Samsung Vibrant launching today, awaits new owners in T-Mobile's online store
A tiny bit of uncertainty has been cleared away thanks to good old Twitter, where T-Mobile has made July 15 (aka, today!) the official launch date for its Galaxy S derivative, the Vibrant. The original Tweet seems to have disappeared into the ether apart from that screenshot above, but T-Mo has reiterated the statement in subsequent missives, telling its followers that the Vibrant will be on sale today. We imagine the typical $199.99 price point will remain unaltered, so all you'll really need to do now is decide whether this is the Super AMOLED handset for you, or whether you can wait the extra few days until Sprint et al intro their offerings. Decisions, decisions.
[Thanks, Alex]
Update: And it's now available to buy directly from T-Mobile's online store [Thanks, Volaris].

I've read both the 15th and the 21st of July... you'd think a awesome phone like this would deserve some consistant PR... also, It's $150 at walmart on contract out of the gate! even at the stores. Google it, alot of release dates say 21st.
@jmhalder
This article should be tagged as a KIRF. Those are also below $150.
@Lundmark
Wow! At $149 on contract, available on Amazon & Walmart, and a release for every major US carrier, this phone is going to sell exceptionally well.
The price is almost in the 'impulse buy' range.
I will be very interested to see the android numbers at the end of this year, especially with the Droid 2, and Gingerbread being released, and that Droid X, EVO and Droid Incredible have had some time in the market.
There's a pretty good lineup of android superphones right now, and with Tegra, 2GHz Snapdragons, and OMAP4's on the way, it's looking to get even better.
@jmhalder : Sprint is crying about 4G adoption and lack of EVO 4G phones, but they still haven't released the Epic 4G as yet?
@MagnetMan "There's a pretty good lineup of android superphones right now, and with Tegra, 2GHz Snapdragons, and OMAP4's on the way, it's looking to get even better."
not for batteries!
@jmhalder
Costco has it for 99.99 after instant rebates. if you check this link you can see http://membershipwireless.com/index.cfm/go/shop/do/PhoneDetails/productid/3771
is available both online and at stores. either new, upgrade and add line.. its 99.99. can't beat that.
@jmhalder
Picked up mine this morning at the tmobile store. Great great phone. Got it with partial battery, and ive been playing with it all day with no charge and it still hasnt complained.
@jmhalder DUDE. . . other than walmart where is it 150 i would get this TONIGHT if that were the case. I just came from my tmobile store and it was straight up 267.50 (the 50$ rebate is still just a rebate after all)
@johneduardo $99 at walmart also after the rebate
@huggyb win!
FYI you can get it at 150 bucks on Amazon
@dementedacademic Good looking out! ;)
So when is the Fascinate on Verizon coming out?
@j3oomerang Verizon won't release anything near its Droid X release. Their new flagship smartphone was released today.
I figure they will sit on the Fascinate until the holiday season.
Now us Verizon subscribers need to decide what to get, Incredible, Droid X or Fascinate. The Droid X just sucks, it's a joke. The Fascinate looks nice, but I wouldn't trust Samsung to provide adequate support. The Incredible really is the only phone that a true Android tinkerer would even consider.
@ImSpartacus
The Droid X "just sucks" and is a joke!? Really? For the 2% that like to mod their phones and load custom roms, yeah it might not be the best option but for the other 98% of people it's the best phone available in terms of hardware and features.
Don't be so mellow dramatic.
@ImSpartacus lmao @ "the Droid X just sucks, it's a joke."
Oh you internet people
@Shooter McGavin Please tell me you were joking when you wrote "mellow dramatic".
@Shooter McGavin
Its a great device... but its subjective to say its the best. At best it might be considered a tie with an Evo... but i can hardly say so with Moto blur loaded up and with the lack of video calling feature...
I would admit its probably faster because of the superior processor .. but that difference it probably negligible.
@ImSpartacus It is very true. droid x FTW
@Shooter McGavin
*melodramatic.
@j3oomerang
I just came back from Verizon and, while I wouldn't say it sucks, it's not as good as I thought it would be. Side-by-side, the Incredible has a faster UI. I don't know what Moto did to it. Blur maybe? Read Gizmodo's review. I have to mostly agree with it.
Disappointed. I was thinking about getting 2 of these today. Incredible is back-ordered. No word on Fascinate (not sure about Samsung). Guess I'll wait. Hopefully the Desire HD will come to Verizon.
@RockTripod Yes.....no.
So when is the Fascinate coming out on Verizon?
@j3oomerang I read an article yesterday saying that Verizon is not going to launch until very late summer or fall. I'll try and find ya the article brb.
@angermeans http://androidandme.com/2010/07/news/samsung-fascinate-still-coming-to-verizon-but-not-for-awhile/
@angermeans
Well that sux. If it's gonna take that long, it better have FroYo on it.
iam waiting for the international version " Galaxy S " :)
@xdeiri what do you mean "waiting"? It has been out for a while...
@firethorn
tmobile version is definetly the closest you will ever get to the international version, so in other words it looks the best! At least IMO
@xdeiri You can buy unlocked one on Amazon. It's $650.
I want a review!
@LOLCATZ
Just look arround for galaxy S reviews... they are almost the same.
I have the Galaxy S. And it's great. The screen is mindblowing!
Hummingbird does fly like an eagle! And you can play almost ANY codec.. Not like the Icrap 4 phone...
DivX/VidX and many more!! with DNLA output etc..Best GPU on the market..
Actually specwise it's the best phone.. and with android on it. It is LOVLY.
If the GPS is the same as in the Galaxy S, they may very well delete it from the specs of the phone. Worst GPS in a mobile phone ever.
When will the Epic 4G be available?
The Vibrant has been on sale at T-Mobile.com for the past few hours.

Remember when we used to get excited about phones just for having touch-screens?
@wemustcontrolpeople Now we get excited when they can make phone calls!
@Spik3balloon
LOL NICE! uprank for you
@Spik3balloon We have indeed come "full circle" haven't we?
@wemustcontrolpeople Indeed we have.
Seeing this just makes me want more details on the Vibrant version that was announced for Bell. Bah.
pass.....TMO is getting something even better this fall.
@olypdd I'm waiting for that super phone by htc running froyo as well... Qwerty keyboard as well
@olypdd
What's this new devilry? I thought this WAS the T-mo phone we have been waiting for.
@olypdd my g1 is feeling old. Lots of keys stick badly have to mash them 3 or 4 times to get certain letters out. I think I want my next phone to not have a keyboard. I'm really tempted to get a vibrant, but I know there will be better phones coming.
@tad604 My G1 has been feeling old and slow too. That's why I upgraded to a Vibrant today. Still a couple months left on my original contract, but with the applicable credit the vibrant came out to only $165. Not bad for the fastest AND thinnest android phone currently available.
And before anybody even questions the "fastest" label, it is. The snapdragon, while fast, is a single-core chip based on the much older and less efficient ARM11 architecture. The hummingbird is dual core and based on the cortex A8, which is more powerful clock-for-clock. The hummingbird also has a SGX540 GPU, which is several steps above the ancient AMD GPU core in the snapdragon. See here if you don't believe me: http://theunlockr.com/2010/07/07/hummingbird-processor-vs-snapdragon-processor/
@Bhima I guess the HTC Vision, and some other new devices are coming later this year with HSPA capability, dual core, etc. I figure why upgrade to this when something really special is just on the horizon. Vibrants seems to be a great device, but when you already have an N1 with Froyo, it's not hard to wait.
@Chip here's the link to the roadmap- http://www.tmonews.com/2010/07/is-this-a-real-leaked-t-mobile-roadmap/
and to the HTC Vanguard or VISION- http://www.androidguys.com/2010/07/10/tmos-htc-vision-htc-vanguard-21-mbps-hspa-smartphone/
If a HSPA device is coming soon, with QWERTY, dual core, etc, I say it's worth it to wait.
I've just realised we haven't had a proper review of the (original) Galaxy S. Just a 'preview'.
Engadget - is there one coming?
@Karnak agreed, would like to see Engadget's take on it as well. I suppose it must have drowned in the deluge of US market "Galaxy S series" phones or something.
