AT&T execs get a better Captivate unboxing experience than you do

[Thanks, anonymous tipster]

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
So that's where all the money went that was supposed to go toward network infrastructure.
@InspectorEngadget
Hey, Devil's Advocate here. Atleast they aren't crippling this phone as much as they did the Aero or the BackFail.
@InspectorEngadget Perhaps Samsung sprang for the nicer packaging, no?
@kickerbockeragua
Devil's Advocate, meaning that I think that they SHOULD put more money for a better network than crippling their phones.
@InspectorEngadget
Nah, it went into their $10 million holiday bonus.
@kickerbockeragua Dont hold the Captivate box wrong or else your service on the phone and everything inside it will disappear
@InspectorEngadget
it went to paying for another carries service since he used an evo for the pics.
@InspectorEngadget
lol, right. Or we can laugh at the fact that they got all excited over Android devices that AT&T won't let them sideload apps on (last time i checked), lol, what a waste of a perfectly good phone.
@Nanosman1994 That was the first "don't hold it like that" joke I didn't laugh at.
@InspectorEngadget
No, sir, that was the money that was supposed to go to a sturdy design...
@InspectorEngadget
Nah... it all went to this dude's granite counter top.
This just lets you know that cell phones are seen as status symbols and not much more
@EPA2000
Sorry what? Please read the article again.
@tobsmonster2
looks like you're missing something. A package like that is only offered to higher-ups, right? Treating a object like that (a phone, of all things) means that they're attaching a higher status to it, for higher-ups
@EPA2000
And that tells me phones are nothing more than status symbols how?
@tobsmonster2
because folks attach their egos to them, in the hopes that the more expensive (or "better") a phone is, the better they feel about themselves
and the pic above doesn't give you some indication as to the status of whom it's for? A piece of plastic enclosed in crystal with engravings? Really?
@EPA2000 omg it has RCA video out! awesome!
A pouch AND a bluetooth free? Thats a pretty good deal. All the more reason to avoid the iPhone 4
@sharukh007
Well, as the article says, these packages aren't available to us unwashed masses...just AT&T brass.
@sharukh007 i don't think you get the pouch of the free bluetooth unless youre an exec...
@sharukh007 and my comment fails. i guess i should have read the article first, huh.
@sharukh007
Good job reading the article.
Reading the title would've been good enough.
@einhanderkiller i just woke up and. i thought it meant that their unboxing was of the final product, not the product that we have seen in other videos.
@jellotime91 Good job reading the comment before yours
This is an aside, but will Engadget do a review of the Captivate with the finalized *production* hardware/software?
@treef rt We certainly will!
@Chris Ziegler Excellent! I'd assumed as much, but I'm glad to know definitively. Will this likely be after the launch on Sunday?
@treef rt Most likely, but we'll see. Needless to say it'll be up ASAP.
@Chris Ziegler
now that the vibrant has comebout, I'll be looking to see that review as well and how the two compare.
@Chris Ziegler
vibrant and capacitive review side by side please
one super review :D
@Chris Ziegler Good. Ive been seeing/hearing that the TouchWiz slows down the performance of the Captivate and I would like to know form Engadget's extensive reviews if this is in fact true, or perhaps the final version is speedy.
@treef rt
Atleast you people won't feel any bugs like we did... Like the terrible stall bug in Europe's galaxy S.
Pre-official firmware already solved that :) It's lightning fast!!
@Chris Ziegler
Could you guys also do a side by side compare of the Dell Streak and the Captivate? Which one do I buy?
A better unboxing experience? I consider it a good one when i don't need a chainsaw or a blowtorch to open the thing.
the box costs more than the phone.
A Box with hinges! Those lucky Son's of Bitches!
@Andrew M Do you really think the guy with the $6000 suit is going to open a plain cardboard box?? C'MON!
/gob bluth
@Andrew M
Why did you capitalize box, sons and bitches?
@Andrew M
This is not so great compared to the Nokia N900's Hacker Box with USB for password entry and smoke for epicness.
AT&T Exec has a Droid Incredible?
@jj1814
Maybe they need to make phone calls!
@jj1814
at second look, it looks like it's actually an Evo. But still! LoL
@jj1814 Yeah I thought either Evo or Incredible...That's funny considering a company who's flagship phone is the iPhone. Maybe he was interested in having something that wasn't already behind the curve on it's release.
@mrrossicoe
or he wants to be able to reliably make calls all over the US
They're still on the same network though, so nobody wins.
Yeah well it's still a Samsung
Still don't understand why the filthy rich get free stuff. As if they can't get buy it on their own. Smh
More companies should do this and release the to consumers. I'd love to buy a phone with stands, cases, travel chargers included at a slightly cheaper price than buying them individually. Like the bundles you get with PSP's etc.
@tobsmonster2
In all honesty, you'll be paying a premium for such packages, unless the accessories are generic third-party items.
Also, it's rare that somebody uses all that stuff. I'd be one of those. I'd rather just purchase exactly what I need.
