Verizon told CNET the company had "done everything possible" to ensure adequate supply of the
Droid X, but there's apparently no anticipating the demand for a top-tier smartphone --
like the Droid Incredible before it, the giant 1GHz Motorola handset is already out of stock, both online (today's orders suffer a ten-day delay) and in many brick and mortar stores. Verizon confirmed the shortages in a communique to
Android Central, saying the company was pleased with initial sales, and that though they were "successful at keeping up with early demand" supplies are presently "low or out." Tomorrow's just not going to work out,
our anti-gravitational friend -- can we take a July 27th raincheck?
[Thanks, Haitham]
DROOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIUDDDDDD!
I wish I could get one, but my contract runs out next September.
@Joseph9307
I thought Verizon was dropping all contracts that end in 2010 in order to be eligible for the Droid X when it was released. I remember reading about that earlier. Anyone know if Verizon is still sticking with this policy?
@Joseph9307
That picture really doesnt give it the justification it deserves.
@Joseph9307 Can't be messing around when the Droid 2 comes out. i'm pretty sure they will "do everything possible to ensure stock" when that happens too.
@Joseph9307
yea i'm in the same boat. i have my TP2 until october 2011 i believe. i'm certainly getting something similar to this when my contract is up though. i want something with a 4.3" screen, 1GHz+ processor, a slide out keyboard, and either WinPhone7 or Android. i could probably survive without with keyboard but the other stuff is a must.
@Joseph930
Oh yeah, nobody is going to buy a big phone. Wrong again apple
btw this is the ugliest new phone since nexus one, the grey brick with a trackball
@SoCoolCurt Yeah, I'm not even trying to hold my Touch Pro2 that long. It won't even be worth much on eBay by then. I'm definitely going the Annual Upgrade route on September 14th with whatever is currently available, which likely means I'll get the Droid 2. Unless of course HTC wants to leak some info (directly or indirectly) of a new device coming to Verizon.
@MicrosoftOwns
you do know that the original droid sold over 1.7 million in its first 30 days
name one windows phone that sold that many in 6 months.....
Until Windows phone 7 comes out you need to practice abstinence of bad mouthing another companies product
@DefPoet no i don't. think eFuse. Kthnxbye.
got mine. happiest days of my life
@centizen Remember the Hummer. Status: Done, son!
@centizen
were they wrong? apple sold in three days, what this phone will be lucky to achieve in it's, oh so short, product life.
lmao everytime I get a message...the phone goes "droid!". I shed a tear everytime. magnificent
@MicrosoftOwns Yeah, because everyone and their mom knows what Windows Phone 7 Series is.
@centizen Only those with small penises who want to compensate get big phones hahaha jk
@beast101
your a idiot
the original droid sold more in its first 30 days than the iphone 3gs did in its first thirty this phone will sell very well
@brrip
ahhh you have another alias
@MicrosoftOwns
So name me 5 Windows Mobile phones currently on sale at US carriers BESIDES HD2. ...yea....thought so.
@Joseph9307
Dear HTC, Apple and Motorola, please make more of your phones available available at launch date so your consumers can F***ING buy them!!!!
@DefPoet i do? not that i know of. and i actually quite like this phone, but that efuse really pisses me off. till someone finds a workaround to this, i (r)efuse to buy this
@MicrosoftOwns You're really not helping your cause.
But you probably already knew that.
Currently commenting from my new Droid X. I've already had to recharge once; the battery goes fast. The virtual keyboard is sometimes slow and not as gramatically accurate as my former MyTouch 3G. The camera takes beautiful pictures and the panoramic stitch option is quite nice. Although this version of "Moto Blur" is nice, i hope the talk of 2.2 by August is true, because in one day I've noticed enough kinks to make me miss 1.6. If the Verizon retail store is out, try a Wal Mart, I stumbled upon mine there.
Tip: if you haven't ever had a virtual keyboard before, don't let this be your first phone until the update arrives, it'll set a precedent that all virtuals are bad which is not true. I rarely had trouble with my keyboard on the MyTouch.
Good luck!
@centizen
Anyone know how many Droid Xs have been sold?
@MicrosoftOwns
AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!! Oh wow, what makes me laugh the hardest is he said no one knows what the Droid X is except virgin nerds ahahah oh wow, well I know what it is and Im not a nerd or a virgin in that matter, BUT i bet your that kid in highschool that sits by himself in lunch and goes home and plays WOW, then at night jerks it while thinking, man im so cool calling fanboys virgin nerds. Hey loser, go away no one wants you
@Joseph9307 Let's all put things into a positive perspective. Now reception is something that all cell phone companies will think about...so it's all good. Ah, science.
@centizen
If only they had more instock for everyone.
@cdf74dc9
If only it were a GSM phone.
It's amazing how these bitter apple fanboys still bring up the topic of Apple and the iPhone, despite no mention of those words in the article and in the first few comments. Truly, you morons have sunken to a new low, just like the company you so blindly worship.
Go ahead and accept the remedy Apple plans for the iPhone 4. I'd love to go on and debate with you but I have to make a call, without thinking of which hand should I use. :P
@DefPoet
Your the idiot, get ur head out of ur ass! Wikipedia facts, an estimated of 1.05 million Droids were sold in first 74 days of launch and the iphone 3GS sold 1.6 million in the first week. So who's the stupid ass.
@VAVA Mk 2
HTC Pure
HTC Tlilt 2

Might want to research next time before you badmouth someone
@JonnyB Spoken like a true Nergin...
@beast101 Really? That's actually pretty sad. I feel badly for you. Might I recommend you connect with breasts for a while?
Yikes.
@blitzkrieg Yeah, don't you think? I mean, go look at any iPhone related post; you won't see any Android fanboys blasting away the iPhone and saying how superior their _insert Android phone_ is. Really pathetic, Apple fanboys!
@DefPoet
Why wait? If you need a phone, get one now if you can afford it. Phones were and will always be throw away commodities. We are talking about a device that makes phone calls/messages. A windows 7 phone will pretty much do 99.9% of a Android, PalmOS, or iOS device. I mean a Win7 phone is no big deal, it will make a phone call just like a Droid...it's just a [expensive] device that makes a phone call. A simple phone call mind that!
Then again, some other devices have trouble making a phone call... Oh snap.
@recharged95
smartphones do alot more than make phone calls in fact calling is a after thought on most smartphones now Hell even blackberry corporate people would rather just email a response than call it in. I'll post statics if you want but they appeared on every major blog and news site within the last month
@blitzkrieg The first Apple mention was from a Droid fan but you probably chose to ignore that. Both sides are pretty pathetic.
@DefPoet Motorola sold just over 1 million original Droids in the first 74 days, the 3Gs sold 1million in its opening weekend. Not even close. You may be thinking of the original 2g iPhone from2007.
http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/03/17/day-74-iphone-droid-nexus-one/
@galac People keep forgetting that Android (the OS) is on a lot of smartphones...so when they sell a million here...a couple hundred thousand there... another thousand... it adds up... so 3 million for one phone... versus all the millions for android... in the end...i think Android is gonna win..even if by mere market saturation
@DefPoet why are people going on about efuse?
its known that pretty much almost all omap processors use it.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/07/15/reality-check-modding-the-droid-x-may-not-lead-to-a-bricked-phone/
@brrip efuse is on all omap processors, its just that this ones tied to the bootloader. efuse i do beleive is what also keeps the milestone from being hacked. etc , etc.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/07/15/reality-check-modding-the-droid-x-may-not-lead-to-a-bricked-phone/
@DefPoet
I don't even know why I'm bothering to reply to this statement but here goes. It took the Motorola Droid 74 days to clear one million sales. The iPhone 3GS cleared this amount in just it's first weekend. However, the Motorola Droid did sell more phones in the first 74 days than the 1st generation iPhone (1 million iPhones to 1.05 million Droids). The iPhone 3GS outsold the Motorola Droid by a landslide, though.
@RawheaD Really?! because it seems like you were the first one to bring up iPhone. No comment before you has. So much for insecurity. And very classy calling other losers. You go girl.
@uckApple Unfortunately, that's what happens when you read an Apple blog...
@JojoMojo
Sigh. There really is just no reasoning with full on fanboys on either side of the equation. On one side you have people blindly parroting whatever steve jobs says as if that's somehow completely irrefutable fact, and looking down their noses at anyone who don't lavish ridiculously jubilant praises and agree with them on their chosen platform. On the other side you have people pretty much proclaiming that android is the One True Platform, and looking down their noses at anyone who doesn't take up the banner and sing praises to their chosen platform.
Both platforms are good and neither one is for everyone.
I like the resolution of the screen, many of the apps, and the music player on the iphone, and I like the wide selection of devices/carriers, the ability to side-load apps not on the market, and the ability to customize the device on android.
Had a blackberry and loved it, now have an htc android and an ipod touch and love them both. To each their own.oning with full on fanboys on either side of the equation. @JojoMojo Yeah, really, JojoMojo, cuz if you actually bothered to read the fucking thread before your kneejerk reaction, you would've seen that I was responding to a post that complained about people mentioning the iPhone, and above that post there were a couple people, both Apple and Android fanboys mentioning the iPhone––the very first one being on the Android side. Sooo, nice try, maybe next time. Don't worry, your time will come.
@DefPoet
No way! With all the hoopla over the iPhone antenna issue you'd think all smartphones did is make calls.
@connorjrocks
Welcome to Andorid. If you're not satisfied with the keyboard, download another one.
@connorjrocks you don't own this phone. Battery lasts well over a day. Once you said it makes you miss 1.6 gave you away troll.
Oh. And the keyboard is the best on screen for any android.
Troll.
@bob1000 All windows phones suck. All they do is crash all the damn time
