Xbox 360 sales increase 88 percent in June, give it US console crown for the month
Proving once again that in this world it's more important what you look like than what you do, the Xbox 360 has cruised to the title of best-selling console in June on the back of a sexy physical redesign. The latest numbers from NPD show that Microsoft shifted 451,700 units in the US, which ousts the Wii's tally of 422,500 and comfortably dwarfs the PS3's 304,800. Still, if Sony wants any consolation it need only look back to the results of its own console Slimmification last year -- US sales were said to have tripled in the immediate aftermath of the new SKU's release. So Microsoft might have a little bit of catching up to do yet, and let's not forget that the king of all hardware sales remains the DS, which somehow managed to sell more than half a million devices in June, in spite of the whole world and its dog already owning one.

Cool, Now where is my arcade version?
@Cainhunpi I got the old arcade in June for $100 at walmart, couldn't pass it up. The only thing the new one has is its an inch or so shorter (I wouldn't consider that "slim") and its a little quieter. I don't notice any noise from mine though, my pc is still louder, and the xbox is loudest while playing games... just turn up the volume if it bothers you.
@ssgadget
PS3 >>> XBox
it's sad that a lot of sales are coming form people who already have a 360 but want a better looking one!
@trolling You mean like me? Good looking was only like 2% of the reason. I had a 20gb hdd and had to delete something every time new dlc came out, not to mention it sounded like a jet and I didn't have room to install the games to the hdd for reasons mentioned! Plus it was no longer under warranty and I was scared it was gonna die soon. I don't expect another generation of consoles until 2015, and I sure as hell wasn't gonna be stuck with 20gb and 100db for another 5 years...
@engadgetcomexcludeengadget
You could have bought a bigger hard drive.
@engadgetcomexcludeengadget ye can't u buy bigger ones like a 500gb one or summin. fair enough about the noise can't hear my ps3 ever its amazing!
@trolling I can't hear mine either, might be cause it sits there collecting dust due to the fact the online gaming community stinks and forces me to play my xbox. ;-)
@pur A bigger hard drive would only increase the memory. It would still be loud. It would still be without a gurantee. It would not have HDMI. I'll even throw in that it won't have the special Kinect port.
@trolling I personally contributed to 3 units out of the 450,000.....the lack of local split screen mode in new games means everybody in your circle of trust needs a xbox to play with you.
@trolling - I want a better performing one, may get one this Christmas. I have one of the launch gen 360s, no HDMI and a 20 HB harddrive. So this new one with HDMI, built in wireless N, and a 250 GB sounds like quite a deal to me :D
@ssgadget
GIMME KINECT WITH REAL GAMES.
@giriz
Xbox + PS3 > Wii
I think most of the people buying systems are dumping their old ones for a better, newer model. Check out the Gamestop trade-in numbers, that should tell the real story.
Going to be picking one up very soon!
@Revolutionary
You mean PS3 or 360 > Wii
Hey so my dog might own one but we haven't gotten to the rest of the animal kingdom yet.
I want one.... But alas I have no money ;(
@SaMav Everything > Wii
360 a sexy design??..puuulease...it looks like a bad Alienware prototype with bad shiny plastic...
@rambo8
Well, considering the sales, I'd say your wrong...
Besides, Alienware computers look awesome
@rambo8 lol yea. people actually buy alienware, so yes.. it is a sale!
@rambo8
I have all three current systems and it really does look nice. Stop trying to be a dick. MS making a better running system with wifi built in (finally), more usb ports, a direct hook up for Kinect so it doesn't need an A/C source too, smaller design, and giving it a look to match most modern high end A/V home theater components is a welcome change.

Girls>>>>>everything
I'm such a whore :(
@ssgadget
Xbox 360 == PS3 == Wii
@rcarm
Comment fail
@rcarm I agree (with the second comment); the Wii isn't even on par with Dreamcast, let alone the Xbox 360 or PS3...
@rcarm
PC >Consoles.
So long as your wallet is fat enough, I mean.
@Firewave
Depends on the games you are playing. You can build a rig for 500 bucks if you plan on playing games such as Counter Strike, WoW, Starcraft, ect. You only need to high end PC to play the newer graphic intensive games such as Crysis and what not.
@James
Yeah, but how are you going to explain to all your geek friends that your "gaming" computer cant run Crysis.
@Firewave
PC games are usually cheaper than the exact same game on a console.
@Firewave
True...downside is right after you finish upgrading your rig it is already outclassed by something new that has come out :( The love and hate situation of technology.
@VAVA Mk 2
Who cares if something better comes out in six months, if what you have is still many years more advanced than the 360?
The lack of timely updates to the 360 doesn't make it any less old, and a decent system from 2007 blows it out of the water, whether or not faster replacements are available for it as well. Never quite understood that logic personally.
@Ducman69
Its because people want the latest and greatest(which is often very expensive). And if the latest and greatest is replaced every 3 months, then those people are going to go throught components(and dollars) fast.
@Firewave
I don't upgrade every 3 months, that would be a huge waste of money.
But I also don't spend good money on 2005 technology in 2010. If I'm buying something in 2010, I'm going to buy a CURRENT low, midrange, or high end card, not yesterday's technology.
If you have a 360 and don't want to upgrade, I understand completely. But why people would be buying a 360 in July of 2010 just because it has a wrapper and wifi is beyond me.
If people stopped buying 360s, Microsoft would release a real update, I PROMISE you! =)
@ssgadget PC > ALLL
Flame war please.
@Awall
Copper sulfate clearly makes the best looking flame of any other material and anybody that disagrees is just a stupid fanboy.
@Awall
Pfft! Copper Chloride makes awesome blue flames, you Copper sulfate lovers make me sick with your high and mighty rants. Grrrrrrr!!
@ssgadget I will be picking one of these bad boys up after I rrod by xbox last week.. I wish they would have added a blue-ray player so the PS3 fanboys could stfu already...
@ssgadget "Still, if Sony wants any consolation it need only look back to the results of its own console Slimmification last year -- US sales were said to have tripled in the immediate aftermath of the new SKU's release. So Microsoft might have a little bit of catching up to do yet"
misleading language, catching up means you ARE behind.
xbox 360...23.7M,
ps3....14.2
http://www.vgchartz.com/#Americas Totals
internationally xbox is ahead by about 5M
The redesign definitely made me get one - my PS3 YLOD'ing on me played a role too. Best part about buying one now is that there's years worth of exclusives that are now $20 apiece.
I personally think the addition of integrated wifi is what helped a lot of people pull the plug.
and this means what to me? Nothing!
This is news for the investors and upper management.
But good going greedy consumers. You honor your name quite well.
@pspitts Why the hell did you even click on the link and comment on it?
@ssgadget
360+PS3÷Wii√ngage*dreamcast^πcommodore64 ≤ x^porn
sega master system ftw
@appleipad
You mean Game Gear? Lolz
Ps3 is long dead in US territory (from a sales point of view)
I also think a good chunk of the sales could be due to the price drops of the older systems (i.e. arcade hitting $150)
