Xbox 360 getting dashboard revision this November?
Let's face it, the New Xbox Experience isn't exactly "new" any more, but it looks like Microsoft may be getting close to another complete revision. If a set of purportedly authentic images that surfaced on Logic Sunrise (and have since been pulled at Microsoft's request) are any indication, it appears that the Xbox 360 dashboard will be tweaked to match the appearance of the new Family Center component that Microsoft recently announced (and is set to launch in November). Those changes include a new horizontal menu system instead of the current slanted design, and some other more minor tweaks like smaller text for the menu options. The image above may well not be the final dashboard, however, considering that some of the other leaked images made reference to Natal instead of Kinect, suggesting that they're from an older build.

@eam122 What does FTW mean?
@timotim
Means Google
I really hope that Microsoft doesn't change anything. I LOVE the current interface. This UI update is just an ugly version of the current one. Hopefully it's not going to be required.
Anything having to do with th Xbox that's major is released in November. From the first Xbox, to Xbox LIVE, to the 360, to Streaming Movies, and the list goes on and on. All in November. So a new Improved Dash update then would also make sense.
It looks like absolute trash. And if they do set it like this, it's gonna piss off alot of people that bought themes, myself included. I hope they give us an option where if you don't have Family Center, you can keep the old NXE. While the old sucks too & I prefer the blades, I know those aren't gonna come back. Thing I wish for the most though, default to My Xbox. I don't even care if I can't customize the channels.
@Bedlight Wait a minute... People pay to change the theme on the menus on their XBox?
Excuse me while I order some colored filters and register microwaveovendisplaymodkit.com
@dingus Yes. Apparently it's extremely popular. Just like buying stuff for your avatar.
@Bedlight Woohoo! I'ma be rich!
The current UI is amazing. I don't mind the lag because it's not that serious. I can't wait until they release ESPN, HULU, etc on the XB. Hands down the best online experience out of any console.
Anyone save the images before they were pulled?
How is this new when it was showcased at E3 when they were demonstrating it?... they said it was part of the Kinect launch I believe.
I like how microsoft sent a Cease and decist to the source for this article but its still up: http://www.logic-sunrise.com/news-115010-de-nouvelles-images-du-futur-dashboard-360.html
I hate the xbox UI currently.
cool, a (semi) UI overhaul. However this doesn't change the fact that you can't play multi-player games online without paying more for the internet you already pay for.... I know this is an old argument, but still..
If you were paying attention a month ago at E3 you would have known this already. They're just metro-ing it up a bit to match the zune/wp7 look. It's not that big a deal, although I do like it a bit more
Wish they'd remove the cartoony avatars. Not everyone who plays video games is a 12 year old girl
Hopefully from now on when I turn on my Xbox, the first thing I'll see is the option for "Play Game" and the list of options for all sorts of gaming related things, rather than them shoving fucking advertisements down my throat for shit I don't wanna own even though I pay $50 a god damn year for Xbox Live Gold.
Just saying. The NXE is terrible, and it always has been. The only two improvements they added was making the Guide Button essentially an updated version of the old Dashboard's "blades", and adding Party Chat. That's it. Everything else has been a HUGE step backwards, making them look even more dated then the PS3's XMB then they already did.
Mmm...remember that Simpson's episode where they gave Malibu Stacey a new hat? Yeah....like that
It keeps looking more and more like Windows Media Center.
This is NOT a good thing :(
I hope they do not change it that much b/c I and everyone I know, love the current design
It is easy to use, fun to look at, and stuck in my head
The last "update" made the UI worse (not that it was particularly good before). Mostly ads and useless graphical eye-candy, and harder to find the stuff you really wanted. I wonder what they'll inflict on us this time.
I'd much prefer a clear, well-organized, simple interface, like on the PS3.
About the only thing on the XBox 360 UI that I really do like is the Netflix interface. I wonder if that was designed by Microsoft or Netflix?
I hate the newer UI on 360. A lot. Its just confusing and ugly to me. I want the old UI back.
Have an Xbox 360, but I really wish the Xbox dashboard was as beautiful as PS3's. I want them to utilize my 50 inch plasma!
Im all for MS updating the Xbox BUT you have to be careful when messing with gamers and UI changes.
I will put this in the most simple way possible. Sony kicks Microsofts ass, plain and simple, PS3 kicks the 360's ass, again plain and VERY simple, and last but not least, XMB kicks the Dashboards ass!! Is everyone happy now :)
I hate the current interface, but not the look of it. What I hate is that it does a terrible job of organizing your downloaded games. I forget I have some games because they aren't easily accessible if you haven't played them recently and there's no way for me to organize them however I want, like I can do on the Wii. I wish we had something like what the Wii has. As it stands then tend to get buried either among the ton of demos I've downloaded, or if you choose to only list "full games", they're still buried because it shows all your optical-disc games as well!! It's pretty ridiculous.
This looks ridiculously fake.
I don't think your gamertag can even be that long, lol.
When they announced that ESPN3 was being added in November it seemed pretty automatic that an update to the dashboard would happen at the same time. Same with netflix instant stream search coming in November.
looks like someone will getting sued for this one.....aaahhheeem
MICROSOFT
this very style of UI
is on psp,ps3 and Sony TVs as the menu
i thought we were getting this update on monday
