iPhone 4 coming to Canada and 16 other countries July 30th
Not much of a surprise here, but Apple has now finally revised its previous "by the end of July" iPhone 4 launch timeframe for some of the remaining international countries to a specific date: July 30th. That includes Canada, a whole host of European countries, plus Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. Absent from that list, however, is South Korea, which had been among the "end of July" group, but has apparently been pushed back to an unspecified date due to a delay in receiving government approval.

Finally!
@Iceman
I won't buy it.
Why?
Apple trashed the competitors in their propaganda scheme to make users believe 'all phones have this antenna issue'
Therefore, I will prove to my group of friends that I can make calls with my new android phone.
Sweet.
@Revolutionary
It's official, Jobs hates Korea. He makes a couple nice stabs at them in this conference.
@Iceman
Does Engadget make a post on anything Apple announces?
@Iceman
It's about time, I still can't believe we didn't get it in June!
@Revolutionary Let me know when you can copy/paste from an email you're reading using the Android exchange/imap mail client.
@the real deal
They made a post about it because there are, as hard as it is to believe, who live in places outside the US, & (*gasp*) some of these people are interested in buying an iPhone.
@Revolutionary Too bad your phone choices are based on spite.
@Iceman
Who cares
No bumper for you.
iLOVE our users?
iLIE to our users?
HAHA.
@yauchildchew
iLove, iLie..... therefore iWin
It's embarrassing it took that long to get it to Canada.
@LightShow Maybe the same people that were in charge of their reception algorithm were also in charge of their logistics.
@LightShow Canada Sucks!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFs5l9K--7M
@RyogaVee
Nope, it sure doesn't. It's one of the best countries in the world.
@LightShow
Most new phones take 6 months or more to be adpoted by carriers in Canada. This is actually fast.
Yeah it was a little slow eyy?
Jeez, so in The Netherlands the iPhone 4 arrives earlier than the iPad? Come on, Apple, with your secretive, unpredictable release date info.
Ack! iPhone article spam!
Wasn't this covered in the live blog article? Do we really need a separate article for each slide? How about just one nice overview article when the whole thing is done... which is something you will do anyway, won't you editors of Engadget?
@Anatidae This is done for SEO purposes obviously. Kind of standard on the internet.
Does anyone else find it annoying to see a new article on Engadget for every single talking point Steve has in his keynote?
@gittenlucky
It's weird... is this being done as a statement of intent or something?
@MrJimlad
they should just change their name to iengadget and have done with it, last person out please switch the lights off.
@gittenlucky Yeah, It's days like this that I get pissed off at Engadget or should I say Engapple
What does Jobs have against South Korea? Mentioned them twice this morning. Maybe he's mad at Samsung.
@Son Goku
Or maybe Samsung/LG tell Apple not to market the iPhone 4 until they can deliver their own phones with retina display on their own home market? I mean LG/Samsung make components for Apple.
Hear me Apple! I will not buy another iPhone until it supports the AWS UMTS band.
@longcat
Good luck. Nobody else in the world uses the AWS band. There are more countries using 850 band 3G in the world, and the world market is much larger than T-Mobile USA customers.
@pika2000 FYI, T-mobile US is not the only provider with an UMTS network on the AWS band. WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, Videotron in Canada also use it. The Nokia N8 supports AWS along with ATT's bands, and other worldwide bands. So you say I should get an N8 then? No thanks, but I hope this sets a precedent for new phones...
No free cases for you! You have been warned. Apple will gladly sell you one though, why shouldn't they profit from their own mistake...maybe the antenna issue was planned so they could sell more bumpers?
faulty phones coming to a town near u!!!!!
South Korea not getting now because apple is building a CDMA iPhone 4.
Besides this, Jobs mentioned the "Korean company" in other question as well. Well, I hope LG and Samsung jack up the prices for their parts that make half of the iphone 4 so that Mr. JOBS wouldn't say such things anymore.
Now that it will be available in Canada July 30th, I will test this phone myself and see what others are talking about and experiencing. Right now my 3GS is working fine.
@Shlooky As far as my own area goes (vancouver/surrey area in BC) the rogers network seems to be better than AT&T from what I've heard, and since it is claimed that the iphone 4 only has antenna problems in areas with bad signal, it shouldn't be a problem here.
@satbir
You're probably right, here in Toronto I am on Bell which is way better than AT&T. So we'll see.
I'm pleased for the people in these countries who will now be able to purchase the iPhone but I hope Apple has enough stock to supply to the existing countries as well. I have several friends who have been on waiting lists at Apple stores (in the UK) since launch day and still have not received their phone.
Awesome, I probably won't even be able to get one in east TN by then. I've been on the waiting list at our Apple store for weeks.
WOO! iPhone 4 for Ireland!!! :D
@Kavala
hahahahah , oh well it could be worse there could be an apple store here.
I hope Steve doesn't have anything against south Korea, considering hat LG makes apple's "own" retina display and samsung makes apple's 'exclusive' A4 chip
@canteaus
Have you seen iTunes store lately? K-Pop music everywhere. Try looking for K-Pop on any other music services (Amazon, Zune, etc). That tells me Apple loves S. Korea, and they do want to enter that market. The issue is probably related to regulations/politics, or simply supply chain (think about it, if you're LG, do you want the iPhone 4 to compete in your home market before you can release your own phone with retina display?).
The thing is .. pretty much ALL iPhones in those markets will be unlocked .. now it remains to see how deep the price gouge will be.
In the UK the difference doesn't seem too bad.
@goseki
Yeah, that's the sad part. Canadians are sure to make quite a profit, delivering unlocked iPhones across the border.
My friend in Norway will love this! oh wait....he likes Nokia...
Is it just me or is that calender the HTC calender? A press conference to give away free bumpers oh the arrogance.... lmao
@Tekka
What did HTC do for people that have Evos with screen defect?
You can return the iPhone for a full refund. What else do you want Apple to do? The only arrogance are people that for whatever reason feel they are entitled to something, even if they don't have the freaking phone.
I'm sick of all the complaining about Apple's product, yes they should of informed the consumer with a sticker on the phone about the antenna issue or included a bumper in the box, but seriously just buy a goddam case, who doesn't anyway?? This will protect your phone and fix the issue. Absolute sooks!!
@zeyphr
it only prolongs the antenna fix since it's a hardware problem they have to cover it up
so rubber covers antenna but not he whole phone so if you drop it then.....SMASH
oh well i love my N900 on WINDmobile
