in line for iPhones like said "lovesick" puppies...is mockery really necessary in this case? Or even justified, for that matter?
In other news, I'm stoked to see this finally out! Heading over to pick one up later. Should treat me well after being with a BB Pearl for 2 years. Sorry, RIM.
I didn't have to wait in like for mine. I just had to wait for this lady to check out. All in all i love the phone. Execpt that lady forgot to give me a water bottle lol
I just got mine to day its great! way better than the old mytouch 3g!
