HTC pulls sideload-capable Sync app for AT&T's Aria
We suppose this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, but we're still disappointed to see that HTC has pulled the version its Sync app that had been posted late last week with support for sideloading of Android apps on AT&T's Aria, seemingly by mistake. Given that the new version of Sync had never been accompanied by an over-the-air firmware update to enable non-Market app installations from the phone itself, this seems to totally confirm what had been suspected all along: it was nothing more than a mix-up, and AT&T hasn't approved any sweeping changes in its branded Android philosophy. Considering the excitement and buzz this whole thing generated, we can still hope AT&T has a change of heart, of course -- but in light of everything we know, we certainly wouldn't get our hopes up.

@VLangs
The complexities of adb are well with my grasp, but thanks for your concern.
Glad I already downloaded the Sync software that allows sideloading, even though I don't really have a reason to use it yet.
AT&T seems to be purposely sabotaging Android, this is bullshit. I want a GSM Android device other than the N1.... this route they're going doesn't help that.....
@Plazmic Flame
How about demanding that to HTC? That's an idea. AT&T doesn't make phones.
@Plazmic Flame T-Mobile's got a few good ones, I've heard great things about the MyTouch Slide. And if you're dead set on using AT&T's 3G bands, you can get a Canadian phone and unlock it. Telus has a pretty good selection of Android phones, and they're compatible with AT&T's 3G once unlocked.
Lolololololololololol AT&T
@pika2000
Pika is right. AT&T is Apple's bitch as without the iPhone they have nothing to offer. If you want Android, you don't want AT&T.
I only have one thing to say about this: HTC will never be able to take this version of Sync down. If you want it, get it here: http://www.multiupload.com/QXDDQPIISY
It's legit, I promise. The MD5 is e0019847c05b370a34960ca316d6f013. Someone needs to make a torrent of this file! :P
@aliendude5300
i reported a dcma takedown request acting like i was htc :D
jk
Boooo AT&T, booooo.
My prediction, the iPhone killer won't be another phone. They are the reason I carry an Evo today.
im pretty sure there is a torrent somewhere to get this program lol ATT is really evil aren't they. i just have them for phone and internet service. they aren't as bad in that department.
Credit to HTC. Once HTC posted it, they wanted it to be out there. Aria? Who wants that low end android phone? Not me. HTC needs to make and sell unlocked phone.
I have tried this sync on my htc desire ,works perfect .
Its also in the Dutch language and i also found some Htc upcoming phones in the program files Hc buzz ,expresso,supersonic and the htcXXX and a few more( and it also works for ledgend and Incredible)
@VAVA Mk 2
Whoops realized now he is being sarcastic. AT&T is at fault as I said earlier and leaving them for Verizon. Pika, give up this argument. AT&T said in a press release weeks ago they would not support non market apps on their network. It's their fault, not HTC.
